  1. tip - know what you are going to do with the new rig. have some idea in your mind as to what your casting style is and what kind of water you will be using it on as well as your budget. no point looking at a $500 rod and a $250 reel if your budget is $200 for both. go to one of the local shops and try as many out as you can.
  2. considerate thieves use slim jims
  3. go to www.hookandhackleclub.org for meeting location. This Wednesday April 28. Bring itemes to sell or come to get in on the great deals and bring a friend. Just a details about our annual auction, which is all set to go this Wednesday April 28 at our regular meeting location. As always, a fun evening will be in store as Auctioneer Stan leads the big sell-off of a multitude of treasures donated by club members and supportive local businesses. Please take the opportunity to do some spring cleaning at home and identify any items (they don’t have to be fishing-related!) you want to donate to the auction. For more valuable items (worth more than $50 or so) that you may want to sell rather than donate, let us know your minimum price and we will set that as the “reserve price” on the item. If our auctioneer is able to solicit a final bid that is greater than the reserve price, you receive the reserve price and the club keeps the difference. If bids do not exceed the reserve price, you take your item back home. Plan to arrive with your items between 6:00 and 6:45 pm – the bidding starts at 7:00 pm sharp! Also, please take note of the following to help ensure the evening runs smoothly: The auction is open to everyone. Members and guests may donate items and participate in the bidding. All bidders will register with the Treasurer and receive a bidder number. If you plan to bid, please do not forget to bring payment! Canadian cash or cheques accepted. Cheque payments work best for us as our ability to make change can sometimes be limited. Please plan to pay for your items either at the end of the evening or at the break about halfway through. It is very difficult for us to accept payments and make change, etc. while the live auction is going on. Thank you to members who have helped out by obtaining donations from various local businesses. Here are just a few of the items available this year: Item Contributor Bow River jet boat trip for 2 Arnie Hillis Bow River float trip for 2 Rick Moses Bow River full day walk & wade for 1 Dave Curtis Livingstone River walk & wade for 2 Monty Buechler & Louise Stinson Bow River jet boat trip for 2 Doug Hamm Bow River float trip for 2 Monty Buechler Fly casting lessons (1.5 hrs) for up to 4 Walter Simbirski Oldman River walk & wade for 2 Walter Simbirski Drift boat rental including shuttle service Bow River Shuttles Jim McLennan’s “Watermarks” book (3 copies) Southbow Fly Shop Orvis waders (size XL) Country Pleasures Orvis waders (size XL) Country Pleasures Orvis wading boots (size 9) Country Pleasures GPS receiver The Fishin’ Hole Fly tying materials Superfly Inc Floating fly lines (2) Wayne Reading Fly boxes (2) Springbrook Manufacturing High-quality hackle capes (6) Fish Tales Fly Shop Ball caps & t-shirts Flys, Etc Gift certificate Flys, Etc Fly fishing vest Wyld Outfitters Fly boxes Wyld Outfitters Framed wildlife print Ducks Unlimited Fly tying materials Hook & Hackle Club Fly tying materials Mike Corrigan Demo fly rods (3) Bow River Troutfitters 3 Copies of Water Marks Southbow And much more… So come on out, bring your wallets, bring your (useless junk / unappreciated treasures), and bring your friends!
  4. Belly boat hussle it's things like these you find when you don't have cable and you've watched everything worth watching. Alberta Short film, parody i hope . because otherwise i am speachless and wondering if i should concerned that those on the outside looking in are mocking us...

  8. we got skunked... im blaming it on the gross weather that decided to move in. it was cold, windy and snowing for most of the afternoon. we each had hook-ups but couldnt land either. we did each land a stick. not a great fight but mine was bigger. all in all a fun day.
  9. i have one this afternoon and next week will be on tuesday.
  10. WOW, those are some serious high standards. i'm just happy my booze is wet
  11. that's awesome. hell of day and hell of a fish
  12. i'd like to see the reward just for showing up and putting out the effort... besides, how else am i going to get a point? i have to hope my partner sux as bad as i do. hummm, soooo i guess i'm not getting any points. ya'll better teach me how to spey cast then or nymph or something.
  13. i found a soft sided gear/tackle box with 2 levels lots of room at the fly shop in blairmore a few years ago. it was actually meant as a bass gear bag but i use the big box for hanging strung lures for my dubbing packages.
  14. i still dont think there are fish in that damn river.... it's all photoshop i tell you
  15. doesnt duct tape fix everything
  16. 11 out of 16 right, helps to have lived in Van in a past life
  17. good reminder, thanks Lynn. sady many people forget that their furry friends still have 'wild' stomachs and last time i checked, Canines can't cook. even my cat only gets raw meat as a treat now and then
  18. im not a big fan of the run of the mill beer. i will however go out of my way to try interesting and different beers from around the world if you wouldnt mind (if the mods let you) put your tasting notices up a little sooner, that would be great because i would really like to come and try one out. sadly i dont get to read the forum until i get home
  19. it's a nice rod, you will like it. i have no issues with both of us using it. honestly, everyone is going to out fish me on the bow anyway. i dont fish the bow more than 5 times a year and have caught a total of 15 fish in the past 7 years out of the bow, most of them have been out of a drift boat. walking i have i think i have caught 3. i want to learn to fish this rod and i want to learn to fish the Bow.
  20. hummm, i dont remember a rod length rule... guess i have to go back and read again i was planning on using my new Amundson 1134 spey/switch. i am no pro with a switch and there is no advantage to me using an 11 ft rod over a 9ft rod, mostly because i am still learning the casts and cannot get a decent drift with it yet, never mind casting more than the 42 foot line and leader that i have to cast in the first place. And that is why i wanted to use it. i figured if i used it once a week i would get an opportunity to practice with it.
  21. awww cute cat i wish i could remember my photobucket password
  22. your first sentance explains why he won't change. if the person is arrogant enough not to understand why someone was point out what a disservice he was doing to the poor fish, he will read the article and think 'yeah... i agree, those darned jerks mishandling fish...' and have no idea that he is one of those people. ignorance and idiocy are difficult to correct with hinting. and if he didnt get it when it was pointed out to him, the light bulb isnt going to come on just becausesome one tried to flick the switch when the brain isnt connected good luck tho
  23. ick, i'm so glad that everything was 50%/50% with my ex in the divorce, split the house and went our own ways. i just used divorce online.ca and had him served while we were doing the house stuff with the real estate lawyer. it was pretty easy. they even have the separation agreement documents, which really is what covers all the who gets what and entitled to pensions, investments, kids, blah, blah blah...
  24. :$*%&: it is the most important part of step 4... limp grip and results in poor sensitivity and an under powered action causing improper flexation of the rod thus equalling inadquet range and a really bad delivery why waste the time and the effort on limp, firm is best when handling anyone's rod
