oh my, i'm killing myself laughing. my portable gear is portable-ish. it moves if i carry it. therefore, portable. sort of. it really could use some wheels. or a dolly and yeah it is close to 40lbs. i'm thinking of moving up to a shopping cart before i blow out my back. except trying to get a shopping cart into my truck is difficult. i feel like a mosquito in a nudist colony, i know what to do, i just dont know where to start - i'm already in therapy. I wonder if my shrink can sort out this addiction just because i spent $200 on fritz to be shipped from the UK. harumpf! LOL look shiny stuff.

for once, i actually agree with you. i do understand what Tako is attempting to say, and that would be cultural differences between which were acceptable in the country that someone may have recently emmigrated from to feed family or make some money because the resources of the land is all that you may have had in a 2nd or 3rd world country are not acceptable here. it's not like the Canadian government says, Welcome to Canada, here's your copy of the Criminal Code and fishing regulations, go forth and prosper. think it is more like "NEXT" just as i (or any of us) would have difficulty moving to another country, may or may not speak the language and have to make something of yourself. what may be acceptable here (cattle raising for beef products for instance) is probably not highly regarded in India or maybe opening a brewery in the middle east, might not be the best plan since alcohol is illegal in some countries, but not necessarily something that readily jumps to mind. hey they wanted to behead the school teacher for letting the kids call the teddy bear Mohammed. we think AND... what's the problem? the residents of the country thought - YOU discraced our GOD, you should burn in hell. Thankfully for her, the government just deported her. although, one would hope that after the first offence, the guilty party would understand that sort of behaviour is not acceptable. but after reading through the list of charges and conviction, there are a few (of all races) who just didn't get it the first time. i find that sad and disturbing that there were multi-repeat offenders. the ones who dont care will continue and end up finding a better way to build the mouse trap so they dont get caught again. we all need to do our parts to help the COs for them and for the future of our environment. and if that means kicking a few a$$es, call james or throw a glass jar of eggs at their head. i've heard this works

i'm so sorry Lynn. I know we talked a little about it the night we went to the concert. unfortunately this is something i see on a daily basis and the prognosis is rarely good with pancreatic cancer. i know words are never enough and there really was a reason i said i hope you get out to see her within a month or so if you could. bless you for going to to meet her and offer your strenght. maybe there will be a miracle in the prayers we send.

definately some great responses. $.25 flies. that's funny. i dont dare ask how much the movies were or gas prices at the time. it is funny how some people manage to save money and AC and I spend $700 in a few months. i do end up hoarding materials, buying stuff on sale that i know i dont need but might some day and even if i dont have a use for it right now. i might find one. i still have micro twist, which i have no idea what it is. but i'm brainstorming on a usage. SW - i'm a girl, of course i like shiny things. i just stay out of conventional girl stores.

true, but i wouldnt want a militant facist CO running around with his shorts on fire looking for anything to nail someone on either. there needs to be a middle ground

i like to be creative. i like to buy shiny things and the shiny materials are cheaper than buying shoes and jewellery. i love being able to catch fish on something i created. i have met a great bunch of people and found new and different patterns through fly swaps with the UK boys - i even won a mug i can say that i do not save money or time. the best days fishing... my friend has fly fished for 30 years and almost every time we go out and HE catches fish, not me. so last summer, i was killing time and tied up a strange green and yellow thing for pike at Chestermere. he calls me up and we head out for pike in the weaselhead. his theory is, if you dont get a strike in the first 6is casts, either change where or what you are fishing with. he decided for some reason or another to chuck hardware for the afternoon and he had on some rubber squid pattern. i stood on the bank and watched him for his first 6 casts. nothing. so he moved up the river a bit. i move in, exactly where he was standing with my ugly green and yellow streamer. he looks at me like, i just had that spot, but whatever, try it if you want. 2 casts and fish on. he takes a picture, i toss the pike back and he heads back to his spot. i hear, i told ya, 6 casts, just not MY six casts. only fish of the day too. i burst out laughing and gloated for the rest of the afternoon. i had never out fished him. probably won't happen ever again. but that is another reason why i tie. pure satisfaction. also, i like the fly swaps

Poaching Convictions From Fisheries And Oceans
ladystrange replied to Weedy1's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
i read through a bunch. it is interesting that there are a number of people who have commited and pled guilty to repeat offences. either the fines arent high enough or some community service is needed to go along with the fines. obviously fines alone are not working. -
the co and staff that i have met and talked to in the castle area spend most of their time running down atv people ignoring the rules - like it is an 'off road' vehicle, therefore, keep it off the road and on the specifically marked trail system, and out of the rivers. then there are the wayward grumpy bears who think the ski hills is a heck of a place to live, which needed to be run off with bear dogs. during the fire shut down, they spent time on rotation on access roads to keep people out of the closed area. which of course was needed, but then left the rivers that were still open, unchecked. lack of staff is a big problem but it isnt like there is a big paycheck involved either. you have to go to school before you can get the job but the cheque is barely enough to cover your student loans never mind cost of living. unfortunately it seems of all the money we pay for hunting and fishing licenses ends up in the general revenue account for other things and not funding what it is supposed to. a lot of the places dont have cell coverage. so if i'm up on the other side of the ridge on the gardner, forget getting a hold of anyone to report. i'd have to hike out, drive 30min to the gravel pit and hope for a good cell phone day. by the time anyone gets up there, the offender would be long gone or hiding off somewhere. i guess that is where photos and plate numbers are good if you can get them. i don't think that the problem isnt that the officers dont take the rules seriously, there just comes a point for everyone on some day when you are at work and you just think - &@$# it. ok, buddy, thanks for letting us know you made a mistake. fill out the form and dont do it again.

i guess it looks like we may need a warm body and some dead flies. so i'll throw my hat in the ring. 9 might not be too bad for a beginners swap
