  1. Very cool! Did you get any photos or vids? P
  2. Correct Rick, but as far as what the "consumer" pays (even with products "on sale") the retailer still has to make $, and they do! It all fits into the grand scheme of things... manufacture cost - wholesale cost - retail cost... Each segment needs to turn a profit (or why make/sell products?!), so if the retail mark up is at least 100%, then then each previous segment is making a specific %'age as well (maybe not 100% as each segment is certainly weighted differently. Of course volume plays a role, as well - think Cost-co, Walmart, etc.) P
  3. Kewl! If you need to look at the modifications I made, lemme know! P
  4. I don't have a lot of retail experience, but what I do know is the "standard" mark up with all (if not most) retail products is 100%, so one can presume that it's the same in the sports retail sector... P
  5. So for those of you that have followed this soap opera, thus far... Here's an update. Found a travel agent (name was passed along by deb's bro-in-law) who is a "one man show"... YYC - FRA - BOM, return (commission, GST, etc., included) $1400!! He's working to try and find better, but that's pretty darn good for going through a travel agent! P
  6. Andy, didn't know there was a time limit on fishing this particular hole (or any any other, for that matter...) <Just kidding> Actually, there was 6 people in our group. My father (who's 80), my nephew (who's 10), my GF, my buddy and his wife (as previously mentioned) and seeing we were with a "senior" and child, it wasn't easy for us to pool jump and explore other areas of the river., P
  7. Hey I'm all for being a "kid" and enjoying summer (used to cliff jump as well at different locals), but the whole deal was that they were being punk, snot nose pricks. If they were wanting to speak to us like mature individuals, then we probably wouldn't have called them in (I'm sure if we weren't with my friends wife, the RCMP probably would have told us they were too busy, anyway). We would even told them we were going to be fishing for another 1/2 hour or so and they could have drank beer and swam instead of jumping in right off the bat... P
  8. Never fished the Highwood before and was surprised that no body was even there to begin with!!
  9. So a few of us were fishing on the Highwood today (big pool - cliff jumping pool) and had never fished the Highwood beofre. Anyway, didn't know this was the area where all the local teens go to party and jump off the cliffs... We got there and had the whole place to ourselves (except for all the garbage and beer cans/water bottles, etc.). Anyway, about an hour into our session when the fish just started to rise a group of teens came down to jump off the cliffs. We tried to speak to them politely to let them know we were fishing there and they told us off and proceeded to jump off the cliffs and drink beer, etc. Many of them were obviously underage... Nonetheless, my buddies wife that was with us is an RCMP officer (off duty) and when we got back to our vehicles (no point fishing after all that racket) she puts a call into to Turner Valley dispatch (found out one of their vehicles was even wanted for a hit and run)... Anyway, long story short, she gets a follow-up txt while we were having dinner in Black Diamond, and the kids received over $700 in fines!! :ridemcowboy: If they weren't so rude to begin with, we probably wouldnt have done anything, but I guess we ruined their long weekend fun!! Yeehaw! :ridemcowboy: P
  10. If you were "swinging" them, then that's pretty common... A natural reaction is to pull the rod tip straight up, which essentially pulls the fly out of the fish's mouth. Try using an "up stream" hook set (I think that's what it's called?). Pull the rod tip up stream while pulling one big strip in. It takes A LOT of concentration as the natural tendency is to pull straight up! I'm still working on mine... Hope this helps... Peter P.S> Also make sure your hooks are sharp (and sharpen regularly) as streamers tend to dull pretty quickly dragging on the bottom bashing into rocks, etc.!
