Could Fishing Become Criminal?
BrianR replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Another case of an idiotic law. With some beuargrats sensationalising it.Point in fact, the charade in the legislature regarding aeration. All the may have come of that is a huge pile of DEAD fish.By all means Pinkster bring it to there attention... -

I Want Bigger Pike, And I Want Them Now!
BrianR replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I am not a pike fisherman.I have been told that it is very exciting.A couple of things ,that helped create QSF.No bait,Limiting the catch[ie]Beaver lk. 1 over 1 under 15" .Resulted in fisher's intent on .Well I got to get a under15,then a over15".The reg .change, saved this fishery imo.The philoshy of fisheries,is there has to be an ability to harvest fish ,at some point.. The other thing to note is that there is no longer thousands of lbs. of fish, falling prey to commercial nets.ESRD. really needs to control the treaty Indians catch/keep limits.Ie what is subsistence in amounts. When the reefers are full ? -
Give some of them Calgarians a few weeks & you`ll see lotsa ski poles etc. in there garbage.I keep little kids in the neighborhood in good supply of hockey sticks.Summer bikes..We are a very wasteful society..

Very good books. Both by Phil & Brian.Jack shaw books shouldn't be over looked either
-
Being that I only fish stillwaters. It sure would have been good to see some other presenters.Names like Tom Lam renowned for his chironomid seminars.John Kent for his inivative Stillwater ties,to name a couple. That is not to say that Phil, still doesn't do a fine job.Grant you there really isn't that much innovation in the sport.Bugs haven't really changed. But materials & how to fish the bugs have. But saying that i'll still probably go kick some boats etc.

You should look at the bait fishers section in most tackle shops ie jig boxes.I took a box,a dremel[shaved off all the compartments.Went to Michel's ,p'kd up some 1/4" foam.Foam glue. I got the idea via you tube..It was called the Frugal Fly Box.Mine is a four sided box.Any more info.pm. you e address,i'll send you pictures.total cost was $ 20.00

Aeration Of Lakes May Come To End In Alberta
BrianR replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Police is controlled by AB.Parks, whether they choose to comply, with the gov't suggestion .The aerators werenot present last oct 16/2015 -
These fellows deserve a well rounded thanks.I'll probably miss a few, they had a share in helping develop, moderate, watch over.A lot of our quality lakes they wouldn't be in existence, for not these guys .Don Andersen,Allan Caldwell,Clive Shaupmeyer,Jim Stelfox,Peter Little,Jeff Wilson. There are more unsung fighters for our fisheries..Thanks

Surely going barbless would help with the release

Aeration Of All Stocked Lakes Under Threat
BrianR replied to dryfly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
For at least 4 of my last mtg attendances at the esrd rnd tbl .I have asked, suggested ,gave them prove .Of the stupidty that some people will go ,to attempt to catch a fish. One would think surely, that a bona fide C&R fishery.Wouldnot allow for ICE Fishing..We have Grayling fisheries, that people still follow the practice of ice fishing. The resource[fish],is so fragile.Lay it out on the ice take a photo & then boot it back down the hole.- 11 replies

For The Hunters Out There
BrianR replied to murray's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I don't mean to change your pheasant topic. But on the hunting theme.I was down at Police lk.on thrus. There were 5 huge bull elk,on the north end hill. What a site, silouetted in the skyline. They stood there for 15-20 mins, then moseyied into some bushes. No girls around.Anyone of them would had made a herd bull -
Exciting to watch..

Calgary Next......next!
BrianR replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Didn't someone also say.NO more building on the flood plain. If this goes ahead the gouge they put in the ground ,will allow all the built up creosote an escape route. There by removeing a hazard ,that the gov't doesnot want to touch.IMO,better in the long run for the environment. -
Tiger Trout Stocking Survey
BrianR replied to DonAndersen's topic in News Discussion and Current Issues
Thanks Don for posting the pkg. Please do take the time ,to do some or all. .We did a survey a while back at Beaver,it was nearly unamois for a c& r fishery. This survey asks again, where do these surveys end up.Me thinks it's a case of covering there as es.Keep the public informed. If you note 5 are QSF Waters & the others are not..To the best of my knowledge they havenot offered any ID pictures of these Tigers. You could also email Jim. Wagner@gov.ab letting him know your concerns.I was in favor of all the injection of Tigers to some of our Perch infested trout fisheries.Tigers are very predatory fish, they eat just about anything they can get there mouth around. At a Hook & Hackle club mtg. we invited Craig Copeland the mgr. of the cold lk. hatchery in jan 2015.He said then that the tigers in there facility were 11" approx.,.Putting them at around 14-16" now.Any fall stocking of brown's [ ie Muir],will be expensive tiger food.. -
Pretty special recent trades ,have the Jays in contention.IMO David Price just acquired,Tulowitski,Donaldson ,Martin YEE HAW !!!

Sweating my fat -ss off .So I thought I would look see where all these, proposed spots are.Esrd definitely is spreading them around. To be fair I'm using the AB.Fishing guide 2015.So Hasse lk.Was stocked with walleye?Lower Chain lk.has pike & perch in it.East twin lk. is up by Manning ab.[Travel Ab] destination for sure.Tyrell lk.as mentioned feedlot run-off definite issue. What a waste. But I guess that's what they call sharing the resource. It's like the guy at the hatchery said. We'er like farmers we raise what, the public wants.Keeps them in the business of raising fish.

Both Muir & Beaver meet some of there requirements for the trial. My thoughts Beaver is C & R,therefore the reg's should cover the Tigers. Both places are aerated,no inlet or outlets.Tigers get along with most ,other trout. They are highly predatory,so they may help the ESRD.Get some decent feed back on perhaps, lowering perch numbers in trout infested lakes ie.Phyliss,Tay,Twin, with there aggressive nature. They still need to jump a few barriers, stockings probably won't be until sept 15,or 2016.You could send your concerns to dave.park@gov.ab.ca
