  1. Please have your say! This will be a big deal to get some actual infrastructure in place on our river https://talkaep.alberta.ca/bow-river-access-plan

    Waders

have you tried on simms? They have the best fitting legs out there, as they're actually articulated and true to form, rather then the ol' straight leg ones you'll see on pretty well every other wader. If you're having too much material, you have the wrong size..
  3. lots of cold in june means more cold in august... Is this where i insert something regarding trolling?
  4. Now in the Red Deer Drainage... http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animals/aquatic-animals/diseases/reportable/whirling-disease/alberta-2017/eng/1492020203162/1492020203648 Government is taking some strides http://globalnews.ca/news/3548003/alberta-opening-first-new-whirling-disease-laboratory/
  5. I've read it and have followed it pretty closely. Just saying that actually having a stance and a letter provided to the government showing that stance will go a lot further then 'keeping a watchful eye'.
  6. Has Bow River Trout prepared a statement, or a letter, in regards to this development? Not sure what 'keeping an eye' will do
  7. 250k is the issue. That's a terrible quality photo, so why it's recommended to host off the site
  8. I think this is very telling. It's started, but a lot left to go http://www.environment.alberta.ca/apps/basins/DisplayData.aspx?Type=Figure&BasinID=14&DataType=4&StationID=TISL http://www.environment.alberta.ca/apps/basins/DisplayData.aspx?Type=Figure&BasinID=14&DataType=4&StationID=SUNS
  9. Amazes me how many people seem to have forgotten what runoff normally is! I know it's been a couple years, but June has long been a write off.. stoneflies on the Bow used to equal stampede week and cutties didn't start till July. We've been having a screwy river the last three years (let alone the flood)... excited for something 'normal'! Dear god let them look up again (or at least more consistently)
  10. ya i'd be hard pressed to say 6" this morning on my bike ride, but i didn't go stick a toe in
  11. ...well, that didnt take long. http://globalnews.ca/news/3469462/close-call-for-2-men-rafting-on-bow-river-in-calgary/
  12. well..if you can sink a boat going into policemens... I know where i'm gonna take up snorkeling to find gear
  13. I want to see why it flipped... good swiftwater swim after!
  14. ya dropbox has a wierd hosting thing
  15. Any update on the boat?
  16. 100 feet downstream of the riprap back eddy, exact same spot as the pre-pre-2013 launch (not the terrible 90 degree spot). Clearing in the trees, perfect launch. Unfortunately most people are parking in front of it. Last year it looked like someone was trying to flag it off to stop people parking and no one listened Dropped pin near Foothills No. 31, AB https://goo.gl/maps/jBkzFEbzuUo That road is private
  17. Really, if someone put up signs and indicated the downstream spot so people would stop parking there, would solve a lot. I used that to launch for the last two years, and its way easier to get in and out of.. people just keeping parking in the way as it's become the defacto parking lot
  18. People. If you're unsure of your ability to get into Policemens safely, kick the rest of your group out at the top and make them walk down. A boat with just a rower in it is a joke to maneuver.. we're still at a relatively low level, it's just going to get bigger.. if you're really unsure, don't float into police! Hopefully they get their boat back, will be curious to see how a clacka does in comparison to an aluminum.
  19. monger, your PM box is full
  20. Think the biggest issue is that the rope is attached to a set point (assuming you're using the ez-pull system, with a pulley @ the anchor). It twists more in the water from what i've seen, so seems to go along with it. I'm all about climbing ropes for it now. Even if they twist, they're still fine with running through the line, and you can get a decent one cheap from Calgary Climbing Centre (or at least used to be able to). Also, are you coiling or looping your rope at the end of the day. Looping will add more twists unless you unloop it at the start of the day, versus coiling where the rope can come off straight
  21. Just call the poaching line if you're seeing them do this. If there's a CO around they'll come by and deal with it.
  22. Oldman watershed declared infected: http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/whirling-disease-found-in-oldman-river
  23. Almost all of my skagit heads have their loops toast, and are otherwise in fine shape. Too much dredging and pulling on bottom I guess... sticking to dries would help!
  24. Ouch. Well glad it worked out. Did you get a ride out from another jet or have to walk out? Boat seems ok otherwise? Thankfully it happened on the Bow, and that you're ok. Not a lot of rivers would let someone walk from that. Hope people read this and use it as a learning experience
  25. Damn nick. Cool to see the improvement. That would get smashed!
