  1. Huh, haven't posted in a while so here's a bit of a pic dump from the past month. #keepemwet P8060008.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P8070010.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr Camp is set up and prepared for rain. 2. There's a chance we'll never know for sure how it was introduced. Instead of playing CSI: Bow River we need to get the word out about cleaning gear and ditching felt to slow/stop the spread to other water bodies. Hopefully the province will also let other groups like OHV users know that they should be cleaning their vehicles after every trip. Lots of Jeep guys I know like to drive around muddy from their last trip because they think it makes them look cool.
  3. Is it that fines aren't being handed out anywhere else or that they only make the news in RMH?
  4. Could've just as easily been a local angler who went south and brought it back. Either way it's time for everyone to be more diligent about cleaning gear between water bodies.
  5. So I guess the Liv will blow out every time there's a little rain now too. Awesome.
  6. Maybe you should read your post again. You equated putting a boat launch in the NW as an inconvenience issue. I said it's not an inconvenience issue, it's that no publicly accessible launches exist for that stretch. At all. Putting a launch in the NW opens up a new stretch of river to floating. It isn't about someone wanting a new launch so they don't have to drive a little further to get to an existing boat launch that already covers the same stretch of water. You're not doing a very good job then, because that is exactly how it reads. Look back at your earlier posts... Honestly, all that makes it sound like you just don't want to drive a few minutes extra to launch at 22X.
  7. Um, no. Adding a launch in the NW isn't about inconvenience, it's about giving people the ability to float a section that they currently cannot and spreading some of the boat traffic out. You want to add another launch a few km downstream from an existing launch in a section that is already accessible. Not the same coin at all.
  8. Or if they take the time to do it right then it won't be as badly affected by another flood. Big difference in how the 22X boat launch fared vs Police.
  9. I know that they have options of seizing equipment and anything else used in the act ie. their bike or vehicle can be seized if they used it to get to the river. I don't think they use the seizure option often if at all though because there's probably a ton more paperwork involved and a judge will probably just give their stuff back to them.
  10. There already are a lot of people who use that area for cycling and walking their dogs. I think they'd actually be opposed to putting a road leading to a parking lot and boat launch there. 194th also ends at the boundary to Fish Creek Park, so putting anything in there would be a provincial thing and not the city, unless they cut through part of the gravel pit. I wonder how the people who live in Chaparral would feel about the extra traffic as well.
  11. There are probably a number of people who don't even know that any fishing regs exist let alone where to find them online. Others simply don't care.
  12. That's Max and exactly the kind of person he is.
  13. LOL. I believe that the map is not necessarily 100% accurate in where the markers are. Doesn't really need to be. The station could just as easily be at the Centre Street bridge and it wouldn't really make much difference for the purpose of the app.
  14. I think you meant to say slammed and murdered out.
  15. Ray, I think this is my new favourite description of the Castle.
  16. Had a feeling something like that would turn up. Just couldn't picture mama bear running to attack them out of nowhere if all they were doing was sunbathing like they claimed.
  17. The ones at K7 were there on the weekend - I mean the people were there. Guessing a lot of people timed it out so they'd have their spots for the long weekend coming up. It's amazing the size of some of the RV villages you see up there and up the Dutch road, especially the further up you get.
  18. If you believe where they show it on the map in the AB Rivers app it's around the Edmonton Trail bridge.
  19. Remember to actually fish the fly. If you see a fish following but not taking then vary your strip speed or do something else to change up the movement of the streamer. That's why you get a lot of hits at the bottom of a swing - the fish has been following your streamer during the swing and the change in movement entices it to hit.
  20. I find it's more effective to talk like Mickey Mouse. Maybe we'll have to do a side by side test one day and see which works best.
  21. Yup, they design some great tapers but the lines themselves leave something to be desired. I've been slowly switching everything over to Aiflo and SA.
  22. If they look like "accidental" poachers - people who don't know any better - then I'll talk to them. For example, saw a young kid with his parents carrying a rod and a bag of marshmallows toward the river. I mentioned to them that they were only allowed to use artificial lures without any scent on the Bow. The kid looked pretty heartbroken since they didn't have anything else, so I dug out a couple heavier conehead streamers from my fly box and gave them to him. In the case of guys like you ran into who obviously don't care I wouldn't bother talking to them and just call RAP.
  23. Here are the regs for the Highwood. If in doubt, call it in to RAP and they can tell you if the regs aren't being broken. Highwood River from headwaters downstream to Kananaskis Country Boundary & tributaries (except Storm Creek) June 16 to Aug. 31 – Brook Trout limit 2; Other Trout limit 0; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; Bait Ban. Sept. 1 to Oct. 31 – Brook Trout limit 2; Other Trout limit 0; Mountain Whitefish limit 0; Bait Ban. Nov. 1 to June 15 – CLOSED from Kananaskis Country Boundary downstream to 500 m above the mouth & tributaries (except Sheep River). June 16 to Oct. 31 – Trout limit 0; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; Maggots are the only bait allowed and only in the river from Aug. 16 to Oct. 31. Nov. 1 to June 15 – CLOSED within 500 m of the mouth (See Bow River – the portion from the Western Headworks Diversion [W.H.D.] Weir downstream to Carseland Weir.)
  24. Hopefully like speeding tickets (going 50+ km/h over the posted limit) and DUIs there will still be a certain threshold that results in an automatic court appearance. Basically, going a bit off trail onto the grass = ticket but driving up and down a river = court appearance and fine.
