  1. So Jer, What are you saying, you guys gonna make some babies this weekend?! A little strange, but each to his or her own! LoL P
  2. http://sherpascinema.com/theatre/allican
  3. Just like this! http://midcurrent.com/videos/how-to-tie-a-nail-knot/
  4. Zap a gap is pretty much the same thing as crazy glue... Try aqua seal or another pliable product which IMHO is better suited for that specific application... P
  5. Yeah I won't open that can of worms, re: hunting grizzlies, as I personally believe the science and hold the exact opposite (and then some) opinion as you (which is ok, as your opinion/belief is ok)... That being said, I agree with you that "our" group (though I wouldn't place "myself" in that same group, per se , but I do understand what you mean, "has some real pukes"!! P
  6. I think that is a VERY important point and one that is crucial to this area (and argument/discussion)!! We've devistated the grizzlies "natural" range so much that this is one of the only areas left (natural or not) for them to live! I won't go into detail on how they are an indicator species, etc., but if we don't protect their "range" in the Crowsnest, what will happen? You say that they will adapt... Not so sure about that as we have encroached so much on their natural range we haven't really left them a pot (or should I say plot) to piss in!! Anyway, I'll be the 1st to restrict my access to the area in order to protect them, but that's all or none - restrict the logging and I'll restrict my useage (you can hold me too that)!!!! I can guarantee you that my footprint will be 1000% less then theirs!! P
  7. Clive, I fully consede that this area will be logged no matter what, but your point (and wingshooters) that the forest will grow back albeit true, is unlike warmer climates (like New Zealand, for example where their cedars (for harvest) grow to production heights in 10 years, ours will take 100+). The other 2 points I'd like to make are that there seems to be lack of foresight on the part of industry with regards to environmental damage, ie., griz habitat, water shed distruction, etc., (reducing it) and that these trees inparticular will be used for less then desirable products (pallets, fence posts and mulch). So these particular trees won't be used to build anything substancial (the trees just aren't that big - nor will they ever be). Thin out the forest, to protect the area from fire, etc., but do it sustainably - that seems to be the crux - it just ain't gonna happen (in this particular case), the area is just too sensitive!! P quote name='dryfly' date='Jan 18 2012, 08:27 AM' post='153436'] Now !is most disturbing. Tree huggers having a wailing orgasmic protest. Idiots. The Castle protest is short-sighted. Trees will grown back and reforestation is mandated. Properly managed forest harvest is preferable to forest fires and as noted previously the dominant species in our forest are short-lived and become fire hazards as they age. Yet we continue to put out forest fires (as often as not) to save cabin owners...some of whom are out protesting against logging. They don't want logging but want taxpayers to put out fires that will burn their houses! Logging is temporarily destructive for sure and can be massive....like the current Castle logging. But it is hypocritical for someone who has cut down trees to build their dream retirement wood-framed home to protest against logging! Check out the Mountain Legacy website for an eye opener. It can be a bit fussy to get around. Go here for sure. The points being: -- forests recover -- in some mountain regions there are MORE trees in today than 100 years ago...(where there are before-and-after photos) The examples below compare "today" with 1913-1914 ... this is "Isolated Mtn" somewhere in SW Alberta..maybe LastBoyScout or Lad can tell us where... See here, here , here ,here and here for examples...some recently logged and some not... Note particularly ... Where there has been no recent logging see how much more lush today's forest areas are compared to 100 years ago. Ripe for a fire soon..at least sometime in a few decades of not logged or (ironically) burned? Okay, now go find the City of Calgary on Google Earth. Compare today's cancerous growth with that of 100 years ago. Which has more chance of being regenerated to a natural state? A city or a logged forest? Stay warm ... Clive
  8. That photo is about 20+ years growth!! Just sayin! P
  9. I'm in favor of either, but seeing that Waterton is already down there, I doubt that they would expand it. It is already supposed to be a protected area (provincially), but obviously that means zippity do da!
  10. I'm ok with that, but who said anything about a "Federal" (National) park?! Why not a Provincial Park?! Eitherway, we need to protect this area for the future!
