Bull Trout In The Bow River
troutlover replied to TheBrownWhisperer's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
There are some resident ones below police that i see every year floating by. I haven't seen them this year but they are big ones. -
People want jet boats off the river. Ill trade mine in as soon as they put a couple more launches between police and Mac. As it stands now the only way for me to get a float in after work is to have a boat with power. Drift boat is a far better tool for the Bow however i would never use it with our limited access. I hope access is improved.

Just a reminder to all who own a boat. It is not okay to park on the launch and get ready... Even if you think there is room for another boat to squeeze by and launch, it is still not okay... Even if you just need to "quickly put on your waders" then launch and get out of the way, it is not okay...Even if you are the only boat around. it is not okay... Get ready in the parking lot, then launch. Thanks. I don't usually get so bitchy but its happened 2 mornings in a row now.

River Flows Everywhere Dropping
troutlover replied to troutlover's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I was just going off what the charts were showing and there has been a steady decline at the higher elevations and on undammed rivers and creeks. I guess what you guys are saying is we will see another jump in the flows on undammed waters? I dont count dammed waters because they can blow them out whenever they want. Im talking about flows on uncontroled water do you think there will be another surge of water? or will the decline continue? ........... Bow river flows are down today. As with the stone fly fishing i am not talking about just the dry fly fishing. I consider the whole cycle because for me the pre nymphing is just as awesome as the dry and as soon as she starts to drop and is the color of tea with 2 creams stone fly season for me is ON. -
Looking at all the river flows and it looks like everything is on its way down. If we don't get the massive rains that usually come in June it could be a great opener. Keeping fingers crossed.

Drift Boat Flipped At Policemans
troutlover replied to angelamc's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
If you have never been in the situation it would blow your mind how quickly a sideways boat hung up on the bottom will flip. Please if you are new to rowing and remember one thing it is this. Keep the nose of the boat pointing down stream. A sideways boat will cause problems. Glad everyone is okay. -

If you are thinking of using a jet boat to pull on your boat Im not cool with doing that with my boat so if that's the plan Im out. -

Hi I have an old bamboo rod that is in excellent condition except two small areas where the finish is a bit worn and cracking. Does anybody know someone in Calgary that does repair and clean up on old bamboo rods? Thanks.

Alberta Environment and Parks has a survey up today for feed back on consideration for Pine Coulee to harvest all Walley as they see it as a failed fishery then change it to trout. PLEASE take the survey and then in the comments section of the survey please ask them to make it a quality fishery. As the Calgary area now has zero quality lakes and more than enough harvest lakes. If someone smarter than me can post the link please do. Thank You Jared aka(troutlover the legend himself) <- Monger thats for you.

farawayflyfishing.com has some amazing trips down there. As well as a trip for the worlds only atlantic steelhead run. Pretty easy to do a DIY and flights are really reasonable. Its one of my life goals to spend a winter down there.

I was just thinking that same thing the other day while sneaking up on some Elk with a "primitive weapon" muzzle loader that is accurate at 200 yards.

Advice Sought: Gopro For Fly Fishing
troutlover replied to Sage's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I like the chest view point however i like things about the head strap also but find i use the chest most. I have the equipment for the poles but i never use them. If you have a boat i find it nice to have a few mounts placed throughout the boat and some sticks that fit into rod holders on the boat. I never find the need for a remote. Multiple batteries is nice and lots of memory. Took me a whole season of messing around to figure the thing out however; I'm not the sharpest tack around..... -
ya i had my truck broke into and the morons took sunglasses and change but 100 yards down the street they tossed my $750.00 laser measuring tool. Idiots.

Hardy has a new rod out called the Jet. It is a softer action rod than a lot of these new expensive fast action rods. I think its a great rod but thats me many would hate it because they are not used to slowing down their cast and allowing the tip to load properly. The biggest pro to a slower action rod i find is you dont need to get 30' of line out the tip just to start to get a load.
