  1. Where was the beetle killing when I was out there two weeks ago?? Stupid beetles......
  2. So, since the Tulo trade, the Jays are 11-1, 11-0 with Tulo in the line up. Then they acquired a full on Ace in Price to get them a nice solid starter to round out the rotation. Price was virtually unhittable in his two starts as a Jay and they handed the Yankees their first back to back shutouts since 1999, while sweeping their three game series over the weekend. They lead the Jays by a mere 1.5 games now, after having an 8 game lead before the Tulo trade. I am still cautiously optimistic with this bunch, but the pieces are certainly there to make a long run deep into the playoffs this year. Would be nice to finally get back to October baseball as we haven't seen it north of the border since 1993.
  3. Lovely pictures! I love the Bald Eagle launching!
  4. Nice! I love Cutties!
  5. That's rough dude. Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope that he gets the best treatment that he deserves so that you can spend as much time with him as possible, and like BF said, the number of years increases over time and treatment. God's Speed and Blessings.
  6. Looks like a great trip! I haven't seen Aaron in ages! How's he doing? Looks like he's doing great lol
  7. I find that with heavier line lengths that, particularly on the back cast, I need to stop the rod with a sharper "snap" at the top. This allows the rod to do more of the work and deliver the line back for a good load. Also, when you're practicing, watch your line and rod as you back cast. Make sure you watch the line and loop roll, and get used to the feel of the load. Once you see the line roll, out, progress forward and again, stopping with a sharper "snap" when you stop. Also, try to avoid using too much line. I find that when I have my 7wt out, I try to false cast with too much line out. Only keep out as much as you can handle, for me its usually the shooting head of the line, most lines now and days are mutli coloured, so you can see where the shooting head stops and the running line starts. I find that my 7wt shoots line like crazy, with minimal effort, so once you get used to hauling, you can fire out all the line you need. Don't get too concerned with bombing out 90' of line. You will rarely ever been in a situation where you will need to shoot that much line. Not a pro caster either, trust me. This is just what works for me. Don't forget, practice makes better. Because perfect is un-achievable.
  8. As a father of two, I can only imagine the things going through your mind. I don't know what I would do if that happened to one of my kids. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Wishing for a speedy recovery. I hope the little guy gets better very soon.
  9. I have had two pairs of Korkers and have nothing but great things to say about them. The only reason I bought a second pair is because like an idiot, I bought the wrong size the first time. Had the Redside (great boot for just over $100) and now have the Buckskin, which has more durable materials for only a few bucks more. Having the interchangeable soles is amazingly convenient. Case and point is a couple years ago, I was fishing a back country river in BC with some buddies and one of the soles started to peel off. Not sure why, but it just came unglued and was flopping around lol. We were quite a hike from the truck, but I managed easily enough with it flopping around. When we got back, two minutes later I popped on a different pair of soles and was able to keep fishing in comfort. Soles wear out, break down, or even come unglued. It happens. I would rather spend $40 for a new set of replacement soles because they wore out, than have to drop another $200 on a new pair of boots because getting them re-soled is so expensive that it would make more sense to replace the whole boot. Don't get me wrong, I love Simms. Have a ton of their gear, Jacket, packs, shirts, accessories, I love the company, I just love the convenience of the soles. Either way you go, you won't make the wrong decision. Like Uber said, go with what fits you best. I just wanted to share my experience with my Korkers.
  10. I haven't had the pleasure of fishing with Dave, but a couple friends of mine have, and like you, have nothing but great things to say about him and his fishing skills. And, judging by the articles he writes for Fly Fusion, his history, and background, I can't think of a better couple than Dave and Amelia to take over for Alberta Fishing Guide. All that said, I am glad that you had a trip to remember after all the health issues that you have had to endure over the last couple years. I hope that you are able to continue to follow your passion of fly fishing as you learn to deal and live with your condition. Great pictures and an even better story, thanks for sharing with us.
  11. I too, love every frikin thing about fly fishing. Thanks for taking us on your journey Steve. Next time, actually TAKE ME ON YOUR JOURNEY! I love how you manage to find time to dig out your camera for a shot while fighting the fishes....
  12. Also, "Never argue with a stupid person, they will drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.: - The Internet

Great pictures! I love the sunset behind the tree!
  16. You were grinding my gears? That NEVER happens on this site...how COULD you!? I wish someone would edit this emoticon to the proper "You're a Bait Fisherman" if I'm gonna rib someone....I would like to at least be grammatically correct.
  17. I've heard that, but it's never been my experience. I have had two different models and the only reason that I replaced my first pair was that I was an idiot and bought the wrong size! Which meant I had to replace all the damn soles too lol Two seasons strong on this current set and no issues so far.
  18. Buy Korkers....you can replace the soles for $40
  19. Sadly, it seems the ONLY people who get upset by this are the fishermen. I suppose if more people got upset, then maybe, it would happen less. I doubt it, but one can dream. Can't fix stupid.
  20. God DAMN! Well done my friend, well done!
  21. Sweet. Fish Tales carries Fishpond, I'm sure that I can pick one up there. Thanks Jay!
  22. All this talk about water temperatures, makes me want to pick up thermometer before my next trip out. What do you guys recommend for a good stream thermometer? Do the infrared ones work? Sorry for the hijack.
  23. Nice fish!
