  1. One would think with the highest #s of redds above 22x particularly reach #3 that it might be prudent to have a closure all the way to 22x if we really want to protect and improve the fishery. I do not think you would get much of a protest from the Guides its more likely to come from your average angler. There is still a lot of fishable water all the way to Carseland. Sometimes posting this type of information while very educational tends to put more less caring anglers on sections of water like the Mallard point channel at the most critical time ie fall spawning. The same problem has been going on for years at the Highwood confluence in the spring as the Rainbows stack up waiting for increased flows to begin their journeys up the Highwood and the #s of caring fisherman fishing this area just seems to increase. Sorry for the Rant...... hope I haven't offended any groups or individuals
  2. Fish really don't care what it looks like .... flies are mostly tied to catch fly fisherman... the rattier they get the better they work
  3. I would think you have a lot of birds nesting in the area in the spring so probably best to leave the channels alone through there. Pre-2005 flood I use to do a lot of early morning floats from Blackfoot down always had great fishing along through the golf course side with lots of buckets that were perfect for streamering out big Browns and Bows along with the occasional pike.....there was never an urge to fish the west bank at that point in time and a much smaller yellow dingy hatch to deal with too!
  4. Yes fish out of a lake like Beaver tend to taste like the snails they eat...... yuk .... back to your question.... Brookies when I catch them in the mountain criks, always for lunch that day
  5. Now that you've gone to the darkside what fly gear have you got for sale or to give away........lol
  6. Angler, Spores may lie dormant for up to 30 years so its quite possible it was already there
  7. Much more likely from hatchery fish stocked in a lake (Johnson etc....) but its possible a traveling angler may have brought it via dirty equipment from Colorado,Montana or elsewhere
  8. I believe if my failing memory serves me well that the hatchery was shut down for PIN virus around the mid 80's about the time they apparently stopped stocking those wild rainbows in Johnson perhaps there were other things besides Fish Aids present at the time....... makes one wonder doesn't ....
  9. Spores can reside in the mud for more than 20 years and are so far have been impossible to eradicate so they may have been there all along and the government does not always tell you everything they know ..... just saying
  10. In that its in a lake that has been stocked its likely the fish were infected prior to stocking which is the way it has been spread primarily in the past most notably in Colorado even after they knew the fish were infected at the hatcheries...... but continued to stock them
  11. Got a buddy with a bad knee.... take him fishing
  12. +1 on simms with their warranty
  13. Atomic sunsets.... looks like you guys had a good trip....off to chase Roosters tomorrow
  14. Yes that's from the upper pond judging from the background, haven't been down since 2 years ago myself
  15. as the song goes..... you call some place Paradise.... Kiss it Goodbye
  16. Just look for the bait tubs :$*%&:
  17. He dips his flies in Curare just like his Arrows
  18. Personally 4x-5x(depending on fly size) and 10 to14 feet in rivers longer on lakes.... but I biggest concern is making my first cast my best one...
  19. I believe the main reason it was posted was because there is a large number of deer on the island and there was an issue of unleashed dogs chasing them. Easiest way to control this was no access to all..... not as good water now post flood as it was prior....
  20. Despite a number of choices a 490 RPL is still the favorite
  21. Its crazy up there ..... just got off the horn with a pal who's a safety inspector up there... he said most of the town is evacuated north into the camps but its a mess..... a good chunk of Mac is gone....
  22. Sage warranties- Very happy with their service, sent rods back on my own as I was advised by a local shop that they wait until they have a #s of rods to send before they ship. Cost is more but not ridiculous, sent tracked shipping via Canada post .... mentioned I needed if possible the one rod for a salt trip in late May the other whenever, older XP I had forgotten about...IMAO.... received the salt back within two weeks of sending and the other arrived today which had to be built because of the age... less than a month total.... well worth the price as they were useless broken and one was a self induced cluster ?%#@ so not the rods fault.... as if it ever is .... might have to sell off a few RPLs and get some of the latest models...... hold it I was getting silly for a second!
  23. Keep in mind ones thoughts on a rod will vary depending on what you use regularly.... if you use a super fast action (Sage TCR) you likely won't like slow actions unless you slow every thing down vice versa if you always use a glass or bamboo... generally slower and softer you wont like a fast action... its all subject to the user and although the shootout is more independent than most tests in magazines..do they still make those?....at the end of the day they are trying to sell rods whether in a shop..aka Yellowstone Angler or advertising in a magazine in which case they don't like to pan anything too much
  24. I'd always heard that country tail was better
  25. We used to take out where Nosehill creek comes in but that was a few grey hairs ago
