TheMuddler Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 So today Someone did a drive by and decided to steal my tail gate it was locked... this is twice in the last few weeks my friend had his stolen as well , witness seen that it was a white truck. just a heads up . Quote
TheMuddler Posted April 24, 2016 Author Posted April 24, 2016 so in other words your tail gate is not safe. I hope someone gets them. Quote
ÜberFly Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Call me nieve, but is there a black market for used tailgates? Quote
Brunsie Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Peter A couple of years ago, they busted a guy in Thornhill with about 35 tail gates in his garage. Apparently they're worth quite a bit on the "black market" Later Bk Quote
SilverDoctor Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Yep I lock mine religiously after my neighbor lost his a few years ago. Crooks will grab anything that isn't tied down. Quote
TheMuddler Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 yeah mine was locked, my truck was parked near a camera so hopefully it was on when this happened ill know tomorrow. Quote
ÜberFly Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Wow! I would have never thought!! Weird!! Thanks Brunsie! Peter A couple of years ago, they busted a guy in Thornhill with about 35 tail gates in his garage. Apparently they're worth quite a bit on the "black market" Later Bk Quote
Taco Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I've had front driveshafts stolen but never a tailgate..... but then again the tailgates on my trucks are soon beat to bejesus by ricochetin' rocks. Quote

fishinglibin Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Tail Gate theft has been big for a while now. Price out a tailgate, you will be surprised how expensive they are. I always keep mine locked but based on the original post, his was also locked. Locks only keep out nice people. Quote
Swede Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 well think about it they've turned 40 dollar parts into 500 dollar parts over the last 20 years i guess people would steal them takes what 20 seconds to take a tailgate off a truck. 500 bucks to replace my driver side mirror. fricken ridiculous. Quote
BigFoamy Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 was in edmonton this weekend. all the cars at the hotel got broke into, took everything, even the owners manual. Quote
Claire Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I also have heard that tailgates are hot item on the crooks list. It could be all the electronics especially if you have a backup camera etc. Quote
TheMuddler Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 yeah it will cost roughly 2600 bucks with all parts and labor, i would believe any of the more recent models of trucks esp ones with a camera and all the fancy stuff would only be more. Quote
Taco Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Backing into a gatepost with the tailgate down should alleviate the tailgate theft problem, done that once or twice. My father's specialty was unhooking a gooseneck horsetrailer and driving off forgetting to open the tailgate. Thieves seldom want a tailgate with a 6" ding or bow.. 4 Quote
murray Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Oh great, now I gotta get me a goose neck trailer. Where will it end? 2 Quote

Yeah it's not uncommon, I bought a truck off the company I work for, the tailgate got lifted by some clown prior... Not easy or cheap to replace thats for sure. Quote

pepper Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 The tailgate was stolen from our Ford Ranger several years ago while it was parked at the Fish Creek boat launch. We were told by Ford dealerships at that time that tailgates that have back up cameras in them were most at risk. (Ours did not have a camera) Quote
Weedy1 Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 There's a simple explanation for all of this. It's how a Calgarian finds a piece of tail. 3 Quote

bowbonehead Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I'd always heard that country tail was better Quote
