  1. Knowing Ray he probably means the advice on dealing with bears.
  2. Incredibly nice guy.
  3. My take on AK's quill body BWO. DSCF0228.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr
  4. This is the parasite that caused the Yellowstone shut down last summer. Another good reason to keep cleaning your gear between water bodies. http://helenair.com/lifestyles/outdoors/fwp-detects-fish-killing-parasite-in-big-hole-river/article_7d809ff4-f40e-5675-8bc9-dc2d00d67c68.html

  5. Yeah, don't know that I'd drop grain weight vs adjusting cast though for the same reason you don't change your head when switching the sink rate of your tip. I had an iFlight for one of my rods and fished the same grain weight as I did the regular Flight on it.
  6. Not sure that dropping to a lower grain weight makes much sense. 300 grains is 300 grains regardless of whether it's sinking or floating - a pound of lead and a pound of feathers both weigh the same. The surface tension shouldn't make any difference when the head is in the air for your D loop.
  7. Yup, I think they'll take a page out of Trump's playbook and run solely on a negative platform of reversing everything and fear-mongering rather than anything positive.
  8. Actually what I've been seeing in various places online is that they aren't upset about the transition plan being fuzzy, they simply don't want it to happen at all. I don't think you were under the wrong impression
  9. Gold Bond is great to have up here too. Put it on your feet before you put your waders on and again at the end of the day. Your feet will thank you especially if you're camping and fishing for a week. Cod taught me that one.
  10. Winston 11'6 5wt Microspey with an Airflo Switch Streamer or a Scott 9'6" Radian with an OPST Commando.
  11. I don't know anything about the Beulah Platinum, but 325 grains seems pretty light for a 6wt. Have you tried a few different grain weights on it?
  12. Isn't there some alternate way of sending feedback? 9:30 on a Wednesday morning isn't exactly convenient for everyone...
  13. Make sure you fill out the survey because you know all the OHV groups will be too...
  14. A lot of guys use that plumber's tape that only sticks to itself. Can't remember what it's called, but it's sort of rubbery. Wrap it around your cork where you would normally pinch your running line and good to go. Haven't tried it myself but lots of guys on speypages swear by it. For the running line itself, I like the Airflo ridge stuff in the winter and prefer OPST Lazar line over Slick Shooter when it's warmer. The Lazar line is more expensive but you also get twice as much on a spool. Just cut it in half and put it on two reels or keep half on the spool for when the first half wears out.
  15. Another hatchery tested positive. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/whirling-disease-alberta-fish-salmon-trout-1.3931286
  16. Back when you used to sign in directly on the forum page there was a check box to keep yourself signed in. Are you signing out every time you leave the forum?
  17. Jake's gulp beetle?
  18. I don't think you'll find a p&s that'll do it. With DSLRs and some mirrorless cameras it's mostly so that a client can see what the photographer is capturing during a shoot. I don't think the folks who post tying videos on YouTube are using much more than a webcam so that should be ok. I think when Dave Bloom was tying at the Lethbridge show last year they were using the webcam from a Macbook Pro to project onto the big screen and it looked fine. I'd be willing to bet the webcam resolution will be better than the projector resolution.
  19. Never felt I needed an intermediate shooting head for the Bow. If you want to try something different check out the Airflo FIST Skagit heads - Float, Intermediate, Sink Three. http://airflousa.com/project/skagit-f-i-s-t/
  20. I think most of the companies invest in PR and promotion but didn't see the Calgary show as being worthwhile. A lot of people went there looking for deals on gear and flies since it felt more like a garage sale than an actual expo. No matter what, PR and marketing budgets are limited so you have to choose where to spend it wisely. Would you rather pay for a booth in Calgary or Denver if that's what it came down to? Notable companies that weren't at the last Calgary show but had been there previously include Simms, Loomis, and Echo/Airflo. I'd say those companies have healthy PR and marketing budgets and will be around a while but for whatever reason stopped coming here.
  21. That's what I'd rather see - manufacturer reps showing us their wares (the Far Bank aka Sage/Redington/Rio booth was a perfect example) with the ability to try some rods, destination lodge booths, guide companies, and conservation orgs. Add fresh seminars and demos into the mix and you have a great show. There are still a few problems though. If booth costs are too high then it's tough to justify the expense if you can't sell direct. You also have a number of reps who live quite a distance from Calgary - a couple of them are up in Terrace - and they also guide so you have to be able to schedule around them. It's not insurmountable, but it's also a lot more complicated than a lot of people think.
  22. This is the lamp I use: http://products.ottlite.com/p-408-natural-daylight-led-flex-lamp.aspx Got it at Michael's last year but not sure of the wattage or colour temperature.
  23. Just anecdotal, but I've always seen a lot more wildlife in K Country and I've always thought it was because there are a lot fewer people around than in Banff.
  24. Yeah, I ran into Kelly at Fish Tales the other day and that's what he said. Different venue this year too. Think he mentioned the German Canadian club.
  25. You don't cancel something if it's projected to continue making good money I think the show was stagnating and I'm pretty sure there were fewer exhibitor booths last year. I heard a number of people complain that they could never use the casting pond to try a rod because the same one or two guys were always up there all weekend. If you want to check out a good fly fishing event this spring head down to Lethbridge for the Chinook Waters conclave. I went for the first time last spring and had a great time.
