  1. This time of year they are often eating the bugs just UNDER the surface rather than on top. It is a challenging puzzle. Next month will be easier
  2. Awesome day with the boy. Fooling fish is fun!
  3. Having caught whistling trout before under the indicator, I thought I would try for a different species today at the surface
  4. Did you get any scales on your hooks? Often the fish will cruise around checking out the fly, they may bump the the leader and it looks like a bite but actually isn't. There are days when I accidentally snag fish while indicator fishing. If you inch your line in slowly it may help with hook up success
  5. They used to rotenone the east end each spring to knock the suckers down. That no longer happens. Overstocking, suckers and perhaps some other issues have collapsed the shrimp population. No scuds over size 18 and many are size 30 in the fish. Hard for the fish to grow when there is very little food around. We caught 10 suckers this weekend
  6. Glory days are gone. Lots of 16-17.5" fish now. Haven't seen one over 20" in years
  7. Tiny fish hit fast and often don't hook up
  8. Used a Greys Xf2 Salt 7wt this winter. Good tool, cheaper than a Helios
  9. But did you keep the lucky "Blue Sweater"
  10. Alberta boat inspection news for invasives: http://raymondirrigationdistrict.ca/?p=598
  11. Found out that boats need to be inspected for Zebra mussels before hitting the water in Montana on the weekend. Inspections have to be done every 7 days. Limited number of road side inspection stations available. Project just getting started and probably will evolve over time. Worth looking into if you are planning a trip south so you can plan travel routes to hit inspection site. Any of you guys been through an inspection down there? Signs said there would be stiff fines if you don't have the inspection paperwork.
  12. Caught a nice 8lb pike there last year. It loves stockers
  13. Happy BDay Mr. S. I imagine you are getting even more distinguished as the years pass. May you catch the fish of a lifetime this year!
  14. I use about 12ft of 12-15lb Maxima to the first knot. If going deeper than 20 feet I'll add another 5ft chunk of Maxima. After that I'll just add some 10lb fluorocarbon (Berkley transition or Rio) to the flies. I've found if you have flurocarbon between the fly line and the bobber, the line sinks and makes hook sets less effective. Lots of ways to get the job done
  15. Get one of those kid carrying backpacks and start some adventures together
  16. If fishing in Alberta, use a tungsten bead headed fly instead of a split shot/swivel for weight. Then drop your favorite fly off of that. BC guy's don't have this option.
  17. Rainbows are eating little carp at Blood Indian already....Tigers will love them. Now how long will it take for them to get bonked? Lots of people driving from Calgary already to fill the stomach daily AND bring home their daily family limit.
  18. There is quite a few in the hatchery at Cold lake. The hatchery here is having a hard time raising them past 3". It will be interesting to see if it really happens
  19. Your flashlights to do not have all wavelengths of light to harden everything up....put the sun does. The resins you use have specific wavelength requirements...so you need to have the right flashlight. I believe these resins come from the dental industry. Just ask your dentist if he wants to donate his light next time
  20. Jared, your message box is full. Obviously you are WAY to popular. I don't want to look at any more pictures without my line in there somewhere:)
