  1. Peter, I just opened the "No nymphers allowed" thread in Safari 10.1 and I can see the Youtube video. I think you might have a setting or plug-in that's preventing you from seeing it.
  2. Fish Tales just did a spey thing yesterday. Saw on Facebook that both Troutfitters and Outfly have something similar coming up in May.
  3. Years ago Gord Kennedy showed me how to make a loop by nail knotting some Maxima on to make the loop. Never had one fail and my nail knots suck. http://midcurrent.com/knots/putting-a-loop-in-the-end-of-fly-line-with-two-nail-knots/
  4. I just stopped buying Rio lines. They have some nice tapers but I'm not spending $100+ for a line that experiences a failure after a season any more. Have had much better luck with Airflo and SA (non-Sharkskin) lines.
  5. Support your local fly shop. You can look at the quality of the flies before you pay for them and they'll only charge your credit card while you're standing at the counter. If you live in Calgary it's not like you don't have a bunch of them to choose from...
  6. It's been around for a while. That's what I have on my winch. From what I recall when that drift boat got sunk a couple years ago the fire dept. wouldn't come out unless life was at risk or something. I was thinking AEP might if there's gas and oil leaking from the boat into the river.
  7. Yes. Back when I used to off road my group didn't allow anyone to use those for recovery. Anyhow, not sure if you can get a vehicle down to the bank since I'm not entirely sure where it is, but if it's possible and there's landowner permission I could round up a couple vehicles with winches. Safer and more powerful than a come along.
  8. Official announcement. http://www.backcountryhunters.org/bha_launches_four_new_chapters
  9. We had it at the TU BRC table. If you want some, let me or jpinkster know. They're pump sprayers with Quat in them. We put enough of it in the sprayer that all you have to do is fill with water to get the right dilution ratio.
  10. If it's in the Crow it's almost definitely in the Elk. Just far too many people going back and forth between those two systems for it not to be. I'll still be cleaning all my gear whenever I travel between the two though just in case If anything this should be showing us that these things are going to spread if we're complacent. WD almost certainly came up here from people fishing in Montana. Now they also have multiple cases of quagga and zebra mussels along with this new PKX thing. If we continue to be complacent then we'll end up with those up here too.
  11. Guessing that since it's a gov't agency there's probably a specific set of guidelines and circumstances where they're allowed to do that. Could be that this doesn't fall under those guidelines or they're making sure it does before they go through with it.
  12. At least someone doesn't have your same degree of blind trust: http://www.metronews.ca/news/calgary/2017/04/11/harvie-passage-bow-river-calgary-flood-project.html Look, we'd all like to see this get done. It isn't about stopping it from happening. It's about making sure they don't do a disproportionate amount of damage in the process. The best laid plans can be derailed by a few contractors willing to cut corners to complete the project faster if they're already under the time constraint of the in-stream work window.
  13. In that case you have to get permission from the landowner otherwise you're trespassing.
  14. If every project always worked within threshold limits then there would be no need for any regulatory enforcement/compliance. Since such a thing exists, then I'd suspect that sometimes there is a disconnect between the engineers or consultants who wrote the plans and the folks actually doing the work. Like bcube said, the only true vindication is if they show up on site after someone calls in a complaint when seeing significant turbidity and determine that they are within the thresholds.
  15. So OHVs or peoples' trucks in the water - bad. Backhoe in the water - ok.
  16. This sounds like the best solution for folks who want to fish down there. Just know that if you do happen to be trespassing at the time and spray the dog you're in the wrong and could be charged.
  17. Feel free to share it anywhere. I can say this mostly because I think I reviewed and edited it for him at least a dozen times
  18. Probably a good idea for people to read this: http://aep.alberta.ca/lands-forests/shorelands/water-boundaries.aspx
  19. Is there an official announcement? I've heard rumours but nothing concrete.
  20. Go into your favourite fly shop and ask them which service they use. Guides need someone very reliable since a missed or late shuttle reflects poorly on them and the shop and can result in loss of tip and repeat clients. That's what I did when I got my Watermaster and have since only used Mel.
  21. Already trying to make a difference. This ad will be aired on CJOC in Lethbridge. https://clyp.it/xciewks1#
  22. Well, even though I'm one of those socialist lefties I'll help you out. First, you can start by writing a letter to Mr. Jean as one of his voters stating that if he were to roll back all the changes that he would lose your vote. Second, if he does not change his stance and the WRP merges with the Conservatives you can buy a membership and support another leadership candidate - one who will not roll back the changes. Third, if you haven't already, fill out the survey stating your support for the changes. If the majority of the people who fill out the survey support the changes then no politician in their right mind would continue to say they'll roll them back. If all that fails I guess I'll see you at our next meeting, comrade
  23. Actually I don't think the new regs take effect until April 1st according to http://www.albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/
  24. Just realized something. There's nothing in the new regs about the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary...
