  1. The guys I tie for usually ask for Royal Coachman, Royal Wuffs and Adams and comment on good results.
  2. Topping off the box with a few Drakes for local streams. Should do a few cripples for after the hatch.
  3. Yep at the time my Grass rod was fine, no sparks or noise.
  4. Brother in law and I where on the Kettle river years back when a big boomer came through. We heard this loud clicking sound and then there where actual arches between his three upper guides. Needless to say he dropped his rod and we hightailed it to the trees and the storm hit. Those upper guides where discolored when we recovered the rod. Rather scarey.
  5. My Korkers have run me through 3 seasons so far, but I find them a bit heavy. Not sure if I will get another season out of them, Those Vapors are getting good reviews and I like the idea of a lighter boot.
  6. If nothing else post pictures on social media. Shaming helps even if they are not caught.
  7. Try Fishtails, I know they do courses. its on fly rods but its all the same really. I posted a build on my blog of a Spey rod. Pretty much shows the steps on a big rod.
  8. Just a thought, I'm not a master caster but, we all develop habits. Tailing loops can be caused by the tip of the rod dipping under the Straight Line Path of your cast, you could be starting your forward cast to early before the line straightens out. It can also be the cause of too large a casting arch. Try giving it a bit more time and pause before the forward cast. Lawn casting can help. Also try false casting with a rod length of line and slowly increase the amount of line out. Keep it easy and smooth and keep your rod butt in a straight line When I get a new rod and line combo I like to actually cast with my eyes closed at one point to "feel" the sweet spot when the line straightens out. Not sure if this helps
  9. Our family prayer's are with you.
  10. Beauty of a Trout, wonderful post. Wonder if these old legs can climb that high.
  11. Three years ago I called in so many that I ended up with a nice reward. Enough $ for a new Loop Opti Stream fly rod with some left over for fly tying goodies.
  12. Please be pro active out there and take a stand. Our Trout and other species are under a lot of pressure this year with water levels low and temperatures high. Taking illegal catches will put too much pressure on a delicate balance that could effect our fisheries for years to come. https://www.solgps.alberta.ca/programs_and_services/public_security/Pages/ReportAPoacherProgram.aspx 1-800-642-3800 or #3800 if calling from a TELUS cell phone Albertans can help protect fish and wildlife resources through the Report a Poacher program. 16. You might want to check out Garmin's Basecamp to see if it is the type of thing that world work for you.
  17. Please keep safe everyone. Hope the drift boat comes out in recoverable state.
  18. A city boy went to visit his country cousin. He talked constantly about the virtues of city living and how deprived and uneducated county folk where. They walked across the field and the country boy bent over quickly several times, pick something up and quickly hide them in his pocket. What are you hiding there said the city dweller. "Haven't you heard of the smart pills we grow here? they will up you IQ" replied county. "Quick give me a few" said city and he popped a few of the large shiny brown pills in his mouth and started to chew. "Those aren't pills" he said spitting them out, they taste like rabbit sh#t. See they're working already said county smugly.
  19. How scientific studies work. A study was set up in regard to noise and frogs. In the control experiment a frog was subjected to a loud horn. The frog leap forward. The scientists then removed the frogs left leg. They sounded the horn again and the frog jumped forward again, although awkwardly. The scientists then removed the frogs right leg and sounded the horn again. The frog didn't jump. The Scientists concluded that if you remove both legs from a frog they go deaf.
  20. By the number of break in's it looks like an organized crew. We need some guys to do a watch of these places. Perhaps putting up some game cams.
  21. Or less, kind of like a cost of admission to dig up the back country.
  22. Actually I love a 6 foot rod for small water. Casts nice with less trouble with overhead bush. Less problems walking through the bush for this old dude. Plus a lighter rod in hand for a long day. I've never experienced any problems with roll casting at all. As a matter a fact I find I get smaller much tighter loops on the roll. Mind you the difference might be my 6 footers are Bamboo and Fiberglass giving me a bit slower cast. I could see a 6 foot fast Graphite harder to cast as it would be like a Tomato stake in hand. For graphite certainly stay in the 7 foot pocket, or at least one with slower action. I only like a faster rod in big waters. There are a lot of variables besides rod length to think about, your fly line can also change the action of your combo.
  23. Thanks for posting, fly fished for Lakers a few times on that lake, brought back memories. Not perused by many. Kudos on the video.
  24. Along with locks the SPOT Trace is a great way to go. Hide it in your unit. Sends you an alert text or message when it is moved with your unit, see where it is in real time on Google maps. You can follow and take any action you deem fit.
  25. Another one in the NW if you need it.
