There are limited numbers of non-guided non-resident rod days. If you don't book one of these days (or a guide with one) , you don't get to fish...

Can Anyone Tell Me What This Is?

Excessive hook scarring -
ya, that worked well last time I brought it up
-
Word is that it is coming, just a question of when. Probably fine if you're on the mainstem Skeena
-
Just wait till they bring in the same system for up there...

They're not useless so don't throw them away or anything silly you can still use the them using the original rigging for intruders.. I'd cut the loop off, and get yourself some junction tubing (take one to a fly shop and ask to make sure the tubing fits). Rigging: Tippet through bottom of eye of hook, along back of shank and down through the other eye (assuming you're using waddingtons or similar). Then thread through junction tube. Tie your hook on with a non-slip mono loop. Slip the knot into the tubing, and then the tubing over the back eye, cinching tight. You're golden!

Until recently all the commercial hobos were tied with too long of a stinger. Kinda the nature of the fly as marabou tied in at the front is only ever going to be so long
-
Nice flies flytrapper. Your bottom two on the left have the right trailer length, the ones on the right are getting pretty long and risk sticking deep. Unfortunately, that is one of the major downsides of the Hoh Boh Spey, to the point that a lot of the guiding outfits refuse to allow clients to use them.

Sorry, meant cutthroat fishing out west... Give the rivers a bit of time to warm up in the headwaters and you can have great days
-
Also, which I'm surprised no one has mentioned.. The Bow is a bitch at times. Once the east slopes open (on the 16th), do yourself a favor and head out there for the odd ego boost
-
Right. They probably should have had a little more anticipation of the weather and amount of water in there before they stocked it, but I'm sure the plans were in place for months and no way was anything going to change the release date

This Is Why Launches Are Shut Down
bcubed replied to ÜberFly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
From what I've gathered, its managed/owned by Fish and Wildlife as part of Alberta Environment and Parks. I think they've tried to offload it before, and no one wants to take responsibility for it (hard to blame them) Really, it should be turned into a provincial recreation area, and have someone paid to clean out that washroom and garbage. Bron, there is an exemption for launching watercraft in the public land regulation. -
Looks like they're all wearing the makeup for the big party.. crazy to see this clear and low water this early in June..

Shame to lose it, as it was a great event to keep people engaged with the rivers they love. Will be interesting to see where these rivers/creeks are in 10 years, like if Quark re-colonized with brookies -
If i remember right, it actually does better in low nutrient levels and cooler water, which is why there is less once you get to the bonnybrook and down

1. Odds are you will be hard pressed to find a guide that will give you one to three days, particularly if they know you'll be out competing with them in the next week. angling days are expensive and they are hard to come by, so they prefer to use them for week long guests. I think Skeena Spey might have this option now though. 2. Skeena Spey or Nicholas Dean may have some options for you that aren't full week trips. Again angling days are hard to come by, so you may end up being on the Skeena proper as they may not want to use up a Copper or Kalum day on a couple day trip. Contact Chad @ Nicholas Dean and Brian @ Skeena Spey to get some options. Ask them about where they'd take you as well. Nicholas Dean also does a week on the Skeena proper for cheap 3. A solid do-it-all rod is going to be something in the 12'6 to 13'6" 8 weight range. It will let you do everything, but being your first trip, odds are you'll just be skagit fishing anyway. Any heavier is a waste, any lighter may put you out of the game if not used to Spey fishing. The 8 is a good middle ground. While not cheap, the Sage One (or used Z axis) are great sticks with lots of love. 4. Worth bringing inflatable if you have it. I'd probably leave a drift boat at home as access is limited to a couple spots on the bulkley. If you're bringing an inflatable you'll want to put some thought to shuttles as its a lot harder then the Bow. And yes, jets do rule the bulkley but there are lots of runs..having an inflatable just opens a bit more water, and is definitely worth doing 5. Late Sept is prime time for both locations. Odds are you're going to lose 1-3 days to blown out water regardless of location, so be ready to move around and you'll be ok. Bulkley above telkwa is less prone to go out, but it is also the busiest stretch of water by far, especially if everything else is blown out. I would however recommend finding somewhere you like and trying to figure it out, even in marginal conditions for at least 3-4 days at a time. Chasing water conditions turns into a hell of a lot more driving then fishing occurring. marginal is better then being in your truck.

ya that was a pretty strange extended perry poke

ditch the switch, unless you're going to swing. A ten foot single hand rod will be easier to handle and set the hook you'll notice that was a single hand rod in that link, with a bobber...

That was always my favorite thing when guiding, the mid-river rises and clients point them out. Odds are the fish was 6" long. Just ignore them when they're out of your comfortable casting range. Odds are you will do way better if you focus on the jiggly water that is within 30 feet of the bank. If you really think the fish are at that 40 foot range, wade out. If it's too heavy to wade out to, odds are it's really not THAT good of a spot. Only little dudes can live out that far with consistency and do ok riding the current. You even have said that if you're having an issue with mends due to faster current, guess what, most fish aren't going to be out there. Or if they are, they're likely the ones you really don't want to waste your time with! Yes, there are times where you'll get the odd pig in the middle of the river, but I can promise that if you focus on 30 feet of line out, and never wading over your belly button, you will catch way more fish and with way more consistency. This will also force you to move around more. Covering more water will increase your fish numbers as you'll run into all the aggressive fish, rather then trying to go through 9 fly changes to finally get ONE fish in one spot. I can tell you the number of times I've had the 'man test' while wet wading in the summer is pretty well nil. I can also tell you the number of times where I have caught fish inside of guys after they have left. If you're REALLY committed to wanting to get that extra line mended and strictly nymph, I'd just go to a ten foot single hander, and then a line with a longer belly that you can lift and manipulate. I have 2 speys and a switch, and while I don't nymph much anymore, you couldn't pay me to use any of them with an indicator on, more for the inefficiency than style points..

Graves Bridge - No More Warnings, Just Fines
bcubed replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
A few feet up is what happened to cause the initial closure, and continuing to do it will turn into not having a launch available. A few feet is not driving well upstream of the bridge to get a better shot at the far riprap bank. -

Quite the attitude, hope people remember that next time you ask for assistance when you sink your boat...
