  1. I remember the hurricane on the oldman! Wasn't cold at all, but windy as hell! Pretty sure I saw a couple houses fly by.....
  2. So these are proposed, when would they make it official? 2015 or 2016?
  3. I try to get out when its over 0. This time of year, even if its only one day of warm weather, several days of warm weather can weaken ice shelves, which is scary as hell! Lost a fish on an ice shelf because I heard a wicked crack while fighting it and decided to get the heck out of dodge as opposed to land it. Nothing happened, but did manage to hook and land that same fish on the next swing lol
  4. I just bought the same reel for my 6wt! Silver lining....fastest retrieve out of them all. However, I do have two Access reels on my 5 and 3wt's. So yay me!
  5. Found this article on the Book of Faces today. Interesting read. We've all read the 5wt shootout for fly rods, but this is the first reel shootout I've seen. Winner likely isn't much of a surprise, but some of the other results may be. http://www.tridentflyfishing.com/blog/2015-5-weight-reel-shootout-fly-reel-review-and-test-best-trout-reel-lamson-hatch-abel-ross#.VNrIWEdGDRE.facebook
  6. Because you asked...... fly fish·ing noun the sport of fishing using a rod and an artificial fly as bait.
  7. After filing their personal tax returns by April 30th, many Canadians will again receive a tax refund. This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it in a Q & A format: Q. What is a tax refund payment? A. It's money that the federal government will send to taxpayers. Q. Where will the government get this money? A. From taxpayers. Q. So the government is giving me back my own money? A. Only a smidgen of it. Q. What is the purpose of this payment? A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy. Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China? A. Shut up. Below are some helpful tips on how to best help the Canadian economy by spending your tax refund wisely: ▪ If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka. ▪ If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs. ▪ If you purchase a computer, it will go to India, Taiwan or China. ▪ If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala ▪ If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea. ▪ If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan. ▪ If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore Instead, keep the money in Canada by: 1) Spending it at yard sales, or 2) Going to hockey games, or 3) Spending it on prostitutes, or 4) Beer or 5) Tattoos. (These are the only "truly" Canadian businesses still operating) Conclusion: Go to a hockey game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day! No need to thank me, I'm just glad to be of help.
  8. That's a fair point Lornce. Hard to believe that you would find many reels doing that now and days, but you never can tell. To date, I've never had that issue with any of the reels on my rods. Besides, you can just palm it if the drag goes on ya' ;-)
  9. Regardless of what reel you get, just get something that you like the look of and fits your budget. All the reels in that size are going to be pretty much less than an oz difference in weight from one another and you won't feel that difference in your rod balance. All it does is hold your line anyway and that's basically it. Some advice that was given to me by one of the instructors in my beginner fly fishing course; he suggested that if you're going to spend money on fishing gear, spend it on the rod (making sure that you test cast as many rods in the length and weight class you're in the market for and buy the one you like best in your price range, regardless of the name), but if you are going to cut the cost on anything, make it the reel. All it is there for is to hold your line. The instructors name was Jim McLennan. Just my two cents worth.
  10. Hydros rods have been gone for a few years now. Reels are still available for sale.
  11. Orvis Access. Have them on both my 5wt BVK and my 3wt BVK. Great reels for the money.
  12. Stunning. Just, stunning. Amazing trip, amazing pics. Thanks for taking us on your trip.
  13. Jared, I already have the 8'6" 5wt, and I love it! Going with the 8'0" 3wt to replace my 7'6" 3wt. Then I will have that rod for my son to use when we go out together.
  14. Also had a great time at the Show on Sunday. Got a nice little email from the dudes at TFO. Seems that I won a shiny new BVK!
  15. That was the biggest damn cuttie I've every seen. On film or otherwise. That was NUTS! Gotta love the humor in Sensei though. I have no idea how April was able to keep a straight face with Hank lol
  16. Nice. Will have to take the dog for a walk down there and do some bird watching.

  18. I have the Grand on my 7wt and the Gold on my 3 and 5wt. I had it on my 6wt as well, but switched it to the indicator line for nymphing as that is what I do the most with it. I find that the indicator line really turns over those weighted/multiple fly rigs a little easier than the Gold did. Because the action on the 7wt is so fast, I am considering taking the Grand down to a Gold this year, or even switching it to a streamer tip as the only thing that I do with my 7wt is chuck streamers with it.
  19. I will be attending only the one day. Sadly, I work both the Friday and the Saturday, so I will be in on the Sunday. Will have to talk to the kids to see if they would rather be in church thinking about fishing, or at the fishing expo thinking about God ;-)
  20. Beauty brown! And a nice release. Well done. No sink tip for the streamer?
