  1. You need a non-resident fresh water licence. You can get a full year, 8-day or even a 3 day I think. The yearly licence is $55 plus tax. You can buy it online. Vaseux lake is just north of Oliver. The river/channel runs out the south end of Vaseux toward Oliver. Lots of bass, squawfish (pikeminnow), and some giant carp in Vaseux. Big bass in Osoyoos as well. You can use big dries or bigger streamers. I even had a great evening of fishing dry mayflies where the river leaves lake one night.
  2. This is the 4th rod that I have heard about breaking on the first trip. I think they might be a little brittle...
  3. I've never seen him there Brian
  4. The minnows were right up against the shoreline in less than 10" of water. I think it might be scary to be a minnow outside the cattail rim around the lake. I will have to find my meat lines and drag out some bigger flies. I'm always open to trying new productive ways to fool fat fish.
  5. I'm not sure when I'm going next. Hopefully the water doesn't get too warm this week. Some of the fish needed a long time resting before you could let them go. I imagine the oxygen levels are getting lower at the surface. Good to hear you had a great weekend a while ago. I've never fished with streamers or a sinking line there. Maybe I should try some more techniques. They are exceptional fish. Only one fish had a genetically flawed peduncle.
  6. I got one that was about 27" and approaching 9lb. It was a big humpback fish...amazing (sorry on pic). Most of the ones I got on Friday were the 24-25" guys. On Thursday I saw quite a few 21-24". I suck catching fish under the surface...only 2 for me. I guess I'm stuck fishing with dries. I saw lots of adult damsels and dragons on Friday. Maybe those nymphs are the way to fool these fish.
  7. Ya Harry that was me in the Fish cat on Friday. I guess I should take my hat off to show off my shiny head. Sorry I didn't bring the dog to play with you this time. The dry fly fishing was awesome in the morning and then things go dead later in the day. I got 20 Thur and 15 on Friday. I was just packing up when Grant Elliott and the Hutts brought the cows in. Grant was well lubricated as he acted as trail boss for the boys. Dean and a buddy were out Thursday night but I think they only got one on a big streamer. The fish are getting smarter for sure. It was only my second trip out as well and water is getting warm fast. The algae is coming on as well. Maybe fishing in the dark is a good idea.
  8. Now that's a nice healthy fish... good show
  9. If you check the stocking record for lakes in BC they will tell you what strain of fish were added to the lake.
  10. Awesome fish Frank. Your smile says a lot. Congrats on a fine trophy.
  11. Great shots Jeff. Love the peach spots on those Bull too!
  12. Hey Jared...that's just a couple of 35 dry fly eating pigs. Elliott's pond is almost as good as Sundance. I think I may have to take a couple more days off next week. It was frustrating yesterday having huge fish swirl around you while you are trying to reel the fat pig on your line. These fish take too long to land. You should see the bigger ones!!! I need a net/landing boy to pass the rod off to so I can hook another one . It was great fish whoring. Harry was out today. I'm sure he will have some great stories as well.
  13. Hey Rick, maybe we should go tomorrow morning....PM me. I think my wrist is almost recovered from the last couple of days of pond fishing. I know stocked pigs don't count, but man I was giggling like a school girl watching these things attack my dry.

    Whatsa Pro?

Pseudonym, please feel free to add your opinions. You've probably been fly fishing longer than most of these guys have been alive. Your wisdom will certainly help lots of folks.
  15. Dry fly fishing sucks
  16. Beautiful, thanks for sharing
  17. Parks won't allow Marl Lake to be stocked. They are protecting the "fragile" ecosystem around the lake from you riparian-mashing fishermen. Shame though because it is loaded with invertebrates. It might not be deep enough to make it through the winter anyway.
  18. Good show Harry. Another awesome adventure complete with some fine fish.
  19. I'm not sure if they own the streambed, but if not, you can still get charged with trespassing once you step out of the water onto their land. Search out the landowner and try to have a civil conversation with them. Most likely no communication in the past has led to poor relations with fishermen. A little respect can go a long way.
  20. It might have something to do with guys netting them, rolling them in the boat for a while, taking a picture of their trophy and tossing them back in. I guess the fish just can't hold their breath for 3-4 minutes. Hopefully folks will learn over time as they see their fish belly up. We need educated folks like yourself bhurt to offer suggestions to the less experienced on the best way to release swimming pigs.
  21. They used to close it for a week after stocking...now there is no closure.
  22. Some kids brought a bucket full to the lake over 10 years ago. Since then it has been a breeding bonanza bhurt, the big fish really do put a strain on the rod. I believe they are triploids so the females will stay chrome next spring. Sundancefisher and I have been educating them for a month now. Great fun to catch fish shaped like rugby balls.

    May Pics

Warm water spewing from Coal plant at Wab. Great shots Ayr
  24. There is some perch is the system...they are in the stream part of the display hiding under the bridge. Bass pro came to Sundance in the winter and collected a whole bunch of perch to condition the system prior to putting trout in. The guy recently told me they came into the store one morning and the pike had half a 20" Brown sticking out of his face.
  25. I think you'll get a $13 line
