Here's my story. A couple of years ago i bought a pontoon from the bargain finder and when i went to pick it up the guy asked me if i tie i said "no it's never really interested me" He said "your nuts, let me show you a couple flys i've tied" so we went down to his basement and he showed me some of his ties which were really great and he then told me it was all for sale. He'd had problems with his knees and could no longer fish and if he couldn't fish anymore then he had no desier to tie hed decided to start with wood working. I thought about it and was ready to turn it down but he made the offer of $200 dollars for it all and id be a moron not to take it. So i said sure thinking who knows maybe one day. As i left i thanked him for the great deal on the pontoon and he said the great deal was the tying stuff as he told me the retail value my jaw dropped and i turned red cuz i was a little embrrased not knowing the real value of what he had given me. I thanked him wanted to offer more money but i was already trying to figure out how to explain to my wife the extra $200 dollars id just spent over the $300 i had to beg for to get the pontoon. (he even revealed to me some of his favorite fishing locations). Well, as i have started to frequent the tying section more and more my intrest is finnaly sparked and i think it's time i made good use of this stuff, so what i am asking is there anyone willing to spend a couple nights with me to get me going so i can figure out what the big deal is and why this guy was determained to provide me with a new hobby that he was obviously very pationate about. Thank-you Jared.

Bull Trout North Of Calgary?
troutlover replied to snakeman's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
No problem we should head there this spring or late fall. I was there in fall taking advantage of the white fish spawn and i imagin the bulls were doing the same i haven't been there in 6 years but i'm sure they'er still there. My buddy who i was with has been back a few times and twice the water was to high and crazy he said the best time is low water conditions so spring or fall . The one time he went and had good water he said it ws really good largest was 36" (so probably 32" knowing him) but the rocks they live in are right on the edge of a killer current so hold on tight and get ready to run if you cant hold them in the slow stuff. -

might list 0 brooks to avoid the mistaken harvesting of bulls? Would they do that? Just a question. EDIT- on a side note i've hiked up to Barnaby (Southfork) lakes and the hike isn't that bad i did it when i was sixteen(the wind blew like hell) it's been a long time but we did catch a few fish on little spinners. I was going to try to head up there this summer if anyone wants to plan a trip and avoid heli costs. -
thats going to be way easier to cast than that rapalla countdown i've been trying to cast
-
airflow sounds kinda like SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHIIIT. Worst line i have ever cast.

Now that you mention carp on the bow i think i know of a spot on the lower bow where ther are carp fry (school of bright orange little fish) Grass carp are next to impossible to catch and are probly the most spooky fish on the planet fish with grass clippings immitations amongst real grass clippings or bread crumb immitations amongst real bread the second tactic is tough seeing as chumming is illegal. If you want great carp fishing there are lots of places in Montana not to far. I've never bone fished but i've heard that carp are a good comparison. In my eexperience it's all sight fishing on the fly. Walk the shores of the lake try to go in twos one up high one on the bank your looking to clouds of silt the carp dig in the bottom with their heads and then eat what they stir up. When you spot a cloud cast into it kneeling down and from a good 40- 50 feet with a red copper John watch your tippit as it strightens out set the hook! and hold the hell on you will not turn a carp till it's done running i challange ANYONE! and be ready for runs into your backing and 2-3 good runs per fish. use a 5-6 weight rod as they are very spooky fish and heavier lines tend to spook them. I'm going to head down this year to montana i'll drop you a pm when i do.

Most Memorable 2007 Fish/trip
troutlover replied to PlayDoh's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
My best times this year had to be late evenings on the bow fishing at 1am with the beavers and the bats. Hearing the cyotes running by and the solitude. It's someting that fulfills me and gives me energy for the week. There is also a intensity that is added because you hear the fish jump and you feel the fish pull but unless you land it you don't SEE the fish. It blows my mind how many times i've had what had to be a 24" fish turn out to be a bad ass 16" rainbow. -
Posting Fishing Locations
troutlover replied to KnotLikely's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
KnotLikely i agree with you, that when you post on this board it is to the masses and i do hope people keep that in mind. Also your right you didn't insinuate Hullswood was a secret spot i read out of context. Something to add to my first post is that it is important to get beginners into fish because that is what keeps your confidence up and people fishing and if i have to give some good spots on already popular water i will. However, i will through a pm and not to the masses (as i hope to respect the space of those on the board who do only make it out for a couple hrs in the city on the weekend). I've had alot of positive experiences with new members on this board taking them out and it's something i hope to do more of next year. -
Posting Fishing Locations

Remind me to ....NEVER!!!......Tell Brent my secret spots on the bow....... in Fish creek park...... that have a THOUSAND pictures posted of them on the board. Dude this one just had to make you laugh a little. Good for you showing someone to a popular spot where you know they'er going to have a good chance at a winter fish. I share the Bow in the city limits quite freely because i know its going to always have alot of people fishing it.(city of 1 000 000 figure it out) There are a hundred great spots with good access, also i'm usually on it from 7pm to 1am and for some reason (i can't figure out why) the river is vacant during these hrs. Yes i have spots that i share with only a few and never on the board (south of the city). I also have a personal policy that I always notify a person who has shared a spot, if i'm going to their spot. But as for the Bow in the city whats there to be all hush about? I don't get it. P.S--POLICE OUTPOST = HUGE FISH -
There are BIG fish in there already my dads friend pulled out a five pounder last week and several 3 to 4 all over 20". All made it back to their home under the ice. I love that lake glad to hear about the new regs. I've been fishing there since i was three and my uncle was the CO there 25 years ago. It's had ups and downs but every trip worth it. Glad the winter harvest is going to end it is a total meat market.
