  1. I'll be on foot, heading down tomorrow afternoon and staying for breakfast on Sunday.
  2. Yup, got the thunder over by the airport, too. C'mon power failure to get me out of work early!
  3. Warnings City of Calgary 4:31 AM MDT Thursday 8 May 2008 Snowfall warning for City of Calgary issued Heavy snowfall today and tonight. A cold upper low has crossed the continental divide overnight into southern Alberta. Laden with pacific moisture and tapping into cold air, the low has the potential to produce large amounts of snow. Snowfall amounts will vary depending on the amount of snow melting on contact with the ground. In Jasper, Nordegg and Rocky Mountain House snow will continue today with additional snowfall amounts of 10 to 25 are expected before the snow ends this afternoon. For the Banff region, Kananaskis region, Airdrie region and northern Okotoks region rain is changing to snow early this morning. In Calgary and southern Okotoks region rain will change to snow this afternoon. In these regions local snowfall amounts are forecast to reach 10 to 20 centimetres by early Friday morning. This weather pattern will be closely monitored as the upper low develops over southern Alberta. Fortunately, there's no heavy snowfall warning for Cardston, but this should make the drive pretty fun!
  4. Use water tension on the downstream side or behind you to load the rod on shorter casts if you're high sticking or czech nymphing. A double spey cast also works well for longer casts.
  5. Most tying lessons are already done for the year. I know the hook and hackle club has some going and may only be done 2 or 3 nights out of 10, but there may also be some people on here willing to do one on one, but it'll cost more. I started out with the Fly Tying Bible as a guide, and picked up some basic equipment down at fishtales. If they have any leftover kits they sell with their fly tying courses, they will sell it to you so you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get into tying, either.
  6. Was a long day but had fun, met some great people, and got skunked in the draws.
  7. 3 is fine...for a single handed rod But a 6/7 spey or switch would be a lot more versatile for pike, nymphs and streamers on the bow, and some bull trout hunting.
  8. It shows views, not views from unique usernames.
  9. Interesting idea, and would help hold the knot against slipping off on nymph rigs, but hopefully this doesn't end up as a niche product like the robertson screw if he doesn't get it produced.
  10. I'm sure you're cryin after landing that beast. Nice fish!
  11. I hope I found all the leaks in my waders.....
  12. Only a goal a minute for the Sharks. Good to see the reffing hasn't improved from last game, either.
  13. Great story! Sure beats mine about me trying to look cool for all the lady joggers in FCP while sloshing my way back to my car because I forgot to repair the hole in my waders I made last week.
  14. I've got the S2IS. There's macro and super macro modes on it, and a description of how to set them in the user's manual. With macro you can take shots from about 30 cm away, and with super macro you can get pictures of stuff on the lens itself (though I wouldn't recommend letting anything touch the lens).
  15. Happy Birthday! Just curious, what did they have before dirt?
  16. A few different setups are used, depending on what you're fishing (search this forum for setups because there's too many to remember). 12-13.5 foot rods in 5-8 weight are popular. There is an article in the latest Canadian Fly Fisher about spey rodding in Alberta, and is a good read. For shops try Fishtales down south.
  17. Very possible, many people use the poly sinking leaders in intermediate to fast sink rates for different areas on the Bow.
  18. Was a great time today, with alot of people out in the cold, snowy morning, but it did warm up to quite a bearable day near the end. Tons of rods to try out and some good instruction by Courtney had alot of people getting on the water fairly quickly. Even a few of the fish were cooperative, taking some purple streamers and attacking Courtney's pink strike indicator. Some pics: (hopefully many more to come from others):
  19. From 1991, I'm sure they knew about it for a long time and tried to keep it under wraps.
  20. Aside from airport hangars, it's the biggest wind break Lethbridge has.
