we caught the tail end of the chum and middle of the silvers in Seward a few years back, mid sept. not on the fly but wild ride anyway. fished pinks in the campbell and quansam end of last august on the fly. pink run was low and the silvers sat off shore waiting for the river to rise before they started.. have a great time.

that is one ugly fish... looks like it spent some time in the sun and then rolled around in the mud. can a fish get water-logged? if so, i think that's it

welcome bree, great fish you have there. no one is as cool as max, at least not in the fishing department. mind you, there's not a lot of competition there. a family event might be fun. i will not suggest activities as i have no idea what keeps kids interested... but the fishing part sounds good.

well, personally, i would wait more than a few days if you have never fished the bow before, the rain is supposed to stop, wait for the water levels to go down. it is a lot higher than normal. as of this morning's commute to work, the level at bonnybrook is within inches of the top of the outflow for the treatment plant (under deerfoot at calf robe bridge, south of pegan exit) usually that area is 10ft lower to give you an idea. the fish should be right up against the banks in back waters and slower (ha-ha) areas. or the parking lots depending on the area. but kidding aside, just be careful. a few people have been out and have been catching fish. try a worm pattern or a streamer, purple and yellow mickey finns work for me sometimes (shhhh) as for location - sorry i dont know what is accessible right now.

i killed on green shrimp patterns last weekend, not a bullhead mind you, but ask the locals if there are shrimp in the lake... cast towards/close to the reeds near water flow if possible, let it sink for a moment and use a slow strip. the method that worked for me... manage to screw around as much as possible by answering text messages, light cigarette, talk to the guys behind, leave fly dangling about 15ft in front of you while untangling a knot, put smokes away, try to put out cigarette and pocket it with out littering, poaching your friends water in front of him to be a jackass and hope you dont catch one out of his water (i did, it worked, he did it back, worked again, we laughed our asses off and while laughing we each caught an other fish), and try to do as many at one time as possible. at some point you should have a strike but you still need line control to hook the fish.

best of luck on your quest - us single fly fish girls are hard to come by.

if youa re in left, go over to wholesale and take a look at the catolouge. if they dont have it they can bring something in from another store. i started out with a $60, no name vise and i still use it as my portable. look for something that doesnt look flimsy. i have heard lots of stories about jaws chipping because they are too fine and the hooks too big and not put in the vise properly. also check with the local TU chapter, they may have or know of winter tying leasons in the area. or help on a few simple starter patterns, get those materials and work from there.

nice pic.lol fished a couple of lakes ne of calgary this weekend. pike and rainbow seem to be fairing well in the lakes. hell what's a little water to fish. the fishermen on the other hand were all soaked, cold and grumpy within 4 hours... except for the 2 of us who actually caught fish. the roads on the other hand not so good, there were more ducks in the ponds where the road used to be than there were in the lakes. go figure. some of the farmers fields were almost completely under water. cant wait for the days to start getting shorter. thanks clive...
