  1. Hog caller hopper is very cool, nice tie. Something to try is glue some lead into the rear segments of the abdomen this will make the back end sit low in the water and you would be amazed at how effective a hopper that sits low in the water is. The best is when you balance them to the point that they "bob" under the surface and back up, kind of balanced in the film. This can also be accomplished with a dropper (which is usually the most practical way to go). Very deadly tactic especially on trout that reject a high floating foam.
  2. cant go fishy im camping that week.
  3. If you set something up flyfishy Ill bring a smoked slab of meat. only night that doesn't work for me is Monday nights.
  4. DANG! that is a solid fish! can you teach me please.
  5. I stopped by and casted one as well. The new handle is a great improvement. I cant believe how thin the but section is and it flexes down to the handle, very cool. The thing I like best about it is it loads proper to the amount of line I had and then with the proper load I could get the power to shoot a bunch more line. This stick is going to be an arm saver. I find a lot of rods have a hard time finding this balance. However the true test is going to be practical use. Once I've got one set up and had it out on the river ill update.
  6. Poachers, wormin rippin lips. trips to the trunk another in hidden cooler back to the river takem to the trunk limit + limit +limit +limit = No more toads.
  7. I'll go pick up a TFO Impact and give it a try. I'll post what I think. I Generally like TFO I don't spend the $$ on a TFO that I do on a Hardy Zenith so I don't have the same expectations. It is interesting to see where a guy is getting the most bang for his buck. I think TFO did a great job with the BVK and I didn't see the quality issues with the BVK that bcube is mentioning that you do see on their lower series rods. The fact is if you get a rod from them that is misaligned or has any other type of defect its really not a valid point for the fact that a quick trip to their shop and they will take care of it. They REALLY stand behind their product. Now in the end for me its all about how does it cast. I'll let you know.
  8. Well in one week it all opens up and if you put faith in the extended forecast it looks like it might be half decent weather. I cant wait to visit my sacred waters to awaken old friends. I have the day booked off and made my co-workers aware that I may be MIA on Wednesday as well depending on how things go. Its going to be hard to focus on work this coming week. Anyone else have plans to disappear from work on Tuesday?
  9. OH MAN! That would have been sweet justice if they bumped flows over night and the boat drifted off.
  10. eagle did you have your jet boat with you? Do you think they were being assholes or just showing off and ignorant to the fact that they are in fact assholes.
  11. I went to police yesterday you would of had about 4 inches of snow on your tent you made the right choice.
  12. Mine is, I plan to row all day
  13. from the article it seems like they know that it is an issue and they are pressing to have a dedicated task force. That would be a great thing. I think it would help organize a lot of responsible ATV groups as well. Ontario has a great community of ATV groups and trails. I think Alberta might get there one day if the laws get a little more support.
  14. Calm down sponsor police. I have no financial interest in the store just letting the community know where to get a deal this weekend.
  15. Just a reminder to everyone Westwinds has a huge inventory blow out this weekend. There will be free BBQ at lunch, Door prizes and grab bags. I think it starts at 9am.
  16. I heard that Westwinds has new owners so i stopped by to check it out yesterday. Its the same shop but they have some new stock. They had a bunch of new pike flies so Im going to stock up for next weekend. They gave me the heads up that they are blowing out all the inventory May 9th weekend before they do a big renovation. I think they said 10% off everything and up to 70% on some stuff. It will be worth checking out and seeing what they do with the place.
  17. Ya the SA GPX has the same issue
  18. I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is looking at fly lines this spring. I got a RIO perception this year and I have to say it is the best line I have ever casted....... ever. I am casting the 6 wt on a hardy zenith. The way it loads and the amount of line I can shoot is just crazy. Because of this I am putting way less work into my cast and experiencing way less arm fatigue. It mends nicer than any line I have ever had and it has 2 tone color that indicates the taper for helping you understand how much line to have out for a proper load. I haven't noticed if it helps my hook up ratio, as that is their big marketing push that the line has no stretch so you are in contact with the fish more..... I haven't noticed any of that. I have just noticed that the line casts like nothing I have ever had the pleasure to cast. Now if I can get it to last for more than one season it will get 5 stars no questions. This line replaced my former favorite the SA GPX the problem with the SA is I was lucky to make it a whole season and it now falls short of the Perception. This all of course is just my opinion I have no deals with Rio I pay full price at local shops just like everyone else.
  19. the levels have come up a bit over the weekend. you should have no issue as it is quite deep off the end of the launch but you will have to push your boat off you might need a second guy with you I don't know how heavy your boat is. I cant push mine off by myself it a bit of a beast. Mackinnons is great right now you could do it by your self, in fact I find its better now with the low water than it is with the higher water there are some nice deep troughs that make it easy to launch. Legacy is not good.
  20. still only one launch by the weir and it still has the flipped slab but its not that hard to avoid it just stay to the right
  21. Funny these same issues come up about WM every time this thread circulates every few months and now from VI's link it seems to be the same on other forums. You would think that WM would do a little product development and reduce costs.
  22. the St Croix imperial is probably my favorite 4 wt that I own and my go to dry fly rod. If you are going to consider the BVK go try one out the 8',6 cast WAY different than the 9'. Something that hasn't been mentioned yet is it is also going to depend on how much line you like to cast. Typically I try to get within 30-20 feet of rising fish. So I am going to find a rod that casts 30 feet of line really nice. The amount of line you have out really plays a huge factor in how the rod casts. If you like to throw long casts to fish then a stiffer rod would be the way to go because you will have enough line out to load it properly. It has been a rare occasion that I have had to throw dry flies over 30 feet......... but I am a sneaky ninja.
  23. That is the best thing I have seen in a while soo funny.
  24. I think this is a troll the guy has 2 post this cant be real. I think Apple is sitting at his computer having a good laugh stirring the pot.
