Bump slap. -
I thought this thread was going to be about canning fish! Sorry, couldn't resist...

Holy smokes! I'm sure the photos don't do justice to the colours of those fish. Beautiful!

This is all it says about the incident. ""Cochrane RCMP also continue the investigation into what police have termed a 'hunting accident' in the Waiparous area Friday shortly after noon, RCMP media liaison Const. Kerry Doran said in a news release. According to Cochrane RCMP Const. Gary Fedrau, the victim, a 42-year-old man from Calgary who had been bow hunting west of Forestry Trunk Road 940, approximately 23 kilometres north of Highway 1A, was shot once in the abdomen by a 55-year-old man from Airdrie. After being treated at the scene by Cochrane emergency medical services personnel, Fedrau said, the victim was flown by STARS to Foothills Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remained in stable condition. As of Tuesday, police were still looking into the incident. "I know the investigation isn't finished," Cochrane RCMP Cpl. Roger Waidson said. "The victim still needs to be interviewed."""

A couple years ago a guy was shot in the Waiparous area. Not a great reference but mention of the incident appears here: http://www.airdrieecho.com/ArticleDisplay....mp;archive=true

^ I agree. I would have the guy in the front fishing while the guy in the back steers/controls the canoe. Or just pull over at sweet spots. If you are running out of time you should be able to dig in and cruise.

Those pike hits must have been pretty exciting! Looks like a cool spot. Nice work!

""I see a fish finder purchase somewhere in my future..."" Such a good decision. Even a cheapy is a great tool at least to tell you depth and show structure and temp!
-
Fished a lake last weekend and it was damn slow! Temp was just over 50F so I'm with Mike on cold water theory. A bit confused though as fish were rising pretty good.

If you're thinking of something higher end with a more traditional action. I would second something from Winston. Good luck with the search! Current -

The Art & Lutheries are really nice. Canadian made with a lot of options in your price range. http://www.artandlutherieguitars.com/intro.htm Good luck and have fun! -
Oh, in that case it's a red wire worm. A big one.

Hey flyfishy, Good topic but it would probably attract more attention in the "General fishing discussion" section. Cheers

Hi Guys, I recently purchased a little 12 foot aluminum and old Johnson 9.5 hp outboard ('64-73, I believe.) The motor appears to be in decent clean shape but the previous owner informed me that it has not been run in about 5 years. I am leery of dropping it into a lake and running it without doing some kind of carb cleanup or other maintenance. I have read I should replace the water impeller right away and run some other tests. Unfortunately, I have ZERO experience with this stuff but am eager to learn and excited to have a new project. Of course, I really do want to get it on the water before it freezes! If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. Does anyone know a good source for outboard parts (water impeller/pump kits, carb kits) and/or service in Calgary? or even online d-i-y stuff? Thanks all, Current...

I'd eat that. ... The only comments I can think of would be to try a different underwing material than foam if you are tying in bigger sizes. Sometimes too much foam can make the fly bounce out of the fishes mouth. Also, I like to add a tuft of deer/moose/elk as a tail before I tie the foam body on but this may not suit the pattern you are using. Picture the same material you used for the wing extending out the "ass" of the fly. Nice work overall though. This fly seriously makes me hungry.

That is so awesome. The wood grain couldn't have worked out any better. Nice job.
