  1. Remember its not always what you use but what you do with it and practice your line control as a lot of the time people do not realize a fish has taken their fly! ie "you drive for show and putt for dough" do not worry about making the long cast as much as fishing effectively with a shorter cast. Again as Rickr said tag along with a more experienced angler if possible.
  2. Go one step further and cover it in tin and you will not leave lead in the river
  3. And most of those tend to have a red tinge to their fins and hang out in back waters ie Esok Lucius.....put one in the weigh net on the weekend just shy of 6kg=13lbs taped at 35 inches so a 8-10 lb bow is rather rare in the Bow
  4. Much like the other trout strains as they get bigger their diet tends to change. If you want to catch bigger cuts fish streamers as the big boys prefer meat including their own young Caught many a big cut fishing for bullies not to say they won't take a dry, nymph etc.... after all they tend to be opportunists because of their location
  5. grit grit grit comes with silty water as does great fishing
  6. This can only be determined by you, all the info above is good and correct but it gets down to where you will spend the majority of your time fishing and the techniques you plan to employ on these waters, otherwise using the proper tool for the job. If you rarely get on the Bow than a 7 is overkill unless you are target Bulls on the mountain streams whereas if you plan to fish in high water and bankpound streamers then its the right tool for the job. If you get the right 7wt you can even use it for bones in the tropics wind permiting. Hope this helps Tight lines!
  7. Its a cannon, great for punchin through those breezes we seen to get whether its a hopper, a streamer or a crazy charlie.
  8. All of the above with repetition repetition repetition..... you will be rewarded
  9. Rod should be fine for dries, nymphs and light streamers(not bank pounding) Not sure what line you have but assume its a dry which will be fine for dries and nymphing. You can use a longer leader and weighted flies for streamering but don't over do it as it is only a 5/6 wt. Tight lines
  10. Psssst... Try Frenchmans but do not tell anyone I told you about it
  11. Yeah the Rainbows are easy its the Bulls you have a hard time with!
  12. Nice fish Dr. R ....I wonder where thats from.....
  13. Great Video The older I get the more I like that stream.
  14. G4-Pro/Guide model go snug and trim your toe nails!
  15. So anyway Dune sorry about your rod, glad you got a loaner and caught a few fish now what were we talking about.
  16. Rules of engagement: After reading of Dunes plight and commenting on the lack of river etiquette I had a interesting occurrence today while floating on the lower end of the river. I was fishing with a pal on the lower end of a long side channel. We had been fishing the pool for about 1/2 an hour when out of bush come to lads armed with fly rods, no big deal when they cross the side channel above us and to the side we are on and we figure they will just continue on past us to the next run below. Much to our surprise when they both wade on in right above us and start to fish the prime water of the pool. Needless to say we were flabbergasted and decided they just did not know any better. We did not say anything to them and continued to fish catching a couple more fish each while they were there. After about 20 minutes they reeled up(no fish, instant Karma gonna get you) and left heading on down river. I am kinda hoping one of them will read this and finally figure it out. However it just goes to show you bad manners can hit you from any angle not just from drifters.
  17. That totally sucks (fly rod) however I think the only way to improve the etiquette on the river is to practice it ourselves and make sure anytime we take a newb fishing make sure we set a good example whether we are floating or walk and wading. Send me a wire if you need a loaner I have a few that need a work out and with the snow about to happen they will not be used for a few months.
  18. Vary the length according to the water depth you are fishing and twitch the hopper from time to time as this will induce strikes(sometimes very aggressive) both to the hopper and the nymph.
  19. Cayo Largo or Jardines Brings back good memories<`)(((((><
  20. Get your self a GPS (I like the Garmin 60csx) load your Canada Topo maps either from a disc or a site like Ibyscus and your good to go. Of course learning to use your GPS first would be smart! <")>>>><
  21. Besides the previosly mentioned and the many variations of the buggers you might add some clousers, spruce flies and zonkers
  22. I have a full arsenal of RPLs 4 through 9 , I also have some vps in matching weights but they feel slower, hold out for the real thing you won't regret it.
  23. Shhhhh,.....You may have said too much already
  24. I have had great success with having a streamer thrown in after a Bull was in the cutty chase mode, key I think is the second rod was set up and manned by another angler and the casts were made while the cutty was still on or shortly after it was landed. Other wise I find your first few casts into a pool undetected are your best opportunities. Cutthroat catching needs to be your second priority if you want to catch them on a regular basis.
  25. Darwism at work - Float Tube on the Bow shows common sense is not so common!
