  1. some great responses. i feel a little better knowing that there are new people willing to test their abilities. Mike, you know you can ask me... oh wait, you already do j/k. as for asking questions, i can't tell you how many times i have asked for tips and ideas, techniques and patterns for swaps in the last 6 months. everyone on FFC and UK fly dressers has been fantastic at helping out. i have definately learned new techniques, tried new materials (beads) and found easier ways of doing things as well that i really like the way beads look. i started tying about 4 years ago give or take but only half heartedly, i'd tie a few and then put it down for half a year then do a few more and so on. the last year i have tying more frequently and the last 6 months with a number of different swaps i have found my tying becoming much improved. as for time factor, i have trouble tying without some noise, and i prefer the tv, but i dont have a tv. so i throw a movie or fly fishing video into the computer rather than not tie. honestly, if you have a few hours each night to surf the forums and other fishing websites, you have the time to tie 3 or 4 flies a night and then your swap is done within a week. Brian was a little closer to the truth and that is not wanting to make the time, not that we dont have the time. i got to spend an hour or so with Troutlover and give a few tips and pointers tonight, i hope i can do that for a few other members as well - todd, ryan, mike??
  2. sorry dave, i dont have a wife to swap. LOL most of the answers are what i expected. i respect that many of you dont have time. i was just curious. i'm glad a few people decided to fill in the blank spots and a few of them are new. it is too bad that both Russ and clive have had bad experiences with swaps and the quality of craftsmanship. i suppose that is the risk you take when joining one. to date, i have not had any bad flies come back to me and all have been on time.
  3. LOL, Clive. i just read that to my ex-husband and he agrees with you. LOL
  4. the swaps are listed under the swap sub topic. i think the deadline will be some time in march. i dont think the date has been set. we have another person from the UK in the swap so no problems there. i see your point Dryfly.
  5. i cant wait to hear about the rest. wow
  6. no. i'm not starting one. one has already been started with space for 5 more people. no, please no deer hair. i've had my fill of spinning deer hair. you need better excuses.
  7. why is it that with so many tiers, even new tiers, that there is such limited participation in fly swaps. it seems to be the same 5 or 6 people and then we wait for another 5 people show some interest lazy, no time and too busy, didn't check the swap board, uncertain about your own ability??? i mean seriously. especially if you are learning or just want to braoden your current abilities with new techniques, swaps are a great way to learn. all it takes iw a few hours one night to tie up 12.
  8. thank dave. makes sence now. not sure what that has to do with valentines day aren't you always in trouble dryfly
  9. i'm a wee bit older than i look tako. i have a vague understanding of the accronym, but could you translate for an old lady
  10. the last fly really small fly that i tied was a 24. i have a dare to do a 32. i accepted and currently waiting for the hooks to be given to me by the darer. but for actual fishing usage 18 & 20 for buzzers and some midges. dries 14 - 16 and same for wets
  11. oh awesome. i gather you have the 90 sec flies back from arkle?
  12. i dont think it is AC. if there was a guy in my life. then yes i would like some flowers or something that says you are special. but i have done the same in the past, i have cooked a romantic candle lit dinner, nice music, and boot knocking. i've even taken the man at the time, out for dinner at a nice restaurant and then some boot knocking. it is nice to be told that you are important and special. a few times a year is not too much to ask. but it needs to go both ways not just from the guy to the girl.
  13. i was meaning the lynx creek camp ground not the fishing. if i turned right after the bridge but before i get to the nabor, would i be close to big earl. i havent fished that run until you get to that other place we talked about.
  14. very interesting information Don. Thanks. i have an 8wt that i have a few issues with. someon sugessted playing with the line wt. it isnt high on the priority list currently but at least i know what to look for
  15. good thing someone thought to build the bridge high enough. i gather that little river has a history of flooding really well once every 20-30 years
  16. have made anything with that stuff yet. or are you still contemplating what to do with it
  17. OOOOOOO!!!!! I HAVE UV FRITZ!!! I CAN MAKE THESE!!!!
  18. wow. now that is the way to make up for being away for valentines day. i'm not a dark chocolate fan but i bet the chili and cognac are both amazing. let us know... pllllzzzz. my mouth is wathering just thinking about it
  19. have the chinook today, and the job. it sucks. today would have been great. which i am sure to find out if i read the bow repots. but it is too depressing
  20. LOL. that looks like it was taken outside of vancouver or up the coast.
  21. pretty much an all day event. i was there tonight from 5-9. i do believe doors open tomorrow morning at 10?!? dont hold me to that and then close at 9pm. saturday, i think is 10am again. i am tying from 2pm until 9pm and sunday not sure what time but i am there from 2 until close, which could be 5pm swing by, i'd love to chat with you. the hook and hackle tables are between the fishing hole and the trout pond. i fish the rivers in the beaver mine lake area in the summer. just turn right in stead of left and follow the castle river camp ground signs, head over the mountain and turn right again. if you hit the bridge you have gone too far, i'll be at the lynx creek camp sites. maybe we can sling a few flies this summer.
  22. GREAT SBS!!! i made a deer hair mouse at the sportsman show... i think i have gotten deer spinning out of my system for a bit. my god you crammed a lot of deer hair on that little head.
