  1. I fished the Oldman/Gap area 40 days last summer and was never checked but I knew I was being watched. The CO/Streamwatch guy would stop at a viewpoint and watch with hi-powered binocs (I'm assuming) and see if you were de-barbing releasing etc. That's fine with me. It's a lot of river to cover and you can't expect him to walk the whole area. Checking me would be a waste of time. Time better spent on the lawbreakers.
  2. A few years ago I was on the Upper Oldman and parked by an unattended site flying a Union Jack. I was with an Irishman and he used there latrine but there was no tissue, he used the closest thing!! Ha! Ha!
  3. It can only get better! Unbelievable rain from 6AM-11 PM yesterday. I went to Coleman and returned to RHC around noon and the FTR was rough then! I betcha it's pretty messy right now!
  4. I have been down to the Oldman/Racehorse area for the last 5 weeks and I am getting madder and madder as I see these random campers taking over a campsite for the whole summer!! I know that this forum has beaten this topic over and over but it just pisses me off!! I feel that this Forest Reserve is for all Albertans and these people have no right to occupy these premiere spots longer than 14 days as the rules state!! I have then come up with a plan and I want some feedback from the members on this forum. I want to get a tent (s) and during the weekdays when they aren't there, pitch it in the middle of there site!! After all it's my land too!! I would place a notice saying that I think they are overstaying there right to that spot etc I think this could be fun, and I would like to see the reaction. Let me know if you have an old tent I could have. Also would a letter to Sustainable Resources with specific locations of these squatters get any reaction?
  5. I just spent Sun-Tues at Racehorse Campground. Unbelievable rain yesterday. I sat under the tarp and watched my tent sink! It's a mess!
  6. A fine example of "grabbing at straws"!!!! Sorry Dude...It's pay time!!
  7. Nice pix!!! Today (Tuesday) was great. The fish were doing what they are supposed to do...Rising and slamming Drakes and stoneflies!! crazy weather tho'!!
  8. No Bud Light Lime for weeks here in Calgary. Big Rock jumped on the bandwagon and had record sales with their Lime lager and filling in for BLL. As a former Big Rock rep in the old days it is sad that since they went public they have moved in to mainstream style beers and away from the craft beers. Back to Bud Light Lime, I betcha it has been stockpiled for weeks and will saturate the city during Stampede!!
  9. FTR .....north or south of Calgary?
  10. Wtll it fit on a zinger for those river "emergencies"?
  11. I wet wade 90% of the time. I mostly fish SW Alberta streams and usually stand on the bank or very shallow water, so I rarely get above the knees. I will be wet wading on June 16. Last year I had to use my waders only in the fall. As for the Bow..never fished it! Then again, I wear shorts all year round except for church weddings, funerals and Xmas staff party. 7 years and counting!! Oh.... and I cycle to work every day!! Those UPS guys are pussies! HaHa!
  12. If you are looking for a house or condo try www://vrbo.com ie"(Vacation Rentals By Owner). They have listings for condos worldwide. I used them for a condo in Maui and it was awesome!
  13. Don't forget the dog cone so you don't lick your stitches!!
  14. The last few years it hasn't been that bad. I may have to "bait fish" tho' SJW?!!
  15. I am anxiously awaiting June 16 as I am sure a lot of you are. I am planning on heading down to Racehorse Creek Campground on Monday, June 15 and doing a bit of scouting before wetting my fly the next day. I will be checking the Upper Oldman and the Gap area. What are your plans? I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
  16. Sirrius Classic, Soul, "70's and Hair Nation on the way!! I love to blare "Gone Fishin" by Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong when I enter Racehorse Campground!!
  17. I really hope some one will enforce the 2 week stay limit regulation. These areas are for ALL Albertans not just those yahoos that lay claim and hog the spot for the whole summer!! I have heard that they are enforcing it more. It's about time!!
  18. Thanks all for your feedback. I would hate to waste a CO's time! I was also thinking about camping at Racehorse Creek "pre-season" and checking out how the river direction may have changed over the winter down near the Gap. I would probably need my waders to cross some sections. That may require some explaining if I encountered a CO. I'll wait until after May long when they are bored!!
  19. I work with a few friends that want to learn how to fly fish. We are going up to the Waiporous area for the long weekend and I thought it would be great chance to teach them how to cast. Is it illegal to practice casting on a closed river? We would just have a line and a leader and a piece of yarn. I assume it probably is, but I just wanted to check. I can't wait 'til June 16!!
  20. Try Montreal! Drivers are not allowed to turn right on a red light on the "Island"of Montreal. They are allowed throughout the whole province....but not Montreal!!
  21. Ya gotta check out the band "Broken Toyz" at Morgan's Pub in Calgary Tuesday nites for your '80's metal fix. The drummer filled in for Tommy Lee a few years ago. And yes...they play "Home Sweet Home"
