  1. Gang, The Okanagan River Channel goes behind my parent's-in-law's property in Oliver and we were thinking of going to visit next week. Anyone have info on this river/channel? I understand there are bass and some other species (limited detailed info on the web)... Anyone have any specifics? I have never fished for bass... Also, what type of license is required? Thanks in advance, Peter and Deb
  2. For the Jumping Pound, remember that a lot of the access points are on private land so you need to get permission! P
  3. Public or private I'm pretty sure you need a fish harboring license to transport and hold fish... Try contacting the private hatcheries... I'm sure Sun will give you some of his perch, but they are a little aggressive and you might be having bonking events in a few years as well!! Get him to stock some trips!! P
  4. I wanna see the photos of Brent and Caitlin with those monsters, not some no name guy!! P
  5. Hmmm... When did Texas become it's own country?! Shouldn't your title read, "An Irishman, A Canadian, And An AMERICAN"?! <--poke--< LoL Glad you guys got into some fish in some beautiful country!! P
  6. Yeah, yeah, Matt!! I was a Lifeguard and Water Safety instructor to over 12 years in both Canada and in the United States... You cannot give people enough reminders of doing such a simple thing. Drownings are 99% preventable!! P P.S BTW, you're welcome!!
  7. Fred, High water or not, whatever you decide, please wear a PFD!!! P
  8. Yeah... Quarry Lake!! Wedge Pond!! LoL P
  9. If you want to check mine out before hand, lemme know you can come over and see it with all the modifications... Peter
  10. I'm going on to my 3rd season with mine... It's no drift boat or white water raft (please understand that - and WEAR your PFD - NO QUESTION!!!), but with that being said, it's WAY better then any Canadian Tire special!!! It works well for the Bow and the lakes around Calgary (lower K, Gap, Grotto, etc!)! A small anchor is also a necessity, but you can make one of those easy enough.
  11. Yes, the Mariner is the larger version. Which ever you decide, make sure it's the one with removable/replaceable oar locks as you definitely need to upgrade those, as well as the oars (the same company makes a version with a solid shaft - canadian tire sells them for like $20). I can tell /show you more on the oar locks if and when. Oh, and with either version, you won't be getting 3 people fishing - one on the oars and one casting (plus gear) is the best you will be able to do! And no studded wading boots!! P
  12. Two cars or have someone pick you up at the spot you take out at (don't leave your keys in the car at the put in - I have a story about that!!)... Of course one of the sponsors of the site is Bow River Shuttles (call Michelle) she'll take good care of you! P
  13. A few years ago (like 4 or 5) I think it was around $200 (I know, that's why they went like stink!)... I know the Costco USA site had them listed... Not sure who else carries them locally, but you could always call the company... See you on the water! P
  14. This is the one I use (it's predecessor, actually - a tad bit smaller - Costco had them for cheap a few years back and they were gone in a week!) http://www.intexcorp.com/boats_marine_seahawk_II.html Anyway, I upgraded the oar locks (nickel plated eye bolts with nylon nuts), oars and made some bench seats... A beaver board for the floor (as someone previously mentioned), would be the *hit - great idea!! P
  15. Was up at Quarry today with CDone after striking out at lower K lake... Got into a few fish, but those Grayling are sure elusive... P
  16. Yes, and the fact that Calgary water is very "hard" to begin with. P
  17. Absolutely!! But what are you going to do on those very late evening hatches! P
  18. Hey sallinger, welcome! Yeah there are fish to be had, but it is much more of a challenge, for sure (dam fluctuations and how that relates to aquatic life)... Run off is going to be starting soon, if not already up there... Lots of whities and the odd brown and rainbow even fewer bullies and cutts and brookies. Flashback anything, small pt nymphs and gr hares ear have all produced for me in the past (funny how the whities will hit your strike indicator often, as well). Pretty good dry hopper/dropper action in the later summer! Tight lines and let us know how you do... Cheers, Peter
  19. Jack, Great tip!! Question... How does this set up cast (and do you need to adjust your stroke in any way, shape or form)?! Cheers, Peter
  20. Yeah the whole idea about Sage blanks/rods being "made" in the US is a myth... LIke all the rods on the market they are made in asia and "assembled" in the US... It would be WAY too expensive to manufacture them in the US... P
  21. Similar, but it all depends on which side of the river I'm on (good side vs. bad side). Not a great roll caster on my bad side as the current takes the line down pretty fast. A good rod with lots of spine sure helps!! P
  22. Lynn, Just a suggestion/advise... Always get the name of the person you are talking with over the phone (first and last, if possible) and if you can, document every conversation (or get it in writing on their end)... It will lessen the headaches! P P
  23. Can they move back to the NW?! P
  24. Correction! He is currently working for Sabal homes... Previous comments related to a previous company... I can still pass along some questions for him directly, if you wish... P
  25. Din, I think my bro-in-law worked for them... Not a great parting of ways, from what I recall... I can ask him to contact you or relay some questions on your behalf. PM me if interested... Peter
