  1. If they are comfortable with computers though, a cheap Hauppage add in card will allow them to record it themselves.
  2. What is the video source (tape, DVD) or is it already on the computer? Any basic video editing software (or some playback software) should be able to do that.
  3. The Boat and Sportsmens show is where all the lodges are advertising; fortunately this show is focused on fly fishing with tons of presenters and would be well worth the trip if you're looking to try out the latest stuff. Most shops have some older stuff they're just trying to get rid of if you want a deal. The only thing it doesn't have is a practice pool for spey casting.
  4. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...ic=3586&hl= Powered dubbing block I made, very useful for quick leeches/buggers, etc, especially when using a coffee grinder to mix dubbing.
  5. Hopefully the two aren't related and you're ok! I had Wiiitis yesterday from boxing.
  6. Be prepared for anything given the weather could be warm and sunny or a blizzard - if the weather nice there could be some mayfly or caddis hatches, but if the weather is crap or runoff is early, they need to be prepared to use nymphs, leeches, BAW's or streamers. They could also do the Crow or lower Oldman if they're in ok shape. Probably best to wait until the week before they leave to make any concrete plans.
  7. Remember that with road salt, it can rust very quickly, and the temperature has been warm enough for it to melt ice the last couple of days.
  8. Merry xmas doc! Hopefully see ya at some H&H meetings next year.
  9. My lake up in Coventry Hills is filled with storm water runoff...anybody want to go for a swim?
  10. Since I saw the article on speypages (sorry, on a slow connection and I can't find the link), I've had good success welding polyurethane coated lines (not so much with the PVC). With the thicker spey lines I use a smaller diameter PU coated line and melt it all together to form the loop - for the running line end I double the line up, and add a third length in the shrink tube. For my nymphing setup I have a midspey line on the Deer Creek - it's a bit heavy and probably not as sensitive as I need, but works well when you need to get a three nymph rig out. I bought a scandi head for it, but I've only had a couple hours to cast it, and I'm thinking I need to cut it down a tad (or get better at casting it).
  11. You just need to temporarily tie it to your line first.
  12. How the hell are you going to get a bead over Dave's head?
  13. Posts: 1 Trap? Can't be! Who has the can of troll repellent?
  14. I've never had a problem casting heavy rigs with the double spey either, as you can do the same tricks as overhead casting to open up the loop a bit more. For shorter distances, you can also just use the water tension to load the rod and fling them upstream.
  15. Something says '50's Army Style' to me. I had to laugh at the picture, after hearing tales of rods snapping because the angler grabs the rod above the handle (and is high sticking).
  16. The 5wt and up xperience rods are listed as fast instead of medium fast, so it may make a difference, but try em all out sometime (not with that damn wind today, as you'll probably hook on to a passing car!).
  17. I only tried an XPerience in the three weight, and it was too soft for my liking, however the eastfork is a fast action rod meant for distance and bigger flies, with a similar action to the Fli, but I found I could get more distance and shoot farther with the eastfork (testing 10' rods though, 9' may be different).
  18. If anybody has a St Croix 7 wt kicking around, bring it along.
  19. G Loomis Eastfork - I find it cast better for me than the FLi. You can test out many of these rods at fishtales.
  20. You could try overheading with a lighter line, but if you're down at Police Outpost with a strong wind, rollcasting is the way to go.
  21. I have the Deer Creek, and for what I use it for its great - makes a good nymphing rod with the delta spey, and would probably be good for skating dries around, though I didn't get to do too much of that this year. People on the sp board say they do have different types of actions - the DC is probably a bit softer and you may want something a bit faster for scandi work (though others more experienced with that type of casting can make more accurate comments on that). The line I have does ok with intermediate poly sink tips, but if you're looking to do T-8 or 14 type work a heavier rod would work better. All of my testing of rods comes from getting out with the members here and trying out different rods when Gord or Brian and Francois came through, not through the shops.