  11. On the flip... I've had about three posts removed (over the last 2 years mind you) and did not receive a message as to why.. Only one I would have contested!! My point exactly with the inconsistency of the Mods... I'm not trying to make a big deal about this I thought thhat if it was something that happened often, it would be a good educational opportunity, that's it! P
  12. I totally agree that if it in the wrong section... But what I'm talking about is when there is no clear reason why it was removed (or at least no obvious reason - didn't necessarily violate any of the rules), and even if it did, I think the person should be aware of why their post was removed (like the photo violation - poster are supposed to be made aware of why their photos was removed)... Educates them so they don't do it again. Plus one Mod might have removed it, while another didn't , sometimes inconsistent, but that's understandable... P
  13. Sorry, I misread his post... But at least to the person that they removed their post, as sometime you don't even know it was removed... No the are deleted! P
  14. No for other mods, but for the person (and others) that you removed their post... P
  15. I've been censored by the Mods previously (which I'm not desputing for the most part, except for one time) and I think the Mods need to inform the censoree that they did this and why as an "educational op" and out of courtesy... Just my $0.02 P
  16. <start of hijack> Rick, having just returned from the homeland, I would think you would consider this weather "cool"!! LoL <end of hijack> P
  17. It most certainly does from the headwaters all the way through!! Epic river!! P
  18. Congrats! I know what a relief this kind of news can be!! P
  19. Pretty good! But I think we found it for $1400 and something last night! P
  20. Yeah the technical term is called "presenteeism" and I'm currently involved with a project that addressing it in the workplace - I might be affected by it as well )... As you may have also noticed, I have also worked for an airline... Cheers, P
  21. Sounds good Chris, if you guys have time on your hands on a long weekend and don't have anything better to do... I'm going fishing!! What I'm finding thus far, is some online sites list more airlines then others (not sure why that is) as well different flights as well... But have at'er What we are trying to do is go as directly and inexpensively as possible. Thus far traveling from YYC (Calgary) through LHR (London Heathrow) to BOM (Mumbai) is by far the most direct and inexpensive. Where it get's interesting relates to where we are going from BOM... So to keep it simple heading from YYC to BOM. Dates: October 2 (evening) or Oct. 3 (morning or aft). Be aware of arriving flight times and departing - anything less then a 1 hour connection is probably not going to work... I will be returning Oct 17th from HYD (Hyderabad) back to LHR to YYC, Deb get's to stay an extra week! Have fun, but don't worry about it as I'd rather you all go fishing (if the H20) temp is ok!! Cheers, Peter P.S. For any of you that want to break into our house while we are away, we will have someone staying there, so... But if you do want my junk, I could use a few new things, so go crazy (if you find my portable harddrive, please leave it behind i won't be able to replace some of the photos) and please don't take my fly rods!! Everything of real value will be in a safety deposit box...
  22. My involvement will be to go and fish the water to see if there was an "educational opportunity", that's it! Oh and to hopefully get into a few fish P
  23. I think Brad hit it on the head, a little courtesy goes a long way! I remember going up to a house on the Oldman and it was the lady's son who owned that portion of the family's land and she said she would give us permission on his behalf... Worked out great!! Peter quote name='bhurt' date='Jul 30 2009, 07:08 PM' post='95349'] Well who wants to come with me, I have absoultle no problem walking up to the establishment and knocking on the door, I will even bring a six pack of beer as a peace offering. When I go out painting landscapes me and a good friend has on numerous occassions knocked on doors and asked for permission and usally the reception is good, only had one bad experince where the owner threaten to let his dog, which he was holding back and snarling at me, after me, I looked down at the dog and then looked back at the owner and told him if he wanted to press the issuse and let his dog go the dog better kill me else I would burn his house down at a later date, end result he let me onto his land after he realize what he said and once I had a painting done I left it in his mail box with a small note saying thank you for letting me onto his property. Most land owners I have come across or have heard stories about have no problems with people on their land, the key to it as it was pointed out to me, is just to say May I please cross your land in a curtious manner so I can get to the river? Most of the time they all say yes, and as it was pointed out to me by another board member bring beer as a peace offering and every time you cross the land leave a six pack on their front door, its amazing what beer can do.
  24. Remember, it was just a thought... P
