  1. Thanks for the replies guys... Muha, I'd like to say a trip to the foothills would be priority #1, but with a newborn I'm stuck to 2 hour or less sessions. So the 5 min drive to the bow, or 5 min walk with a belly boat to the lake is appealing to me. Got a question for ya though, Do the 2 hr boating restrictions apply to your personal watercrafts? ie. A belly boat or a canoe. Also, the $900 a year is for "shore access", do you know what that entails? It's not very clear on their site. BA, Good tips. We were meeting with the builder to discuss financing, sale of our current home, moving, etc. I'm thinking if we decide to finance with them it would lock us into a good rate for a long time , including the time it takes to build the place. We're looking at a possession date in September, so 5 months, which would work very well with our work schedules. As for the commute, it's 28ish minutes from Evergreen right now, so moving there would actually be faster to get to work down deerfoot at during my commute times (25ish mins at earlier times than the rush hours).
  2. I'm looking at building a house in Auburn Bay and I'm just wondering what other people/anglers think of the community. Seems like it has it all if you don't mind being far from downtown!
  3. I have owned (and lost) many pairs of Oakley polarized and prescription polarized sunglasses. They are fantastic in my opinion. I've tried a few different colours but have found the "bronze polarized" coloured lens works the best.
  4. Link the video!
  5. Better yet, just follow this guide for all those sea dwellers! http://www.oceanwise.ca/seafood Read the packages of seafood as well.. I picked up some salmon burgs the other day and dropped them once I saw they came all the way from CHINA!!!
  6. The new S5 is waterproof and dustproof too if you're lookin
  7. Ah yes... The stinky fishing shirt
  8. I'm also looking for new tires, but I'm not sure if I'd need AT... I mostly drive in the city and then out to fishing spots on the weekend. Also, if my 4runner is rated for 265/65-17 sized tires.. I probably shouldn't purchase a bigger tire right?
  9. Very interesting group of opinions guys! I'm sure I fall into the "couldn't tell the difference" category as I've been fly feeshing for a little over a year. I mostly nymph and streamer fish because I just can't ever seem to get the dry fly correct when there are snouts. As most of you say, the 9ft 6w BVK is a good rod for those who aren't proficient with casting, and chose to nymph or streamer. Perhaps one day I will make the step to the next level, but for now my setup sounds to be the best for me! Thanks for the input guys, ended up being a great discussion!! Yes, I still prefer to step on your TFO rod.. The sage warranty was too much of a hassle.
  10. This past summer I made a trip out to Vancouver Island for a wedding and snuck in some fishing. I was horribly skunked in 3 days of fishing, which really bummed me out because I was dying to catch a sea-run cutty or salmon.. (next time ). Anyway, I stopped in to pick up some flies and chatted with the gents from Nile Creek fly shop for about an hour. Some of you may have met Courtney over the years, and without me speaking a word he greeted me with, "Let me guess, you're an Albertan, and you want to catch some salmon out here". I laughed and confirmed I was from Alberta and would love to catch some salmon. Then he said, "..and let me guess, you brought your TFO rod over and you love the stinkin' thing"! I replied yes again, and we went into depth about rods, casting, etc., etc., etc. I know Courtney pops his head in here from time to time, but I wanted to get some Albertan opinions on TFO rods. I fish with a TFO BVK and it feels like a nice rod to me, but I'm less than 2 years into it, and have only cast with 2 other brands in my short time. I gotta say, having the warehouse in Calgary warranty repairs/replacements is really nice, especially for those clumsy folks. (just look at my contributions to the lost and found section) Do people really think they're clunky and inaccurate to cast? Is it a hate on the korean machine made process?
  11. Never used Fourex? What is it? Luckily latex only needs to last a few minutes heheheh
  12. Yup, the g4z's are awesome. I've had mine for a year, and they're comfy in the winter and comfy in the summer! Edit: I have the 2012 Model.. I think they've improved some of the waterproofing on the pockets.. I didn't know the chest pockets were not waterproof.. found out the hard way with a cell phone. Also, I wish there was an inside chest pocket for valuables.
  13. Right on! Nice ones
  14. Cool! Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, let's grab a Guinness and share fishing stories... I'm a big fan of the guys at Fish Tales in the South.. They don't call themselves Calgary's Friendliest Fly Shop for no reason!
  15. That was a crazy deadline day!
  16. I was in your boat a little over a year ago wondering how to fish streamers.. All I can say is have patience! Over a year later and I still haven't caught a fish on a streamer!
  17. Haha, what kind of guy are you Don? Obviously not a Ford client
  18. Yup, he labeled it "fly lure tying materials"
  19. As an update, the package took quite a while to get through customs, but it came! He just plucked some of the nicer feathers from the bird, put them in an air-tight bag and shipped them to me. Customs opened up and went through the bag, but it seems to have all made it!
  20. Awesome! Looks like a plant off the set of Star Trek - The Original Series
  21. Hopefully we are allowed more than one entry.. Tied up an ant and a trico. 12 Foam Ant.. Foam, saddle hackle, thread, hook 20 Al's Trico.. Black antron dubbing, grizzly hackle, thread, hook
  22. Thanks.. Thought the lead counted as well
  23. Does it count if someone already posted this pattern? Oh well, I only have a limited number of flies in my young arsenal...
