welcome steve, be glad to welcome you to the hook and hackle club. if you decide to join up, there is a fish out in june. i wont be around for april but any of the meetings are open to guests at any time. there was an open house in february, but there is some info under the special events section and gives some general info about the club if you are curious. google hook and hackle club calgary and it should give you the link. still talking about this eh? i dont have a problem disclosing spots, not much within the city limits is a secert, any pics posted show, yep - water, a fish, guy with a stupid smile, probably a boot or a net, a hand and probably a rock or a tree. big water out there, even on the little streams, unless you have been there, 99% of the fishers out there have no idea where "the spot" is. and i doubt someone is going to waste the time, printing off a pic and wandering up and down the river looking for "the spot", what a waste of time, especially when you could be fishing the last 10 pools you passed up. sure we may all have a favorite spot, and every so often, we might find rick there, but hey, be nice, he's a good guy. go and find another spot. or if you are feeling testie, toss a jar of eggs. the jerk in YOUR spot will leave.

geez, i go away for 3 weeks and house sit without a computer and you guys have gone and run amuck again. i cant wait to be gone for a whole month and see what mess you guys come up with. Rick, i'll show you mine if you show me yours

i'm gone from the computer for 1 day and it seems we have lost rocknbugs. i'm still up for saturday if my 'date' doesnt decide he actually has time for me, which he probably wont so i should be available. in lieu of rocknbugs, anyone else want to host? i'd love to but i'm not at home

no fishing?!? whats with that... sux. my trip begins in Sao Paulo Brazil. somehow i have to be creative to get to Santos. havent figured that out yet. board the ship and off we go to Rio, Recife, Salvador de Bahia (not in that order) then 5 days at sea crossing the Atlantic. next stop is Tenerife, Madeira, Seville (Cadiz), Lisbon, where thankfully my girlfriend and her mother join us so i can have a break from 2 weeks at sea with my mom... the we're off to Gibraltar, Sardinia, Dubrovnik (Croatia), and finally Venice. Where i have yet to find a hotel but i think i have one narrowed down, just waiting for my travel agent to get around to it. we over night by train to Vienna, with an annoying 4am stop in Salzberg to change trains - oi. after 3 days in the heart of the ringroad surrounded by castles and museums, we are off on the morning train to Prague. i have a school buddy who lives there and is going to show us the sights for 2 days. then we beatnik it off to London for a quick overnight and short early morning run around London and then back to Calgary. i'll be gone for a month. i just hope i can handle my mom for that long

i promote this site to new people that i talk to about fly fishing not because the 'secret location' or the 'magic fly' will be revealed but because the majority of the core posters are great people. i have now managed to meet or fish with close to 30. everyone is helpful, mostly understanding and willing to explain things. i dont think it really matters whats in the back ground of a picture. from someone who has not fished the bow everyday or so (me) it just looks like more water and a few rocks. i couldnt tell you the southland bridge crossing from anyother pedestrian overpass. but that i only because i havent fished the river on a regular basis. sure i have seen more and more people on the river and probably because the population of calgary has basically doubled since i moved here 8 years ago. what are you going to do about it. nothing. what we can do for each other is treat people how you want to be treated. if you want to be treated like an ass, act like one. one of Jim's shorts in water marks refers to fishing paths as the new elevator, we see each other, we know the other is there yet we dont stop to say hi and ask how the day is. why? we all share a passion for fly fishing, or we wouldnt be out there doing it. we have all become an active part in our fishing community by posting, why not help out others by being curtious, we will always have disagreements - right rick? but that doesnt mean we cant agree to disagree and get along, thus later inviting the ignorant (me) party over for breakfast. i think we all have a responsibility to promote our sport, promote ettiquette and proper conservation issues.