  11. My wife and I were up on Black Prince Sunday and there was this idiot standing right in the middle of the avi chute (the one above the creek bed/canyon) taking off his skins... I was much lower in the trees and I didn't stick around as it was a nightmare waiting to happen considering there was a slide in the area on Friday (as well as the warm temps & heavy winds that day)!! Dave, was there a CAC bulletin for that area?! I think it was rated as high over the weekend, wasn't it? P
  12. Mike, Contact BigRock Garage Doors (403-801-6355)! John does great work and is very reasonable (can get doors a a pretty good cost). Helped me out when a sketchy Kijiji guy (who keeps changing his name but his # is consistent 403-478-1110 - DO NOT CALL HIM) did a REALLY crappy install... P
  13. One thing I'll add as far as "responsible" forest management, i.e., (true) selective logging is that would be SUPER expensive and be counter productive - and is why clear cutting is used - it's cheaper! WAYYYYYY cheaper.... Not sure if there is a happy medium. I would just hope that they put in place buffer zones (real buffer zones) as to limit erosion... I guess time will tell!! <sigh>
  14. It's a sad sad state of affairs, that's for sure!! P
  15. Brian, What about those guides from BC or Montana?! Can you guarantee that they too are doing the same as you?! Not bloody likely! So I would say that a lot of this negative sentiment is going towards that specific situation - I mean I've heard you "talk" about the situation on the Castle with out of provice plates!! As a guide in that area, that's gotta bug the heck out of you!! P
  16. My understanding is that H I D retrofits are illegal (even thought they sell them), despite that, they are a P I T A (and dangerous) for other drivers, please reconsider your decision...
  17. Old ones (partial list): M*A*S*H (probably my fave - one of the best written shows EVER!) Magnum PI Seinfeld Star Trek (original) Space 1999 NY PD Blue Homicide Life on the Streets Twin Peaks (before it got too weird - 1st season & part of the 2nd) SCTV (Canadiana at it's best) Some of the others that were listed, as well, like Simon & Simon New Ones (partial list): Spooks (MI5) Entourage Dexter Nurse Jackie Hung Law & Order SVU Curb Your Enthusiasm P.S. Deb's favorites were "Hammy the Hamster" and The Friendly Giant (oh she wants me to list Dexter so you don't think she's too weird)! LoL
  18. Paul, It means that the post will get bumped to the top of the tread!! As does TTT (to the top), and many other variations... P
  19. I heard about this on the radio the other day and finally looked into it... http://wishlist.thedi.ca/ I think many of us are in a pretty good state (financially, etc.) and there are many others that are not (as we all know). Not getting into a debate on other peoples specific situations, whys/why nots, haves/have nots, etc. and I am aware that there are many deserving charities out there that can use our support... If you haven't yet contributed to a (deserving) charity this season, this is the one Deb and I have decided to support this year (or at least one person on their list) and I ask that others on here follow suit. Cheers and Merry Christmas (Happy Holidays) Peter (and Deb) P.S. I especially think that gifts that help people seek/maintain employment, makes a perfect gift (work boots/clothes for example), but that is just my opinion...
  20. Don, I think if you are with Shaw you can block any particular number... It is also referred to as Selective Call Rejection Service. 1. Dial *60 2. Dial 3 to turn it on 3. Push # to add a number 4. Dial the 10 digit number 5. Press # after you dialed the number and it will be added to your list Repeat steps 3 to 5 to add more numbers, you can add up to 32 numbers P
  21. Darrin, Head to CPs and chuck one there as they are the local dealer (though cats out of the bag if they have read this post with knowing you aren't going to purchase it there ). Also, Murray has one (though in a 9' - I'm prettysure, not sure of the wt) that I'm sure he would let you chuck (not sure if it's a tip flex or mid flex). As well Rob (Pipestoneflyguy) out in Lake Louise has one (in a 9', as well I'm pretty sure again don't know the wt off hand) but that's a bit of a drive... Nice stick, but I hear (read) they are pretty fragile!! P
