  1. LOL. too funny. but in all seriousness. just get out there, talk to people on the river, watch what others are doing, watch their casting, look at the bugs, over turn some rocks, ignore the dead gopher or cat floating down the river, ask questions while you are out there. observe, listen, learn you can ask all the questions you want here and you will get some decent answers but it will never replace first hand knowledge at the time. conditions change and so do techniques. what worked on a hot sunny slow day isnt going to work at -10. spend time catching the trees, grass, kids, dogs etc behind you, apologize profusely to the owners/parents. at some point you figure out how not to cast into the garbage behind you. go and explore a small stream or smaller river in different areas, try difffernt fish. talk to the people who have been fishing the river for the last 30 years. try joining something like the hook and hackle club. you may not tie flies and you dont need to, but you will get a lot of information most importantly, dont get discouraged because you didnt catch a fish on your day on the Bow
  2. A menace to society requires police raids in the future causing mahem death and distruction. the new scourge and plight against man kind - winos and soda freaks unite underground to build *** A NEW coke lab *** who needs meth junkies and crack addicts. take away the coke, the beer and other carbonated beverages and there will be some serious home brew happening what's next ban the sale of sugar and yeast. while we are at it, might as well plug up all the cows and hope the world's termite population never farts at once. i'm seeing a remake of demolition man. i love denis leary's character sorry this one i'm not supporting to prevent global warming from putting the next ice age off from 80,000 years to 100,000 years. i just don't care that much. and getting rid of all carbonated drinks, isnt going to make the weather any better.
  3. i remember that show. i loved it
  4. oh good, i was thinking rock cod as well but not as red as the ones i've caught near vancouver.
  5. i dont know much about Dave but i do know two of his guides. by reputation only. one of them is very good and he's a local calgary boy
  6. lol. nice one. if it were true, i'd vote for him. better the devil you know than the devil you don't
  7. not going until the 20th, a few weeks yet 30cm is 12inches, so you were looking at between 14.5 and 17 inches or there abouts. good sizes
  8. lol, nice hijack bernie. usually if you have a new message it will pop up on your screen. but if you have any messages waiting to be read, you can open it from new messages. i've never had any problems with crowds down there, except the roads and the carbondale by the nabor gas plant but usually just from atv idiots... abusing the river. and everytime i've fished the lynx i ve been the only person on it other than my buddy from castle mtn resort. id like to hit the falls on west castle this year. maybe early sept... i dont know
  9. email sent, done my part. i'm all for reconstruction and restocking
  10. a friend of mine works the stampede every year... i can ask, but no promises.
  11. Brian, 1 actually have 2 trips this summer. the second one will be to the castle/carbondale area. tentative date will be august 15th but i am waiting for the other guy to get back to me. i will let you know in case you feel like joining us. not much need to do any guiding, i know the gardner, carbondale and lynx fairly well. these 2 have their hearts set on the highwood. thanks for the offer bernie. i go south on a regular basis. july is a mess for me this year but august is looking good for plenty o trips to the southern rivers. i'm always looking for someone to fish with. sorry, i cant afford to send a ticket to you Dutch someone has sent me a pm and i will accept their offer for help on the highwood. but both of us have limited experience. all i need is a decent access point. please send me a pm, i'm not looking for a secret spot, just an area with decent access and a stretch with some pools. i can only think of one off the top of my head.
  12. groan... that's a knee slapper
  13. Last fall i volunteered some time for the United Way and we auctioned off items. I offered a day trip on the Highwood, I originally had someone lined up to give me a hand but they have just cancelled. unfortunately, i dont know the Highwood very well. the person who bought it gave the trip to her daughter and son in law. He fly fishes, she doesnt so i'm going to have my hands full with instructing her. If anyone who knows the Highwood somewhat well and would like to spend the day fishing and offering 'pointers' to the son in law, it would be greatly appreciated. Sunday July 20. I will be driving and supplying lunch and snacks for the day.
  14. i managed to get the afternoon of the 11 off from work. so i am clear after 1pm through to sunday night.
  15. as long as you promise to stop and change my tires
  16. there has been a few but this is the only one i could remember http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...t=0&start=0
  17. if by emergency she means 911 calls only, no plan required. by some legislation somewhere all phones must be able to call 911 whether on a network and activated or not.. if she means emergency as in 'honey i need a loaf of bread and quart of milk can you stop at the store on your way home', i had telus on a pay as you go plan for 10cents a minute for a number of years but my calling and text msg out grew that so i switched to a plan. i paid something like $50 and had a 50$ credit applied to the phone but that was 5 years ago. but at least you get the full telus service and coverage
  18. brian... you'd fish chocolate milk if it had fish in it
  19. castle/carbondale area south of crowsnest has specified atv areas and some of the trails do run along the river. the COs do heavily enforce the atv rules so make sure your insurance and registration is up to date and dont drive on the main roads. lots of random camping and provincial camp grounds to chose from.
  20. here's another site for you to try. http://ukflytying.proboards100.com/index.cgi? a few of them over the pond post in the fly tying bench as well. i'm sure there are a few patterns of boobies around. anyway, they are a great group of people and can give you lots of info on fishing boobies and blobs.
  21. Clive, if you happen to talk to TG, mention i'm looking for him. i never did get his number when he showed up to the hook and hackle meeting. i was also supposed to take him out for pike looks like fun was had by all.
  22. strangely i have n problem bonking ocean or delta fish but i cant wack a rainbow in lake... how odd is that. i guess growing up on the coast, you learn, catch a fish. bonk it for dinner. i remember the days when there was no shortage of salmon or sole to catch, crab and clams were abundant. thanks for the report rick, sounds like a great time
