Isn't It Too Late (Whirling Disease)
eagleflyfisher replied to ÜberFly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Fishing a stream in BC this past fall and landed a smaller cutthroat that had the exact same appearance as the picture above but no crooked tail. Do some fish just occasionally have a skin colouring like that ? It was sure black from the dorsal back. -
River Access Strategy - Feedback Time
eagleflyfisher replied to bcubed's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
We got another development brewing right now, downstream of cottonwood on Manix's old land. Outfit called Walden or Walton bought I think it was 1 1/2 miles River front and 640 acres. Keep the damn development out of the river vally! -

Ok you are herby boat traffic control guy. No doubt a boat going up & down the river will stir up sediment & cause some erosion. I guess it boils down to that fact that I'm tired of just about any & every opportunity somone has to spout about jetboats they do. I don't think my logic is off, paint on car is going to get scratched then key it ? Keep fish they are going to die anyhow? I personally don't think jets are as much of a contributor to bank erosion as everyone would like to think, as I said it's a heavily used River with many reasons for erosion. Anyhow I'm an open minded guy, get your protractors out and show me just how much the river bank erodes from boat traffic. Also show me how much from the others mentioned. Yes wrong some dork was above the city limits, I get it. Btw when I think jets on the bow I'm talking the small guys, little 30-40 hp jobs not big inboards out occasionally.

Would there be a noticeable difference if there were no waves lapping the shoreline from boats. Consider that we have hundreds of fishermen/women clambering in & out, up & over banks day after day. We have spring run offs, rising & falling water levels care of trans Alta. Beavers dropping trees. Cattle etc.. Lower down on river. All these combined plus others all do there fair share of bank erosion.

Harvie Passage Redevelopment Starts
eagleflyfisher replied to fishteck's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
What's the price tag on this development? I remember pre flood the website for Harvie passage plan was a sort of cartoon drawing showing what they were going to build.i don't think it turned out like the drawing. Now it's ripped up again, was the passage ruined from the flood? Anyhow drove by the other week and they have a lot of equipment in the river and some big mountains piled up. Yes I read the plans & apparently this is something Calgary needs. -
Thoughts From All, Good Or Bad
eagleflyfisher replied to troutguy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Yes the winters are long & lonely and the bills keep coming. It's now spring, things should get going, but wait it's been raining for a month. Fairly short season around here. How long until the initial investment is recouped ? After rent, common area costs, labour, misc bills, insurance not to mention restocking shelves... what is left over. Location with lots of walk by traffic is important. Mall with a HD, Tims, Canadian tire etc..would help. Just my 2 cents. -

Did the survey, all hand launches below fish creek. Frenchman's will be great. Better if full launch. Hope a full rebuild of police is in the plan. If plumbed washrooms are on site maybe gear washing stations . Proper signage to give angler some clue to regs, some dork was on the rocks at police dunking worms the other day. Anti poaching signs at all launches could help. Great to see a plan in the works. -

Pressure washer for sure, tip boat up and start blasting, 10'times quicker too. I buy some good brushes from classic cleaning supplies. -
Salmon Farms And The Government
eagleflyfisher replied to fishinhogdaddy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I will not eat farmed salmon EVER I too have been following this for years. I would like to know how many farms are on the west coast ? 5, 10 a hundred ? It's un effin believable that with all the damage that the farms are doing that they aren't shut down! Hey you want a farm... Raise your frankenfish not in the ocean but in big pools in some warehouse & there you go. If it doesn't work for you tough *hit get a different job. -
Boat Inspections
eagleflyfisher replied to murray's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Been checked about 6 times last 2 years, jet & ski boat. Good work fellas, keep thos zebra mussels out of here.always ask the guys and they find a fair amount. Makes you more aware to keep vessel clean. -
I sent an angel, U.K. Made in last season. I contacted I believe warranty. I guess they made in as painless as possible, was in contact with them a few times & they seem to know what was happening at all times. The cost was way more than I liked, about $275 plus the shipping to get it there. If your rod is not made in uk should cost less. Considering they probably got one of the old farts to build up a couple new sections it was quick turn around. About a month start to finish. No I didn't go through a shop.

Your Favorite Dry Fly Rod
eagleflyfisher replied to eagleflyfisher's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Appreciate the offer, I will take you up on that. I didn't realize the shops were carrying glass rods. I'll have to try one for sure to see if it's what I'm after. -
What would be your favorite rod for dry fly fishing. I've been running a Sage SP + 490 since 1996. I think it's great only because it's what I've gotten used too. Messed around with a few others the last 10 years & always back to the Sage. I've been interested in trying a glass rod but know zero about them. Love to cast one but none of my buddies have one. I should say that 90% of my fishing is on the bow. Let's hear what you fish & why.

There isn't too many threads left on this forum that don't get blown apart by a keyboard commando lately. Why bother posting crap like this ?

I've got a new neighbor that is the man, he just finished extensive customizing of my friends Searc, anchor system, movable oar locks, foot brace, storage, transom, leg braces , all custom fabbed, powder coated & sweet. Now has a few more friends boats in the lineup. IronAreo. Pm if you like and I'll give you contact. We're out by policemans flats ish.

Man I hope it wasn't built in UK, I busted my angel 2 seasons ago on a giant rock , thought I hooked a big bull & exploded it. Dumdum Sent it back for warranty, lifetime of course & I had to pay almost $350 to get it out of hock!

I happened to see one of the new drifters last fall in BC. Looks pretty much the same as mine with only a few cosmetic differences. It is my understanding that they will only build the boat in an 18' model. Great to have the room but makes it a pretty big vessel to row & power. The one I saw had a 90hp on the back.weight wise that is up to or over 1000lbs plus gear & passengers. Fishrite never had an accurate weight on my 16' . I got the guide model which has more weight to it with the storage & casting platforms etc. If I had to guess I'm thinking 650-750lbs without motor.my 50 jet is 250lbs. I'll have to weigh it one day.

I know who the landowner is /was . I was told he donated the parcel after the 05 flood to the crown. What exactly does that mean ? The MD owns it? The community ?
-
Don't make it too pretty, remember after 05 there was quite a few bigger jets launching there .
-
Wayne Anderson is our highwood MLA
-
Sat beside our MLA this eve and asked about the boat launch. I knew the landowner donated the policemans launch area back after 2005 flood. The land from police down to the water ski course was up for a potential development called sanctuary on the bow. Anyhow the land that is policemans flats is now owned by the crown confirmed by our MLA & there is no plans for any refurbishment in the near future. I like Tungsten s original suggestion of some heavy equipment under the radar.

What Is This Thing ?
eagleflyfisher replied to greatbigdiddy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
My son when he was younger was obsessed with catching frogs, salimanders etc.. Lots of them around, the one in the pic maybe isn't as big as the camera makes it look.
