  1. As I was unsure of what T14 was (perils of being new-ish to fly fishing) thought this may help other forum members.... "T-14 is a very versatile material for constructing sinktips used when Skagit casting. The ’14’ means 14 grains per foot – it’s pretty bulky and sinks pretty fast, and it’s great for turning over and then sinking the big flies that are most often used when fishing in the Skagit style. Unfortunately pre-made T-14 tips aren’t readily available, and that means you need to cut the lengths that you want to fish and put loops on both ends. Rio sells T-14 in bulk spools as well as in packs that combine 30 feet of T-14 with some braided mono loops to be attached to the tip. Unless you’re going to turn your basement into a tip factory, the 30-foot packs probably work just fine." Source: Deneki.com
  2. Great ties Big Foamy, I’m enjoying all the photos!
  3. ^^ like that idea of keeping the business local. Great suggestion
  4. I have not received this survey via an AlbertaRelm email
  5. Wow!!! I would like to attend your Spring 2018 workshop
  6. Absolutely fantastic photos, clearly you had an outstanding season. Any personal bests caught?
  7. +1 for Coulee Brewing in Lethbridge! Will try Oldman River brewing as well.
  8. Reach out to Geoff Pieroway at Pieroway Rod Company. He fishes there every annually.
  9. my preference is always FishTales, however for the large box stores, wholesale was far better for fly fishing than Bass pro or Cabelas unfortunate that those folks have to work in the store closing morale until December and then look for jobs in a still tough economy.
  10. Perhaps Brodin Nets if Streamside falls through....
  11. Burning Chrome and Troutlover offer great advice. For your casting short list perhaps consider lighter gear. I too found the BVK quite heavy when I've fished several friends BVK's in 5wt and 6wt. Consider a look at the Orvis Recon line up. (also believe in the FFC trading post there is a forum member selling his 5wt (10') at a pretty sharp price)....you did clearly note a 6wt i realize....just sharing Finally, many of the fly shops are clearing out disco and demo rods. Perhaps phone around and you can score a deal on a 6wt if it suits your casting. Pieroway Note: My Dad grabbed an Element from Geoff last year and quite likes it. No customer service issues, you just need to realize that Geoff is not a 7day a week fly shop that you can stop by. Just make an appointment with him.
  12. Really enjoy the pictures!
  13. Preface this post that I have no vested interest in Ottlites, just like finding killer deals and sharing them! So as information to FFC..... OttLite LED desk lamp is on sale at Costco for $27.99 ending this Sunday (August 6th, 2017). Natural Daylight LED bulb, three brightness settings, rubberized neck for flexibility of how light shines and USB charger built in. I'm new to tying but have found my Ottlite is perfect for my tying set up. Same light at Ottlite.com is $69.99 USD

  16. So many Jet Boat cheaters up in Mackenzie and Cranston. Happy to phone into CPS now that I know. Hope "whatever guy" gets nailed.
  17. Saw on CTV that the CFD has lifted the Bow River boating advisory
  18. Headed out Sunday with my daughter for her first Bow River walk and wade Had our fishing license checked, but not by F&W. A Calgary Police Service zodiac was cruising the river and couple of CPS officers pulled into shore and asked us for our licenses and to show what we had on our line for flies. Did not realize that CPS did this. Always great that licenses and lures/flies are being checked! She caught her first ever fish...a spectacular, feisty 21" Rainbow (measured) who was more than angry!! Great Fathers Day gift to be there for that experience and excitement Then I caught my first sucker.......on a Streamer!!!!! Somehow hooked it just behind the anal fin. Not much of a tussle but those things are built like a tank. Brilliant day.

    Waders

Hi Murray, I would absolutely have a look at the Orvis wader offerings as part of your mix
  20. Brilliant picture!....and nice looking fish
  21. Unfortunate but expected once the Bow River was confirmed. Lots of anglers who go between those two fisheries.
