  1. Great shots. Can I have the elk's address?
  2. Dude, Sometimes the moneychangers need their tables flipped to get the message across. This "correction" was too strong...but something needed to be straightened out.
  3. Seems like Mr Ego the bully got a bit of a western education...a little too much of an education mind you. Interesting to see how his manners are next time.
  4. Buddy sent photo from the far east. Mouse for lunch for this Brookie
  5. Water flow: Bow->Macgregor->Travers->Little Bow->Badger
  6. Pkk...I have a co-worker who says something similar about Chinook and Coho...they are all made into dog food at their house. I guess everyone's tastes are different.
  7. First time to the beach on the east side of the Island. The streams are very low and warm this year and the salmon were not showing themselves. Finally a few fish showed up cruising off the beach and I was able to get a fly in front of one. Very respectable fight for a fish of around 4lb and I got to see quite a bit of backing. I could see beach fishing getting pretty addictive. Hopefully nothing has happened to the fish and they continue to show up in the days ahead. Not a bad meal on the BBQ either
  8. Perch like scuds and boatmen as well
  9. Wow, that's fancy. I just clip my hemostats to my fly and let 'er sink. You hi-tec guys have all the advantages
  10. We keep losing bank and big trees with these floods. The river is getting wider and shallower
  11. Kind of like a gravel parking lot. Tons of rocks and trees up on the pasture on the south side of the river as well
  12. Stuff in the tanks was not very explosive (not jet fuel)...actually really hard to ignite even with a torch. Still is great news that none of it ended up in the water The gravel under the base of the pillar washed away causing it to shift....could not have been seen by anyone. Hadn't happen for 100 years. I really doubt anyone could have safely checked the base underwater considering the current speed and visibility. Good ending to a crappy situation. Pretty sure that bridge will not be replaced.
  13. Can a person get to this campground or is Hwy 66 closed?
  14. I think the houses below Cranston may actually be OK. It was hard to see going across the extender bridge, but I think they made it through. The pasture south of the bridge on the east side of the river is now a moving lake however
  15. Defienbaker will get a fresh stocking from the Bow
  16. Northbound Crowchild over the Bow is closed, had to re-route to 14St bridge. The river is an awesome, boiling mess. Never been nervous on a bridge before. Hopefully the engineers did their homework right:)
  17. Just ignore my response. Bad advice I guess that is not a good description, and not correct form. Rod tip not following a perfectly straight line only on back cast. I tend to use this cast when using a floating line (not a sink tip) and a long leader. Very effective for me when using a 9-10ft leader and a big, heavy fly.
  18. I just use a few feet of 12 or 15lb Maxima. I've found adding a little oval arc on the back cast helps (instead of straight back). Helps swing the weight of the streamer out to the side a bit. Helpful if casting big, heavy flies.
  19. Always be willing to experiment with stripping. Starting slow is a good place to start...but don't get stuck there. Hungry/aggressive fish will chase things down at speed (some bugs can move very quickly). Additionally you can try quick strips with pauses of various duration.
  20. Try fishing at about 10ft. I would try a leech on top and a chironomid (or some other small nymph) under it. If you see fish taking emergers at the surface move your flies up. You can also try fishing without an indicator at the surface with dries, emergers and small nymphs.
  21. Great post FHD. Couldn't agree more. Hockey is a great game, it shouldn't be about looking for opportunities to hurt someone else or to "win anyway you can". It seems so many positives available from the game are being lost to a culture that wants to exalt self. If you have to win by cheating or by "taking out" the other teams stars, how much real value is there in the victory? The lack of respect you speak of is spreading across the land like a plague. Hitting is part of the game, its too bad the "intent to injure" part is growing so common.
  22. Handling clarification....just hooking and fighting the fish causes stress(cortisone levels elevate), even without actually touching the fish. When the fish start getting hooked enough times there will be repercussions. It appears most of the infected fish are observed in high-density angler areas. To me, that looks like there is a link. There are definitely more anglers these days, and more anglers who are successful. There will certainly be a number of factors working together to get the problem to mortality. Warmer water temperatures/lower flow certainly are a factor as disease agents can reproduce much quicker at higher temps. Fungus has always been apparent post-spawn in the browns. Now it appears there is more mortality happening. In my experience I have found that fungal infection is often a secondary infection to bacteria. It will be interesting to see how the fish respond over time with our growing population. Rainbows spawning in the cold spring water far away from us hook chuckers are spared a bunch of these factors.
  23. I'm with Brent...way more fish handling going on....more stress to the fish....immunocompromised....disease gets a foothold
  24. This time of year the caddis are starting to swim up in good numbers and fish get pretty keyed into those events. I think it's pretty hard to simulate the action of the pupae. Nice to see the fishing eating and not playing with you....never frustrating.....Lots of times you will see the that the fish are coming up at speed, not slowly sipping.
