  1. Drift boat and trailer.....hands down. Use it, take care of it, and you will get most of your money out of it when and if you need to. Don't worry about the no experience thing, a few trips with someone who knows, and you will be doing great..... Pick up the book 'Float Fishing Strategies' by Neil Streeks.....read it. Warning, rowing can be addictive, some would rather row and enjoy watching their buddies catch fish....

    Some Hogs

Man, that warmed up my day...! Thanks for posting......awesome shots!!
  3. Update....Thomas traded to Dallas....Luongo won't even see him.....
  4. Roberto is thrilled, he is going home....no more frantic 8 hour one way flights to see his family twice a month during the season. He can round out his career and also be in his happy place. He gets to share the dressing room with Tim Thomas...they can talk about those heady days of 2011! Anyway, it's good for Roberto.......Canucks?.....only time will tell.
  5. Keep your NXT, it's gotten you in the game and will serve you fine for the coming season. It *might* not have the backbone to distance toss a big weighted bug with an indicator on a windy day, but it should be fine for everything else. Save your new rod money, hire a guide for a day, and take some casting lessons. Those two things will accelerate you into the world you want to be in, and will keep you there so you can only move forward. When you hire your guide, be up front with your capabilities, and let him know you want to learn first and catch fish second. He will then know what to do, and your day will be much better. Plus, don't worry, he will be putting you on fish all he can while instructing you. You will learn more in one day with a guide, then you would splashing about on your own for months. And don't forget, tip the guy at the end of your great day. I go 20%...but that is just me. We are lucky, some of the best freshwater float guides in the world are right here in Calgary......Terry at Fish Tales, Dee at Iron Bow, and Copper Johnny on this board are all guys I would spend the day with, without question. I know Terry also teaches casting, Dee I am not sure if he does, but he should, he is one of the best fly casters I have ever seen. And to echo Dhurst above, I know experienced fly fisherman who took casting lessons from Jim McLennan and came away better. Jim is a master, who will help anyone at any level get better!

  14. Fantastic, thanks for sharing! What a beauty........
  15. As long as your heat exchanger on your original furnace is good, you can keep it going. You probably need a thermocouple for your pilot light issue....you can use ATF fluid to lube your belt on the furnace motor to stop the squeaking, and you will see a lube fitting where you can oil the bearing on the fan shaft. Change your filter every 8 weeks in the heating season. Furnace motors are not expensive to buy on your own and replace. The markup on furnaces and installations is very high. As Tungsten says, finding someone in the HVAC field, or a plumber who can do some sheet metal work if needed is the way to go. I had an HVAC guru friend help my change out mine a few years ago. Went to high effeciency. Made a difference on the gas bill, but not as dramatic as I had hoped. We had to do some intake damper work as well to make it work better, and the returns had to be reworked.
  16. Thanks to all who came to the event last night. Approx 120 folks attended and enjoyed each others company and many shot glasses of rum were raised in Gord's memory. (Gord's three favorite rum's were supplied) Much friendship and food was in evidence and many memories were shared. 300 plus dollars was raised for Gord's SPCA Charity. A great laid back fun evening, and one Gord would have very much approved of.......
  17. Just a quick note to add, There has been an event organized for this coming Tuesday, October 22 at 6pm till 10. The venue is Jack Astors on Macleod Trail and Southland Drive SW. It's for whomever wants to go, friends, fishing buddies, customers, guides who worked with Gord, or those who just want to show up and remember a guy who was the Bow River's advocate and friend. There will be a small fee, $10 bucks at the door, which will cover appetizers, of which there will be plenty. Jack Astors is stepping out to help put on a great night. For more info on this event, just call West Winds Fly Shop 403 -278-6331 P.S. For those of you who may not have heard, Gord's funeral scheduled for this Saturday at 2pm at the McINNIS & HOLLOWAY Crowfoot Chapel has been postponed at the request of the family.
