  1. You're probably going to get 10 guys who own TFO rods tell you to get a BVK and same goes with other fly rod brands. But none of those people are you and might not have the same rod preferences. The better option is to go to one of the fly shops in Calgary and tell them your price range, where you plan on using it, etc. and they'll grab the rods that best match your criteria for you to test for yourself so you can pick the rod that best suits you.
  2. I collected three samples from mountain streams for this on the weekend. They already have more than enough samples from the Bow
  3. Bought one of them fancy pants new fangled underwater pitcher takin' machines and realized I hadn't taken any underwater pitchers yet. All three shots are the same fish, just did a spray and pray hoping that at least one would turn out. 4. Simms Vapor boots. I started out wet wading in sandals as well but after slicing my foot open on something decided I needed something that would offer better protection. I've also heard that Five Ten Canyoneer shoes are supposed to be a good wet wading option but haven't tried them myself.
  5. Yeah see, you missed my point. You said that any rod will catch fish and you'll love it. Yes any rod can catch fish but you will not necessarily love it, otherwise we wouldn't have so many different rods out there with very different actions and tapers. Your preference is for a BVK and that's cool. Other people have cast that rod and not liked it. Personally I hate all the new glass rods out there because they're too slow to suit my casting style but other people love them. On the other hand I bought a Sage Method a few years back because I liked the way it cast in the parking lot, but once I got it out on the water I totally hated fishing it because it was too stiff and didn't load well at short range. So, it's not all about buying the cheapest rod out there - if it were you could've bought something less expensive than the BVK - or even about buying the most expensive rod - if it were I'd still be fishing that Method - it's about buying the rod that best suits your casting style so that you'll enjoy using it. Luckily there are lots of different rods in different price ranges.
  6. Then why didn't you save even more money and buy a rod for under $100 from Walmart or Canadian Tire instead of a BVK?
  7. That was probably caused by a couple of storms dumping lots of rain that moved through on Thursday. The second storm that came through around 4pm completely blew out Dutch.
  8. So I was out in the same area the last two days. Looks like what many of the squatters did was put up a cheap tent in "their" spot and take their trailers away then brought them back again today for the long weekend. Actually had one give me a hard time this morning passing through to access Racehorse. I just smiled and waved and kept walking.
  9. If it works then roll with it, plus, hooking fish on the swing is way more fun than watching a bobber. A swinging nymph can imitate a hatching bug and fish like to chase things.
  10. I would but unfortunately I only fish old cutty streams.
  11. The RVs getting notices were on Saturday along Racehorse. Sure would be a shame if while they were "vacated" for 72 hours if someone else dropped trailers off for 2 weeks... And for anyone keeping track, that means those RVs have to be gone on Canada Day long weekend
  12. A few pics from opening weekend. Got tired of lugging the bigger cameras around while fishing so I've been rocking one of those waterproof point and shoots. It has a pretty good macro mode so I've been taking lots of bug pics P6160003.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P6160004.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P6170006.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P6170008.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P6170014.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P6170017.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr P6170020.jpg by Marc Fossi, on Flickr My buddy just started fly fishing last summer and is starting to get the hang of it catching fish a lot more consistently. 13. Aren't rod days and classified waters tags different? Rod days are allotted to guides/shops/outfitters that allow them to host clients on the rivers. Classified waters tags are what an angler has to purchase on top of their license in order to fish certain rivers. In this case B.C. has limited the daily classified waters tags available to non-resident, non-guided anglers for the Michel, Wigwam, and Skookumchuck while increasing the number of rod days available. If the classified waters tags for your body of water are sold out for a particular day then you have to find a guide with available rod days in order to fish it.
  14. Yes there are people who pay the extra $20 per day. Whether or not it's worth it is entirely subjective.
  15. I don't have a link but that's what the CO told me when I asked the same question you did.
  16. Nah, haven't taken a swim due to my boots in more than 5 years. Ditching felt was the best decision I made for wading.
  17. The law is that they must vacate the area for 72 hours once the 2 weeks is up.
  18. That's what I said. She mentioned the reaction was not quite the same from many of the RVers
  19. Was out fishing the area on the weekend and ran into a CO who was giving RVers their 2 week notices. She was posting notices on the RV doors if they were absent and noting plates, descriptions, etc. Seems like enforcement on the eastern slopes is taking another step in the right direction.
  20. Last summer I wore Simms Vapor boots with Vibram soles on many of the east and west slope cutty streams and didn't fall in once. I've been wearing the Vibram soles since they came out and other than the first generation of them they've been a lot better than felt in every way - especially if you do a lot of walking between spots. I don't know, maybe I unconsciously adjusted my wading style over the years or something, but I've taken more unplanned swims on the Bow wearing felt soles than anything else, including the sandals I used to wear for wet wading.
  21. Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that they didn't have licenses either.
  22. If you report her it's pretty much guaranteed she'll know it was you if you already made a comment about it. Since you say she's an acquaintance that might not matter as much but think about any mutual friends you have who may no longer be your friends after.
  23. Fishing is always better than not fishing. Worst case you and your buddies get to spend a relaxing day hanging out on the water,
  24. Yeah there really aren't many "bad" fly rods any more, just rods that are more and less suited to a person's individual casting preferences.
