  1. I made mine out of a rubbermaid basket. Just added a belt, notches to hold the rod, and some anti-tangling posts on the bottom. Way cooler than the Orvis model.
  2. I use one when lake fishing from a boat. Saves line from getting stepped on when you are constantly changing length of casts.
  3. The pride is overflowing.... I thought I might raise a response from our favorite Texan. We were just glad you weren't there to compete against. Now Jared has a big trophy that can be passed around for the best fish down at the river. It can be the weekly angling award
  4. I had the honor of fishing beside the coolest guy in Chapparal (and some say the best looking) today at the Sundance perch tourney. He masterfully hauled in the biggest perch and took home the biggest trophy. It was a teaching experience for me that has given me a desire to improve my angling skills and seek him out as a mentor. Troutlover...I rename you THE PERCHKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Great shots. Did you guys see a grizz on the way in? Sure is a lot of bear sign around that pond.
  6. It's great to FEEL the nuances of a softer/slower rod rather than just hucking line with a broomstick. Isn't that what a small rod is all about?
  7. The US was faster, picked up a way more loose pucks and had more quality chances. I think Canada set a record for the number of give aways in an important game. We were lucky to come away with a win. Canada didn't start to push until the last half of the third period. I hope the US loses so we don't see them again.
  8. Visually stunning...great imagination in the forest
  9. little creek surprise
  10. It's not long, but it sure is thick....
  11. That guy is going to be great at writing grant proposals!
  12. Have a look here http://www.qisley.redearthcreek.com/Video.htm Fish cop and Fish tech make a movie. Jay and I worked a couple of summers on the Dogpound. 14. Pleasure to watch those folks cast...smooth and accurate....results in fine fish.
  15. There is a good question...What are the parks for? Should they be pristine, untouched living museums? Do we need to get them back to the state they were 500 (pick a number) years ago? If so, we need to spend billions to try and reclaim them. I think there is more important places to spend our tax money. It is probably a good idea to try and limit importing new invasive species to the park, but the effort to return things to somewhere near a baseline shouldn't be that high a priority when you consider the state of how many people exist in our country.
  16. I think the real question is.... Do we really need/want to the spend the time and money to try and return ecosystems to the state they were in 200 years ago? Is that important enough to warrant the huge expense? Fishing is only a small part of the equation...what about the invertebrates and plants? Personally I don't think it is worth the effort
  17. Water temp...The trout farm is situated along a gravel plain with a huge flow of ground water that flows through irrigation-like ditches. I would imagine the water temps are quite stable and low for the most part. I think there is another cause in this case.
  18. Her nose is curled around into her mouth. The genes didn't get expressed right. It will be interesting to see how good of a hunter she is. It might be hard to hook her with a tiny dry in May. I will do my best. Hey Jeff, that looks like a Pennask fish
  19. Guess who I caught today
  20. Good show Frank. Looks like a place to get lost for a month/year or two. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
  21. Great post Rick. I just spent the afternoon fishing with a guy who's body is full of tumors coming from the prostrate. I was thinking of you today. In addition, I fished all day with my Dad's rod. It was a great day full of memories, enjoying the present and looking forward to paradise.
  22. I had the opportunity to take a fellow out today that is battling over 20 tumors. It was a pleasure to take such a fine gentlemen fishing. He had a blast, laughed lots and left with a big smile. Mission accomplished!
  23. Took my Dad's 1948 bamboo rod out today. This was the rod I learned to fish with back when I was a boy running the banks of the Highwood. Great fun casting some history... Next victim
  24. Ice for 10 min, then take ice off for 20 min. Ice on again for 10min. It appears it is the cooling down that helps with the inflammation. Eat some ibuprofen. I'm not sure heat is recommended for inflammation.
  25. Tofu Suzuki is my hero. I have his poster in my bedroom.
