hey Tito very soft
-
i used to wrap the tippet around the split shot - more than annoying especially when trying to get the shot off, and yes i found it did cause a weak spot. i also used the knot method but found that i ended up moving or re-tying my line often when i changed set ups. i have changed to using a swivel. 1st. 6 ft leader to swivel. add shot above swivel, if needed. then add tippet and flies at desired leghts for cross or down stream drifts. for up stream drifts i use a longer leader and knot the bottom of the tippet, tie nymphs on above and put the slip shot on just above the knot. i got that from kerry galloup's DVD

i got some 10mm gubbie eggs. i will do up a variation and post as well for a wet version

non lubricated & non-flavoured, coloured condoms would also work well. and they already come ribbed LOL. or you could use some copper wire.
-
birchy, if you need a hand, i can come over one night and go over a few tips and stuff.

if you could taht would be great - of the flexi floss ones. i bought some on sale in some strange colours and not sure what to do with it

oh yeah, you would hate to get foul hooked in the eye. ouch. i have used it on smaller streamer/wet flies. it does soak up the water a bit. nice action

If You Could Live Anywhere In Alberta....
ladystrange replied to nwalker's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
i'd like to get out of Calgary central and think about okotos, close enough but far enough. i love teh rivers down south but i'd like to take some time this summer to fish around the red deer, raven, panther etc... -
i am from the west coast, i know what you are talking about. i have a tendancy to sit on the fence with this one. my personal opinion is to agree, but logically it doesnt make a whole lot of sence as Toolman pointed out. a poacher is of any race, creed, religion etc and is nothing more than a criminal. if we want to get technical, there are really no 'canadian' names as everyone's family has come from somewhere else in the last 400 years, not including Native Americans who also came from somewhere else 10,000 years ago and most of the native names are anglosized nowadays. best way to describe is as a non-anglo european christian name as per historic discent as for the fine. only 4500.00. should a been 10,000 from him and another 20,000 the restaruant(s) if applicable to whom he was going to sell them too. i just cant see any need for anyone to be kicking around with 50+ fish for personal consumption. and the loss of the car. can't buy a license for a year, WGAF exactly. i guess that he can't buy a license is ontario, but did he even buy one in Alberta in the first place. Could Alberta also charge him if the charges were only Ontario for having a posession over 5 fish? if so, why havent we? perhaps this spring there should be a poaching sting on the lakes in the area. if there is one guy, there probably is more.

LOL, ok i laughed at all of them, even gary's repeat. i think i'm getting a fever -
i may have to sit this one out unless you need a warm body and a few dead flies, only because i am out of town for a month come April, but i would be more than willing to help the new people out with tips/one on one instruction if needed
-
some great responses. i feel a little better knowing that there are new people willing to test their abilities. Mike, you know you can ask me... oh wait, you already do j/k. as for asking questions, i can't tell you how many times i have asked for tips and ideas, techniques and patterns for swaps in the last 6 months. everyone on FFC and UK fly dressers has been fantastic at helping out. i have definately learned new techniques, tried new materials (beads) and found easier ways of doing things as well that i really like the way beads look. i started tying about 4 years ago give or take but only half heartedly, i'd tie a few and then put it down for half a year then do a few more and so on. the last year i have tying more frequently and the last 6 months with a number of different swaps i have found my tying becoming much improved. as for time factor, i have trouble tying without some noise, and i prefer the tv, but i dont have a tv. so i throw a movie or fly fishing video into the computer rather than not tie. honestly, if you have a few hours each night to surf the forums and other fishing websites, you have the time to tie 3 or 4 flies a night and then your swap is done within a week. Brian was a little closer to the truth and that is not wanting to make the time, not that we dont have the time. i got to spend an hour or so with Troutlover and give a few tips and pointers tonight, i hope i can do that for a few other members as well - todd, ryan, mike??

sorry dave, i dont have a wife to swap. LOL most of the answers are what i expected. i respect that many of you dont have time. i was just curious. i'm glad a few people decided to fill in the blank spots and a few of them are new. it is too bad that both Russ and clive have had bad experiences with swaps and the quality of craftsmanship. i suppose that is the risk you take when joining one. to date, i have not had any bad flies come back to me and all have been on time.

LOL, Clive. i just read that to my ex-husband and he agrees with you. LOL
