  1. step one, take stiff but flexi pole and run some string run through it step 2 next - tie a curved pointy thing that has fur, feathers or some such stuff stuck to it on to the end of the string. step 3 add, lead weights close to the point thing to make it sink faster and a brightly coloured thingy to the other end to make it float remember testicles, specticles, wallet and watch - go to fast flowing water thing, that flows through town, we call it the bow in case you forgot, otherwise step 5 cannot occur step 4 hold your rod firmly and fling the string, floaty thing, weights and cruved point object at the water and wait patiently for a fish to mistake the pointy thing with fur/feathers etc for a food item step 5 if all goes well the fish will impale itself in the mouth. this is now cause for excitement!! if nothing happens - repeat step 4 until step 5 happens plastic bags will give head shakes, rocks and trees dont. no need for excitement - repeat step 4 hooking grass, dogs, kids, trees, shopping carts, birds, bats, golf balls, skeletal remains or beavers does not count, skip to step 6 and - repeat step 4 if fish mistakes the floaty thing as the point thing, the fish is defective and you didnt want it anyway - repeat step 4, at this point you may add pointy thing to floaty thing to try to out smart the defective fish - repeat step 4, if you take a friend and get tangled in his string, skip to step 6 and then - repeat step 4 step 4.1 - nothing is happening... change type of pointy thing - repeat step 4 step 4.2 - still nothing... add more weight - repeat step 4 step 4.3 - zzzzz... take off weight - repeat step 4 step 4.4 - really?!? still nothing - change placement of floaty thing - repeat step 4 step 4.5 - getting frustated - rather than change type of pointy thing, add another one - repeat step 4 step 4.6 - take a moment to breath - repeat step 4 step 4.7 - wind gust of 90k, string goes in opposite direction while flinging, hooking yourself - this does not count - skip to step 6 and repeat step 4 step 4.8 - throw stick thing in to the bush behind you, jump up and down, yell at friend - repeat step 4 step 4.9 - hummm, still nothing, eh? take all the stuff you tied to your string off replace with different a heavier string attatchment and a heavier pointy thing (no floaty thing) or add only a pointy thing that floats - repeat step 4 Step 6 - reel fish in, release and repeat step 4 or realize why its been so long and go home
  2. looking forward to it
  3. i heard a rumour today that this got cancelled due to date conflicts. please advise.
  4. perhaps i should add a movie camera to my fishing gear... some days i see more than my fair share of these idiots in forestry reserve area driving through the rivers next to the bridge
  5. wow... the stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me. or perhaps the direct translation of elk to language A back to english ends up being unicorn :/
  6. i've only caught grayling in the few lakes they are stocked outside of calgary on cronimides and micro leeches. unless someone has fished the little smoky, try a google search but standard trout fair should do it for you
  7. i hear the climate in venice this time of year is lovely and much nicer than uranus
  8. last summer i caught nice filet of brook trout, gutted and partially de-boned, 'aging' at the bottom of a pool and a few years ago found a burbot in the bow, washed up on the rocks. i guess i didnt catch that one, but i thought it strange anyway
  9. i should have my amundson 1134 tomorrow. i have sorted out my line issues and will be set up this weekend. if you want to give it a try, let me know. but more than anything else, before you decide to buy, go to fish tales, south bow and every other fly shop in town and try them all. see what fits you and your cast and your comfort. then decide what works for one person may not work for you.
  10. very cool, welcome
  11. one thing to consider with grayling, although not very big, when they turn sideways and flair the dorsal fin in the current, they seem a lot bigger than they actually are. 3, 4 or 5 wt (whatever you have) for the streams. for really small streams with decent sized trout but lots of crap, over hanging trees and steep rock walls with not a lot of casting room, i have a 7ft 9 4wt. i also have an 8ft 3wt and an 8.5ft 3wt. i use my 9.5ft 5wt for the lakes, which there are quite a few in and around the sundre area i have an old 8wt for pike. sorry, i havent fished for walleye but i would imagine an 8wt with a sinking line would work
  12. http://olivethewoollybugger.com/ with character names like Gilbert the Gold-Ribbed Hare's Ear, Polly the Partridge and Orange, Randal the Royal Coachman, Sally the Yellow Sally, and Stan the Stimulator all from Camp Tightloops and their adventures, how could you go wrong. Olive even has a facebook page, colouring pages and links to other kid friendly fly fishing sites. i need to borrow someone's kids to read fly fishing bed time stories to.
  13. at least it hasnt devolved into a global warming discussion

  18. honestly i dont know the river well enough to have spots so it doesnt matter to me
  19. 2nd week is good for me
  20. i cant suggest a 2 wt rod, but for line i really like the opti creek. has i nice shooting head designed for 15-30 ft casts in one go
  21. apparently i cannot be categorized
  22. you cant even get a cup of coffee down there Brian technically i was a city/sub-urb kid but i still had 50 acres of forest behind my house 1 stream 1 river and cable. i still chose to be outside rather than in, even when it rained for days on end. i also had grandparents and cousins who lived on farms with animals and chores that needed to be done before anything else. i learned where my meat comes from and that there are consequences when the work isnt done before the play time starts i did have 1 experience with a creepy guy hanging out near the school which was a few blocks from my house, he started to approach me and i ran the other way, in to the river and through my neighbours yard to get home and then locked the doors im more concerned about kids and their lack of common sense these days. too many parents just dont have time to spend quality time with their kids from a young age and once they turn into teens they are hellians with no sense of respect for anything. iguess that is what you learn when you grow up with daycare. my personal opinion about daycare, im sure there are lots out there that are decent but staff getting paid $10 an hour to watch 15 + kids just cannot give the same attention and learning oppertunities that a caring parent/grandparent etc can. it seems to be a problem with society is that everyone is too busy for anyone else and those moments we get to take a moment to wind down are few and far between so tv becomes an easy answer
  23. personally for me i was approched
  24. i have to admit i much prefer sight fishing dries on small streams or blindly throwing a dry into a riffle to see what will come out from a rock. i think learning to properly drift a dry has helped my nymph drifting too. but alas in the long winter when i do get out i fish streamers and numphs. i dont mind being called an elitiest, there is a certain challenge to dries but i wont restrict myself to soley fishing dries
