  1. Thanks for the comments Bailey - I was staying in San Pedro (Ambergris) monger - bonefish are a strong fish and even the small ones I was catching took me into my backing.
  2. I was in Belize for about 2 weeks at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept. I got home about a week ago. While I was down there I did some fly fishing. I did a bunch of fly fishing right from the dock of the place I was staying at and did a few days of flats/lagoon fishing looking for bonefish, tarpon and permit. Here are some pictures of fish I caught from the docks, they are not big but they were still fun to catch: - a cuda tried to eat this guy: Went out 2 days with a guide to look mostly for bonefish. I did see tarpon and Permit, I never got close to catching either but my friend who I was in Belize with caught about a 30 lb tarpon and just missed a Permit for the grand slam. Here are some pictures of my bonefishing experience: I was also able to catch a few cuda's. I have to say I had the most fun with them, here is a picture with one of my cuda's, the other I caught was about the same size: Something else "fish" related was that I got to swim with a bunch of nurse sharks, I even got to hold one: I had a blast in Belize. It was my first time doing any salt water fly fishing (I only started fly fishing a few months ago). I found the wind to be a bit tricky but I was still able to have fun and catch fish. I think in the future I will look to do more salt water fly fishing. Cheers Connie
  3. Hey, I am going to Belize in a few weeks to fish and hang out. On my own I will be looking to catch bonefish and maybe just maybe I might find a Permit. I will take a guide to go for Tarpon. Anyways what I am wondering is how important is fly colour when fishing for bonefish and other saltwater fish in Belize. I am familar with what patterns I should take with me but I am not really sure what colours of flys to take with me. Can anyone make some recommendations? Thanks Connie
  4. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will be using this is salt water so I'm wondering how people who use these types of cameras in salt water take care of them? If you rinse them after having them in salt water does it help to keep them working longer?
  5. Hi, Just wondering if anyone could suggest a good underwater camera for taking fish pictures. I have seen some cool underwater pictures on this forum and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good camera. I am going to Belize in a few weeks and am looking to take a good underwater camera so I can take pictures of the cool fish I catch as well as underwater pictures while I am snorkling. Suggestions are appreciated Thanks Connie

Pretty fish! Thanks for sharing Connie
  7. Thanks for the reply. I have been thinking a 7-8wt. Can a 7-8wt be a good nymphing rod too?
  8. Hi, I am pretty new to fly fishing but with me getting into it my Dad has also started to take a liking to it. I currently have a Sage Flight 5wt and a TFO BVK II (I think it is a number 2) reel. What I am wondering is what would be a good second setup to have? My Dad wants to buy something that I don't already have but that he could get use of in the bow as well. Please let me know your thoughts Cheers Connie
  9. haha yeah I did say "stupid fish" after I hooked him and he ran right into a bunch of rocks and a big log, snagging me up and causing me to lose the fish and my gear (nymph and SJW). I caught this one in the same spot but I didn't let this guy run into the rocks and logs. I'm too used to salmon fishing where you just let the fish run. I see fishing around logs and rocks in a river is much different, good skill to learn.
  10. Thanks for all of the comments guys I caught him nymphing on a single small Blue Winged Olive Hope to catch many more
  11. Hey, Last night I caught my first Bow River Trout, a nice Brown. I just started fly fishing, I took a casting course through Fish Tales and just bought my own gear last friday. I have also been watching a number of YouTube videos for tips on nymphing and other fly fishing techniques. Before last night I had been out fishing twice with no luck. I am very happy with my first catch from the Bow River. Tight Lines, Connie
  12. Hello, I am not new to fishing but I am brand new to fly fishing. I have lived in Calgary my entire life but have never taken advantage of the fishing around here until now. I am just getting started and I have a lot to learn but I am eager. I tried fishing by the bridge down from Burnco off of Glenmore on the weekend but I had no luck. I did see a few fish rise but did not catch anything. I tried nymphing and a dry fly. What I am wondering is if anyone could let me know about any nice fishing spots within the city or close to Calgary that I could get to after work or for a few hrs on the weekend. Also I would be more than happy to fish with someone in order to learn a thing or two. Thanks for reading and please let me know if you have any suggestions Connie
