It's hard to give advice for an 8 weight rod to use for smaller creeks and little trout. Any eight weight will cast far enough and have power to fight small trout. Dry fly presentation will be tough! If you're looking just to match a reel you already have, you'll need to give more details on budget and what you might want to use it for in the future (e.g., pike, salt, steel, big bullies?). Otherwise just go grab whatever Sage is in your budget and balances the reel (or looks pretty). Or if you've a limited budget, pick up a TFO beater. That 8010 is a big reel even for an 8 wt. Cheers!

I've used regular sheet metal screws. They work fine but do wear out after time. I keep a box of screws and a battery-powered screwdriver in my wading bag. The slot-head ones add extra grip!

I've heard of them in Dogpound. Pretty sure I saw a dead one on the bank one day when I crossed it lower down. This was a couple years ago.

I don't understand Loewen's comment regarding, "removing barriers to accessing Albertas fishing spots". Nothing about access is mentioned in the Plan. I wonder if this comment is directed to fishing spots that need to be accessed on foot. I thought there would be explanation in the Plan but didn't see it.

I agree with Brent. The Approval to conduct instream works likely comes with conditions to meet water quality parameters. Contractors and engineers (as a culture) need to know there are people who take this seriously and need to in turn take it seriously themselves. If you see a visible increase in turbidity report it to the AEP Spill Line / Environmental Hotline. Brent posted the number twice. If you don't have the number handy just google it. I caught a sock full of rocks at Policeman's a few weeks ago. I assume someone forgot their pontoon boat anchor and tried to improvise. Either that or a murder weapon.

Thanks a lot, guys. I think I'll pick up a couple of the Scottys. I have a couple of the rod holders and also the clamp-on attachments so I haven't had to drill holes. They'll probably work for the anchors too until I decide to permanently install them. Any tips/videos for installing these? Just get the drill out and go for it?

Hi All, Does anyone have any links to show what to use and how to install a double (bow and stern) anchor system for a stillwater setup? I have an old 12 foot aluminum that I use for fly fishing small lakes and am looking to set it up a bit better. Thanks for any links or recommendations. Cheers! C

There's a Sage VXP listed in the Trading Post section. They're a very nice mid-range rod.

Don't really use one except for saltwater either. But those fishpond ones pack up small and are pretty decent.

That gravel bar is trying to recover. Sure, there are weeds there but there are also other grasses, sedges, willows, and little poplars trying to make a go of it. Rivers/gravel bars move around, erode, deposit, revegetate continuously. Bcube's right. There is serious compaction from the vehicles. And nevermind whether it's worth the big stink being made, it is illegal to drive up and down that bar. We know trucks have been taking rips out into the river too. Riprap under the bridge would be a good idea. Could be anchored in. You'd think a nice big sign would do the trick but some people have selective vision. Hoping for a reasonable solution. Cheers.
