http://southbow.ca/ Unfortunately I'll be chasing grayling that week.

Any shrimp hook, pick your size from 10-4. Red wire about 24 gauge. Beads can add even more density to it, but they're not necessary.

http://environment.alberta.ca/apps/basins/...tionID=RBOWCALG After the delay, we are very close to the average flow this year on the Bow though it is starting to drop off already. The concern should be the RDR and Oldman drainages and if they decide to protect the reservoirs at the cost of fish populations, and I'd expect closures again down south if it does turn out to be too dry, which can be good for the populations. And runoff doesn't get rid of the garbage, it just sends it towards Saskatchewan.

and 4 Darwin Awards averted by the fire department. http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Calgary+...9893/story.html Maybe we should call up the accounting office and tell them how much money could be made from handing out tickets.

I have the Rio Gold WF line and its great both in close and for shooting.
-
The Crow at Burmis was clear today, and the trout were hitting the stonefly nymphs.
-
The Rio Grand is already a half size heavier than the AFTMA standard - try before you buy if you can. I have their selective trout line on my 3, and it's nice for dries and smaller hopper/dropper rigs (no size 6 foam and deer hair stonefly imitations!). But if your old line works, save yourself the money and stretch out the coils.

The fast action of the new rod is probably what you're feeling - you will need to adjust your casting stroke, find a friend with a heavier line or take it to a fly shop to try a higher weight or premium line. The cheaper lines will still have a decent taper and will meet the AFTMA standards, they probably just have cheaper materials (hence the discoloration).
-
Fishtales also carries Cliff's - however they are down low, almost behind the front desk.
-
Fishtales has some kits (materials only) that they use for the flies they tie in their classes - they might have a couple still kicking around. Includes a smaller amount of materials that you'd find in a regular pack, and is enough to get you started. If you're looking for everything individually, buy materials for flies you use alot of and won't mind tying, and when you have the basic skills look at tying things you can't get in shops or are too expensive to really stock up on.

I Challenge All Fishermen To Exercise Your

I'd like to see the 5 fish limit reduced for all ponds in high traffic areas such as Kananaskis, not just a pond here and there. And of course, a trophy lake closer to Calgary would be nice. -
My Favorite Annual Announcement

\o/ Its not a cold spring, its a long warm end to winter. -
If you're using it on the bow a 6 weight is fine - a 8/9 would be a bit of overkill on the Bow if you're not using heavy tips or if you don't plan on finding steelhead or salmon. I use polyleaders with the 5/6 TFO Deer Creek 12.5 foot and a scandi head on the Bow for streamers and it matches up pretty good with an Airflo Delta for a more traditional line. Keep your eyes out for the next Spey gathering if you want to try a few different setups.

Happy b-day! -
Got out with Hawgstoppah on Friday to fish the area before the thundering herd arrived from Calgary. First stop was the Crow; water was freezing, the fishing slow, and the only insects I saw around until a small bwo hatch in the afternoon were a couple black winter stones and some midges. A few fish were hooked on caddis and stonefly nymphs, but Hawg definitely found the pig of the day, a 20" rainbow: Next stop was Lee's Lake, which had some freshly stocked bows taking small pheasant tails below an indicator. After the fishing died there we headed to Beauvais, where the PT (which by the end of the day looked like it had been run across a cheese grater and ground in the dirt) was king again, landing bows, browns, and the odd sucker. But watch your step if you're out there!

Mclean Creek Getting Better?
cheeler replied to Xplorer's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Many will just shift around to different areas or drive farther to be left alone - its a widespread problem that requires a widespread solution. Driving back from the Crow on Friday I did see at least a half dozen cops around giving tickets out amongst the long convoy from Calgary, so hopefully that will send a message. -
If you want whitefish, head up the FTR and grab em where legal. Stay away from the pothole trout in prairie lakes in summer - they tend to take on a muddy taste. It's good we have a world class waste treatment plant, but the Bow also takes the sewer runoff and all types of garbage thrown in on the way. Rainbow trout with a side of needles and condoms?

Reporting F&w Employee Behavior?
cheeler replied to reevesr1's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
One of them mentioned that his job for the past year was to collect samples of all fish species in Alberta using a variety of methods - apparently to be used for educational purposes when the hatchery opens up to the public again. I don't have a problem with taking a fish for educational purposes, but they should demonstrate better behaviour on the water. -
Fishtales carries them, but try out a few different models/actions before you buy. The TFO can be quite different from the Echoes.
