I've gotten more then one warning at bankside. It's posted as being shut at 8:00, regardless of the gate. Just park outside of the gates and walk in. Never had an issue doing that, ever.

Sounds like the pretty standard 'worm' being used now..

Bow River Flow Forecasts 2016
bcubed replied to fishteck's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
just wait to see how low they're gonna drop it....it's gonna be nasty. I predict mid 30 cms at the gauge -
Someone asked the size. I answered. It's a great event for TU and the community, and as mentioned it's not a monster one (and not sure why that is assumed to be a bad thing, smaller events bring more people together .) I've been there many times. Thanks for the great input though.

It's usually not that big of an event

Harvie Passage to Glenmore would be a sweet float.. a little puckering to start the day

Where are you planning on doing your fishing? That's the biggest difference. Skiffs do well in our winds, but hairier water they're not meant for.. I see skiffs as extra-low pro.. Good for the Bow and Mo for the most part, but i don't think they'd be a great idea for say the Elk or similar.

If You Are Going To Announce

If i recall right, you got the jet in 2010 or so. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong, but I recall you above deerfoot during the stonefly times in 2011-2012.... The city limit included Deerfoot by 2007. Feel free to look at the municipal maps here: https://data.calgary.ca/OpenData/Pages/DatasetListingAlphabetical.aspx So glad to hear you were breaking the law.
-
You know it's cheap from experience there dutchie? I also know of at least one jet owner who had a visit from the RCMP at his home when he was reported upstream of deerfoot... It's not a small deal

I'd actually encourage it, as watching rick try to run away from a dog into the river would undoubtably end up with a swim!

Warning Section Where Highwood Enters The Bow River
bcubed replied to bigbug's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Wonder how much of it is hype to keep the competition away..looking at recent photos, there seems to be plenty of people on both banks Hope the fish start heading up soon, give them a break. Nothing like a good 100km spawning trip to get away from the pressure in life.... -

But but but, the only spot to fish on the river is the mouth of the highwood, right?!? Especially in March:.. Suspect if this was located anywhere else on the river, it wouldn't get more then a cursory post. -

Maybe the dog likes rainbow trout more then people... Or feels bad that the ones getting ready to spawn are getting picked on -
... Why? It's already a no-bait river, how could banning a legal way of fishing change anything?

Bow River Access In The City Of Calgary
bcubed replied to fishteck's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Nothing about DFO, the city does not have ownership of the bed and the banks (anything under the high water mark) unless they have a disposition in place (see riprap on a bank). They might have overlap with their bylaw, but it doesn't matter unless they or AEP enforce it. Though DFO could get involved if you could prove harm to fish and fish habitat (and that gravel bar is certainly fish habitat in higher water years). Anyyyyway. Good to hear there is some motivation in regards to launches in the city. Something that needed to be done for a long time- 66 replies

Ohv Creek Crossing Regulations
bcubed replied to bigalcal's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
http://www.qp.alberta.ca/documents/Regs/2011_187.pdf For some reason everyone seems to think they can cross on any trail, but the way the regulation is written, that's only true if the trail is an approved trail under the regulation. Can't enter bed or bank with tires unless approved -

Bed and banks are covered equally under the Public Lands Act. That gravel bar is definitely within the Ordinary High Water mark- 66 replies

Ohv Abuse - Porcupine Hills

And for every one of them, there's 200 bitching and complaining on the Internet. He's right, it's pretty quiet when volunteer events with actual hands on work occur. -
The 2016 Sportfishing Regulation Available

The carburn park mention is new, i believe. Not surprising considering the connectivity between them following the flood. -
They're pretty long. I'd highly recommend you head to a shop and look at an intruder (or intruder-like) fly. Any of the shops can help you out with getting them right. It can be a bit hard to figure it out online. Too bad you missed the seminar I did a couple weeks ago! Checkout saltymykiss flies if you want to see some of mine

Flytrapper. Good first shots, however I'll make a comment on your hook rigging before you have a bad experience with a wild steelhead. Those are bound to hook fish deep, as the hooks are so far back from the actual hook of the fly. In addition, the way you have rigged the wire, you can't change out the hooks. Instead of threading the hook on there, you should push the loop through the eye of the hook, and over the shank. This will hold the hook in a better spot (not just wildly swinging), as well as allow you to change out hooks. Here's a good link: https://www.deneki.com/2015/11/stuart-foxall-on-tying-trailer-hook-loops/ Most of the flies you've been tying with a trailer, don't need them. They'd be better off on a tube, or just a regular hook. They're not big enough to worry about the lever-action that can occur with really large flies.

Graves used to be like Fish Creek prior to the flood. Shouldn't be an issue at Quarry and 17th, right now anyway- 66 replies

Think you misunderstood me, was more of a reference to the fact that where the 'good' winter runs are, most guys tend to start growing roots and never move.

try new zones... If you're not finding fish, it's more likely due to location then technique this time of year.. get those elbows high and dont be afraid of a little hip check action to get into the 'good' zones
