  1. I had always used the large size (1") without any problems, especially when using a triple rig with a very heavy SJW. Then I switched to the medium size (3/4") and was surprised that it works great with the same heavy rig!! I would use the large in very fast water, from now on and stick with the medium for everything else. P
  2. Anyone know where I can get some "quality" lawn chair cushions (or have some made)? Thanks, Peter
  3. I'm not sure on the "shortness" of the taper of either of these lines, but SA GPX and Head Start both are a half a wt heavier. I was looking at a rio line (the trout specific line - I think) and it had quite a short taper, (but not the 1/2 wt heavier). Hope this info helped... P
  4. I'd have to disagree with the camp (where you want), hunt, live off the land part of that. . Just my opinion though... Potentially huge problems with that, as well (with the many irresponsible types - which unfortunately is quite a few)!! P
  5. Hear, hear! But be respectful (i.e. with garbage and human waste I'm seeing more and more in the backcountry!!) P
  6. Welcome HB (and friend)! You get all that right here (though you'll have to practice on your own or come out with someone on the board)! We're a wealth of knowledge and information (and we try to have a little fun inbetween)! Tight lines! Cheers, Peter
  7. Hence my previous comment about being 50 - 100 years too late . There should never have been a town in BNP, that's what screwed things up in the first place! P
  8. Thats another issue! They restricted Mtn bikes, but still allow horses!! Which chew up trails more?! I'd say horses!! P
  9. Absolutely! I was just Überconfused and curious. Asking for clarification! P
  10. Yes i'm fully aware but didn't know if it was a mistake as it was a LONG time ago and he's just posting it now (also realize he's a newbie!)! P
  11. Did you catch it this year or last year?! P
  12. Should have happened 50 - 100 years ago... A little too late!
  13. Yup exactly the same thing happened to me... Worked lilke a charm!!
  14. Maybe you computer savvy types could provide some tips on proper searching - using quotes or *'s, etc. to help people narrow their search parameters?!
  15. Exaxctly! And you didn't hear him whining about a sore tummy!!
  16. Maybe you should have eaten at MacDonald's on the way to the hill!! P quote name='rickr' date='Apr 4 2009, 09:41 PM' post='81795'] To add insult to injury, it seems as I've gotten older I've become more susceptible to motion sickness (maybe I'll tell a couple of seasickness stories one day. My friends back home call me the human chum line). Flat light combined with bumpy skiing brings on a feeling very similar to seasickness. It started to hit me on the lift up for the second run. I thought a couple of runs on groomers would cure me, but it turned out that I was too dizzy and nauseated to continue. In fact, it took me around 1/2 an hour to make my way down on the groomers from the top of the 1st chair. I was one sick puppy. I did manage to fight off the urge to puke, but probably should have just went with it. By the time I got back to the lodge I was drenched in sweat. Took 4 hrs to recover and ski a bit in the afternoon(following my nap from 12 to 1). I had never felt so old. As I sat in the lodge by myself, I actually started to wonder if my best years truly were behind me. I mean I can't ski flat light without getting sick for *&^% sake.
  17. Sadly, a lot of people in Canada do... P
  18. Dustin, If you are not in a rush, checkout Costco.com (US Costco site) for a killer deal on a Snowbee bags combo pack (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11249876&search=snowbee&Mo=0&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D =snowbee&Ntt=snowbee&No=0&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1). To make it worth while, I think you would have to have someone bring it up as opposed to sending it up vis USPS or UPS, etc. I'm pretty sure that no dealer could match the total cost including exchange- though shipping, etc. not included) at least that's what my source said when he checked the price list. I'm sure you could sell off the bags that you are not interested in keeping. P
  19. Nigel, Now that we've hooked up several times now... I've been able to decrease the distance travelled and dramatically increased the landing ratio! 3rd week of June - secret spot, mark it on your calendar!! P Cheers
  20. I know a lot of cycling tourers that use hammocks as all you need is 2 trees and a tarp - very efficient, but the problem I have with the concept is sleeping on one's side, which I like to do... Also, if you have back problems, probably not going to do your back any good... Seems both practical and impractical at the same time... P
  21. I know where you are and I would agree! Hiking the ridge at Bridger rocks, though last time I was there ('93) I didn't... Backcountry has been dicey (90% of the deaths have been sledders) though I did the (little) Wapta tour this weekend (http://dowclimbing.com/WaptaIcefields.html). Avi conditions weren't good when we went in, but that was based on a weather system that didn't make it past calgary so they avi conds ended up being ok. Peter
  22. I earn my turns in the backcountry! I find it hard to justify over $70 to ski at a local resort. P
  23. Day hike or backpack?! Day hike 15 or 16 km (one direction), any more then that and you spend too much time hiking and not enough time enjoying the area you are hiking (fishing) to. Of course it depends on the terrain as well. Backpacking was 27 km one direction (about my limit). P
