Excited to try my new GoPro when chasing trout this 2017 season, however looking for advice from current GoPro users. In your experience, what GoPro accessories have helped you capture the best footage? Head strap with ballcap quick clip Chest strap The extendable pole Your insights appreciated!

I'm in 'the lighter rod and reel combo, the better' camp. IMO, Lighter gear across 100's of casts helps my aging body with not tiring as quickly.

Stale format, needs to be completely re-tooled. Show needs to consult with local fly shops and key reps to make it more compelling (IMO). Agree that exhibitors have been declining rapidly over the past two years. On another note, Also noticed that the TU fly fishing tackle swap/garage sale has been declining in number of tables selling the past couple of years.....

I'm also a fan of the new Orvis Silver Sonic guide waders.....Dad has them and they are very durable but never used for bushwacking. -

No Expo this year. Here is a portion of the post by the Forum Owners back at the end of June: In January of 2001 Calgarians were introduced to the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition. Over the last 14 years it has grown to represent all of western Canada and throughout that time so many great friendships have been formed. The show floor is always packed full of folks who have become part of our extended family. The exposition has become the annual "watering hole" for the western Canadian fly-fishing community, is well respected by industry and is a must attend event on the consumer show circuit. For the Bird family, this event has afforded the opportunity to remain close, which for us, is so much more valuable than any financial measurement. So many good things have come from the exposition, including Fly Fusion Magazine, the International Fly Fishing Film Festival, Fly Fusion Television and a new project in development. We can’t begin to express just how grateful we are to you, the exhibitors, for your loyal dedication. For the 2017 trade show season we have decided to not produce the exposition. Instead, we are going to take the opportunity to join the show circuit (The Fly Fishing Shows) and visit a number of different cities throughout North America with the magazine - that is long overdue! We believe wholeheartedly in the value of connecting with the fly-fishing community face-to-face. We are not closing the doors on the exposition and hold the ongoing option, desire and capacity to produce the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition at any time in partnership with the will and needs of the fly-fishing community. On behalf of the Bird family - thank you! "

Let's support Whirling Disease research by attending FishTales/TU "Providence" movie screening tomorrow night! Bought my ticket today and FishTales shared a biologist will be on hand to talk about the disease just after doors open at 7:00pm. $20 for the movie, Whirling Disease biologist talk and TU fundraiser for Whirling Disease research feels like a great way for the FFC to support our fishery (IMO) -

Might anyone have an EASY Boatmen pattern that they don't mind sharing with an entry level tier? My tying skill set has mastered the wire worm so far and about to graduate to the Wooly Bugger......

IMO, 'Feels like' the most successful fly shops are south of the weir , where best fishing is on the Bow. Not sure if there is a cause and effect relationship. For the North part of the City and perhaps Airdrie, Iron Bow is a stunning fly shop with quality staff providing insights. I decide which fly shop to buy my stuff at based on 1. How I am helped and treated by the staff 2. Proximity to my house Personally, for Fly Shops, i don't think either Bass Pro or their recently acquired Cabelas is much of a threat. The shops are small on breadth of selection, push their house brands where possible and candidly the pricing is nothing special. I also choose to shop and support local shops when I can. I think your biggest competition is the internet. Perhaps test a "Pop up shop" in Airdrie before committing to a lease and full time space. Definitely focus on the affordable to mid priced product where the majority of your sales will be.

These fines need to be significant to be a deterrent, NOT same price as a speeding ticket.
