  1. I bought one earlier this year. Great rod with a Rio Gold line on it for shooting line and spey casting. Getting used to the composite handle will take a little time.
  2. I've used a 380 grain Tonic line on my 12.5 ft 5/6 Deer Creek, with a 10ft polyleader on the end. It's a tad light, but this was a line for the 7/8 Beulah switch, so it's a good multitasker. It's 22.5 ft, so it shouldn't have problems throwing heavier tips, either.

  4. Rubbing alcohol will cause the leak area to turn dark when you apply it to the inside of the waders.
  5. It's been covered in an old thread - don't buy their product because it's a cheap material that's been marked up by 100's of %. Find someone with a pack from an old TV, or try looking in Micheal's for it.

  7. Thanks guys; in Fort St John right now so the east slopes are a little far but I'm looking to find some grayling near the Peace within the next few days and hitting the Little Smoky on the way back!

  10. A 3 wt would be ideal for the crow or one of the many cutthroat streams nearby, but a 5 wt will cover everything except for the bulls. There's tons of guide reccomendations if you search, but being a weekend many might be booked up already. For shops, Fishtales and Southbow are the closest Calgary shops to High River, and The Crowsnest Angler can help you out with what you need for streams down south.
  11. Speycasting with the 8' 3 wt on small lakes and streams. Dan and Jack were great for learning a different style of casting, continuous movement, and a few new tricks for other styles as well.
  12. You don't necessarily have to take the paint off for MPI (I've got a ticket) but why not build a bamboo pontoon?
  13. For a better idea on aluminum cracks, you might want to try liquid penetrant inspection. It will find the cracks long before they're visible. http://www.ndt-ed.org/EducationResources/C.../commonuses.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dye_penetrant_inspection For a job as small as a pontoon boat, you could probably learn to do it yourself in a couple hours. With steel frames you could also do magnetic particle inspection, but it takes more equipment. I wonder if any manufacturers do NDT or fatigue testing on their frames when they're designing them?
  14. Yes, on a golden stonefly nymph, and naviguid had a small baetis nymph that was working for a bit.
  15. From the pointts website: 2. There are only a few areas on a traffic ticket where a mistake will result in the case being dismissed or quashed and a misspelled name or wrong plate number are not any of them. Pay the fine and quit doing those turns! I have another intersection by my place and can recall at least a dozen times where I've had to nail the brakes to prevent myself from being sideswiped by someone doing an illegal u turn.
  16. Down on the Liv yesterday with naviguid- definitely some subsurface action going on but little action on the dries - maybe an off day because of the rain? Didn't see a stonefly until about 5, and it floated right over a deep pool completely unmolested. There were a few dark brown caddis about, and a hatch of mayflies in the afternoon, but the bigger fish were feeding on the bottom. Took some photos of the insect life I did find. Anybody got an ID for the mayfly? Was dark on top and grey underneath.
  17. I met a spin fisherman there who suggested a dragonfly nymph if they weren't rising, and he was right, they hammered that all night long. Not a fish I go out for too often though, usually just in late spring.
  18. Crow in mid June: Small pond, small brookies: Pretty fish, even when it's out of focus
  19. Police Outpost, sans snow: PO Bows: Lower Lake finally sheds its skin: Fallen Timber: Teck donates another fly to the tree: Pre-runoff on the Red Deer (standing in the middle of the river in June!!)
  20. I was talking about the first pic.
  21. Nice pics, but you forgot to debarb the fly!
