  1. Yes that was a great day wasn't it!! Funny thing is, the following week I took Deb down to that same spot (yes I got skunked that day with you, Bobloblaw and kayakmike ) and we hooked a ton of fish! Back on point... I was also a spin fisher up until the late 80's (introduced by my father and late [great] uncle George)!! Anyway, at that time (mid/late '80's) I figured I'd try it out (can't remember why initially, I guess it looked pretty cool and was challenging) and asked for a fly rod for Christmas one year. I remember dad bought my 6/7 wt Mitchell Rod & Shakespeare reel at Frenchy's (to which I sold to Deb's bro-in-law a few years ago). I went to the library and read up on everything I could find (I guess I am self taught for the most part). I remember in the early mid '90's there was a weekly fishing report in the Calgary Herald during the summer (Bruce Masterman would include a fly/hatch report - I'm currently looking at an article from Aug 4th 1995 that I clipped out and kept, called "Trout Fishing the Bow - Legendary river will test anglers' patience, preparation (and luck)". It featured Jim McLennan... During that time, I worked at Bob Bahan & Forest Lawn Pools and would go down to the bridge under Highway 22 x in the evening after work and flailed around. I remember catching one fish (nice rainbow on a bowriver bugger) and was hooked... Would consistently go out but only remember catching that one fish!! It wasn't until about 5 years ago when a neighbor approached me to see if I knew of anybody looking for a roommate (at that time he was having issues with the people he was living with) and he moved in with me. I found out soon after that he was a former fly fishing guide (out of Monod's in Banff) and re-energized me. A few years later I was up on FFC and the rest is history... Where I too have met some great people, made some lifelong friends and have learned a TON!! P
  2. If it comes to that, but we need to get to a particular file at this point in time (not super critical)... Also, not sure when we will be getting a new one as macBook Pros will go out of production in the next little while (6 months or so) so might want to wait until whatever the latest and greatest is that will replace them... P
  3. So my wife's iBook pooched out (logic board needs to be replaced but that part is apparently obsolete so cannot get the thing repaired) so we ca no longer get power to the computer and therefore cannot charge the battery (which is only holding a charge for about 15 minutes)... Anyone out there have a iBook G4 that we can borrow the (charged) battery from so that we can back-up the hard drive (to which I should have done a while ago!) prior to getting a new MacBook Pro?! Please let me know. Thanks, Peter
  4. I just turn the GSP off on my new panasonic! P
  5. Heading there this aft, I'll check!! P
  6. Will do Taco. On the way down can I borrow a chain?! You gotta have some around your place, all rednecks do!! LoL P
  7. Yup you absolutely correct!! It's used for building pallets and fence posts!! Totally worth while (from a cost/benefit analysis) if you ask me!! P
  8. Me too! I went down to protest at the McDougle Centre earlier this year and I have written letters!! So I'm allowed to bitch! P
  9. If anyone has a line on some "reasonable" parking near the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary during regular business hours (slight variations Mon & Fri), please let me know. Thanks, Peter
  10. Yeah that's the one Neil!! Now find me a recipe!! P
  11. Yeah two words... Carbon Fiber... = not cheap!!

  13. Yeah ok... Darrin & Craig!! LoL P
  14. Yeah I LOVE your boat Jay and I'm SUPER jealous! I just hope the new ones offer the option to stand and cast!! LoL! Looking forward to some more invites next season! Cheers, P
  15. Wow! Great service!! I just wanted to pass along a shout out to the FFC members that work at Honda West (I'm not sure if it's appropriate to name drop)! They went above and beyond helping us out with info pertaining to a soon to be purchase for my dad! Thanks for your help guys!! Cheers, P
  16. Dale, I'm still curious about why the report says "Registered in New York"?! Maybe that was where it crossed the boarder?! And he is selling it b/c he wants something bigger... P
  17. I just pulled the Carfax report and for the most part it seems ok... A couple of things that stand out. Registered in both Georgia and Windsor which is consistent with what the seller has stated... Then when it details it's registration in Windsor on 08/07/2009, it lists that it passed safety inspection, the correct color, that it has been registered in New York (but then that doesn't show up on the report?! Huh?!), and it also lists the mileage as 40,049 kms. Then it states that between 08/02/2009 & 02/02/2010 the odometer reading was reported with ~9000 LESS Kms (which could be a clerical error, I suspect). We have confirmed that it presently has ~ 50,000... Do you think this is a red flag?! Also says he shipped it out here from Windsor... Obviously the Alberta registration doesn't show up in this report as he says it was only registered last week (easy enough to check at any registry, plus he has a valid license on the vehicle, etc.)... P
  18. Mom & Dad's car died last week so they are looking to buy a used vehicle (not sure if through a dealership or private sale, at this point...). Dad and I went out this morning to look at one and it seems to be in pretty good shape (if we get to a point where we will consider purchasing it we will take it to our mechanic, etc.). The guy that is selling it moved up here from Georgia to Windsor, Windsor to Calgary (said his family purchase the car new, etc. in Georgia) - also had all the upgrades needed to bring it into Canada (daytime running lights, miles to kms, etc.). I know there is a way to check out (at least) the registration/ownership in the USA. Can anyone tell me how I have a little bit of info I'm looking at expanding (car fax/car proof?)... Thanks, Peter
  19. Purchased a couple of these yesterday at Fishtales and the fish where we were fishing were slamming them under a hopper (no surprise)... Can anyone pass along a pattern, they seem pretty easy to tie (if in fact they were tied with an oval chrome bead - presume you could get these at Michaels?! Thanks, P
  20. Yeah when I try the old name it shows up on the available networks, but won't allow me to connect... Not that big a deal at this point though... Thanks, P
  21. Are they neoprene or trip-lam membrane (like goretex)? If the former, MEC, scuba shops and anywhere that sells wet suits will sell some special soap to clean neoprene, if the latter use a specific wash (like Granger's) for goretex (or other laminents) and follow the instructions to also restore waterproofness, etc. P
  22. Thanks BiggyJ for helping me out last night! One little hiccup is that it still won't allow me to connect with my old network name (really weird as I can set up the network under that name, but it won't allow me to connect)... Cheers, P
  23. I needed to reset my wireless router recently (was no longer showing up on the iBook and still showing up on the iMac but wasn't allowing me to connect) and I can't for the life of me get it working again beyond an unsecured network (my neighbor set it up for me about 4 - 5 years ago). Anyway can anyone walk me through it?! It's a Hawking HWRGM1A. I can access the website, but I'm not sure what to input within the required fields. Depending on how much work it takes there might be some beer (or another beverage) in it for whom ever helps... Cheers, Peter
  24. Used to track fish during the spawn (possibly for bullies). Contains the receiving part of the electronic tagging system.
  25. Don't cheap out! Simms and Patagoina are the best and have the best guarantee/warrantee bar-none!! P
