This Is Just Unbelivable !
ÜberFly replied to McLeod's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I want to say stupid parents for not keeping their child within arms distance near water, but I'll probably get slammed for it!! They are so lucky their child didn't drown. I'm not sure they know how lucky they indeed are!! P -

T & A (or public lewdness) is a far cry (in some respects) from public urination, littering, general disrespect both culturally and environmentally!! Not really where I was going with this post! Get with the program! P

A Few Hours On The Bow Tomorrow?
ÜberFly replied to Smitty's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yes, yes, yes and yes!! Seriously, though, all the places you list have great water all around them. Fish Creek tends to attract quite a few spin and fly anglers as well as a lot of rubber neckers and people asking stupid questions, that being said, I fish there regularly and rarely see others near me or if i do they (usually keep to themselves). Closer to downtown (zoo) access, i.e. parking can be an issue. Deerfoor extention bridge and Policemen's are all closer to where you will be hiding in Okotoks so less time drivng = more time fishing... Enjoy the clinic! P <edit> river is totally fishable, in fact as you have probably read, best dry fly action in quite a number of years! -
How Do You "not Fish For Bull Trout"
ÜberFly replied to Golfman09's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Bull trout can definitly be targeted with big, big streamers (usually white with red slashes, but not exclusively), but generally can be caught (and have been caught) on other FF tackle (nymphs and even dries). I think with fishing the areas you mentioned, intent is important and if one were to hook into a Bully unintentionally (and released properly and with respect) it would be overlooked... P -
Overmatching Line To Rod Weight
ÜberFly replied to Cutman's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Remember the SA GPX (as well as Rio Grand, SA Headstart, and a few others I can't remember the specific ones) are over weighted to begin with!! Try it with a standard 6. Also if your rod is a mid flex (medium taper - as oppose to many of the "fast" tapers) are somewhat softer and would do better with a DT or heavier front taper (of the line). So that will influence the feel/cast-ability. P -
Overmatching Line To Rod Weight
ÜberFly replied to Cutman's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
This topic has been discussed many times. Please do a search and you will come up with the answers (sorry don't have time to post the link). Cheers, P -
I agree! Quality and fit are most important (or should be )!! P
-
Yeah, but a *hit load of people!! P

<Plug> Yeah the Hammel's (Gary and Donna) do great work - I went to Jr. High/HS with their son! Very repsected in the climbing community with resoling hiking boots and climbing shoes, as well!! <Plug> P

Jack, Though I have never owned a pair of Korkers, the one criticism that seems to come up often with their interchangable sole, is that it doesn't stay in place and seems to always be popping out (I've seen it many times)! I know there has been previous discussions on this topic, but I guess to each to his or her own... P P.S. I currently wear the Patagonia Riverwalker (studded) boot and a crappy pair of Hodgman for when I'm in a boat, my next pair is going to be a rubber sole whether Pati or Simms!

Where were you? Okanagan? P

Personally I can't make this weekend work, but will possibly be up near there the weekend of the 18/19th. Lemme know. Cheers, P

So I'm fishing tonight down at Fish Creek and this "floatilla" goes by (a pontoon boat with two guys in float tubes and a girl in a dinghy all tied together). The guy in the pontoon, puts a couple of cast close to where I was but I wasn't fishing so it wasn't a big deal.... Then 50 meters below me the three guys all get out and start peeing in the river!! <--poke--< I mean come on, show a little class and walk the 10 feet (fins or no fins) and go on the bank or better yet, in the bushes!! Sheesh! I guess I was brought up a little bit better the you lot!! If you guys are on the board, show a little respect!! P

Well, you'll probably do quite well as I'm pretty sure it hasn't been fished in quite a few years as the bridge across the Kananaskis River has been out for about 3! So be prepared to hike an extra 5 km further then you'd normally hike (up the gravel road to the ski area)! Lemme know when you are going in and we'll join you, I've been wanting to do that for quite awhile!! I know McLeod would also be interested and possibly JayHad (we're the backcountry guys on the board (that I know of ) Peter

Fortress Kananaskis, or Fortress Jasper? P
-
Yeah I just bought some in the states and brought it over... US$10.56/doz (Walmart). Pretty good stuff, but not worth the CDN$15/6 in Canada. I guess a Facebook petition was the reason they brought it up... Shoulda brought up some Miller Chill to do a taste test... Still a dark beer guy, though!! P

You guys keep voting them in!! P

Yeah we hiked up there last summer and ran into some real skids! Left a whole stringer of dead fish and a bunch of *hit and TP every where!! Burnt towels in a firepit that was still smoking, had a big can of white gas (saw them walking out)... Sheesh!! P quote name='beedhead' date='Jun 27 2009, 06:54 PM' post='91726'] Dekkard and I hiked into a Cutty lake yesterday...We were kinda hoping for bigger Cutts....But these guys were a hoot!!!...All sight fishing with ice cream cone Chronies in 7-15 feet of water, and right close to shore...These little guys kept us entertained for hrs....It was the highlight of my trip....
