Smitty Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I'm sure some of you by now have seen this:https://www.facebook.com/AlbertaFishandWildlifeEnforcement/photos/a.1580892292169500.1073741828.1579802275611835/1619099108348818/?type=1&fref=nf I seriously want to show up at their trial and petition the judge for maximum fines and permanent revocation of their licenses. 3 Quote
RedBeard Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Isn't that incredible.. what a sad place that watershed is Quote
toolman Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Too bad the government shut down all efforts to maintain the Oldman Stream Watch program. What a dam shame. How many times do the poachers get away with this? Answer: Most of the time. Quote
fishinglibin Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Throw the book at them and take their vehicles. 5 Quote
Frenchie Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 WTF! That's sick. Unfortunately it might happen too often. And not often is already too often at that scale. 1 Quote
wheels Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Stuff like this combined with the ever-increasing ATV streambed cruises makes me wonder if we will even have fishing opportunities 10 years from now. I imagine we will always have our stocked ponds and lakes, but it seems like the possibilities for plentiful stream and river fishing are becoming worse and worse each year. It makes me feel stick to my stomach. 1 Quote
bullfighter Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 If those fish were from 1 or 2 days worth of "fishing", you'd think that they were doing some netting of some sort. Can't imagine that those people would be fine tuned fisherman. Then again, there are worms... Quote
troutlover Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 bag of worms and you could have twice that in a day Quote
jtaylor Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 F**** this totally sucks. I can only hope that they get a serious fine! 1 Quote
Heimdallr Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 It absolutely broke my heart when I saw this picture earlier today. Serious props to whoever called them in and, thankfully, officers were able to respond in time to catch them. 1 Quote
Popular Post TroutPanther Posted July 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted July 23, 2015 Went down tonight to fish a downtown stretch near my place in bridgeland - find a guy there fishing in a favourite seam, and walk over to ask about the fishing. He tells me "It's great! I got two nice rainbows!" And points to a black garbage bag... Which clearly was filled to a distance longer than 30 cm. Very pissed and offended, i called it in. (The knob was taking fish out of a favourite hole in a beat I pretty much learned how to fly fish at, which doesn't tend to hold too many fish too begin with!! I got my first brown there) Anyways, he was fishing with bait, without a licence, rainbows were over the size limit, and he had two of them. The officer was very grateful and thanked me for calling it in. I was thrilled the guy stayed long enough that the COs were able to make it in time. Time for a letter to my MLA. Would really like to see more enforcement. Personally, I wouldn't even care if I had to pay triple the cost for my licence if it meant more enforcement, we seem to need it. Keep your eyes peeled for a-holes. 12 Quote
SilverDoctor Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Kudos to you , not enough people report. 2 Quote
Sage Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Well done TroutPanther. It would be great if fish & wildlife would publicize the fines on their website for public shaming and a deterrent. Any idea from the CO what this guy is looking at fine wise?? 1 Quote
bcubed Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 If gets convicted, Troutpanther *should* get a call about how much it was. Last ones that I called in was $4500 in fines (and got a $400 reward) 1 Quote
jgib01 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Did they ever release names on the Upper Oldman group of 6, or do we have to wait for the court date? Any FFC folk from Pincher wanna go hang out in Court on Sept 29th and let us know the outcome? Quote
TroutPanther Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 No clue what he is looking at fine-wise, but from my count, could be looking at 4 offences - no license, using bait, and 2x fish outside the legal size limit. If I get any news on conviction and penalties, I will post an update for sure. Quote
Guest bigdirty Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Hey troutpanther, I'm waiting on news of conviction and penalties myself. Was told there was some kind of paper jam in the one copier they share. 1 Quote
SilverDoctor Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Made enough for a nice shopping spree in past years. 1 Quote
TroutPanther Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I never got a call regarding convictions, but I did cash in on my reward - $300! Not sure where the proceeds are going yet. Maybe 2 nights motel and 2 shuttles in Fernie/Craig/some other long weekend locale?... Makes the sting of busting that douche go away a bit, for sure. 1 Quote
jpinkster Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This entire debacle was very personal for me and my fishing buddies. We routinely fish the Oldman upstream from 22, and it is depressing to think that fish we may have encountered on a regular basis have been poached. A truly sad situation. Quote
jpinkster Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Folks, Some confirmation on the court case for the Gap poachers from this thread: The Court proceedings will take place on September 29, 10:00 am in Pincher Creek. This is an opportunity for anglers to show up strong and show some solidarity against this kind of garbage. 1 Quote
Smitty Posted September 2, 2015 Author Posted September 2, 2015 I'm actually considering going. Long drive for me, but perhaps worth sending a message. I think just the mere presence of a dozen to 2 or 3 dozen concerned anglers would say something. Not there to start s**t of course, just a silent, watchful, pissed off group of guys just showing up would be a pretty strong message. Smitty 2 Quote
jpinkster Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I think having folks from different areas in the province makes the biggest statement. Do we all wear waders? Quote
