  1. I have some too..... I like my older Scott 754 up on the Dogpound. I have a few Fenwick Feralite's...some from back in the day, and some I find at tackleswaps and get them for low dollars. The Fenwicks, are harder to find in lower line weights...most of what you see are 7 weights and higher. 5's and 6's were purchased in far fewer numbers....great rods all. The FF75 or (FF755 as the later ones were labled) is a great dry fly rod, even today. The FF75 was available in both 5 and 6 wt, they both fish fine with a 5. The later FF755 was a dedicated 5 wt..... I like my Feralites...
  2. Great shots ggp, I live close to the Bebo Grove and spend much time hiking in F/C.....it's a little piece of heaven right close.
  3. TysFlies, welcome to the forum, and wow...nice tie!
  4. Andy, ggp, Bird and Big Foamy, great stuff! Big Foamy, whats the 5/8ths box end wrench for?? Those flies on the styro block are living in fear man! Great ties by all of you, thanks for sharing!
  5. Great start to the year Andy and ggp! Thanks for sharing...!
  6. Amazing, truly......and thanks for sharing! Calender shot....
  7. EB, as far as the lines go, depends on your rod and what you want it do. As Uber says, the Grande lines are heavier by a half a size. Heavier froward too. I have a medium fast 5 wt, that I run a 4 wt Grande line on. It is happier and casts better with this set up, than it did with a 5 wt line. (for me) Some guys go the other way and run Grande lines on very fast rods so they can feel the rod load better. Best thing to do is take your rod down to FT and let Kurtis to lend you a reel and spool with both lines strung and you can go out to the street and try them. You will soon know which line works better for you. As far as the Trion goes, a friend has one and has had no trouble with it, 3 seasons in. It is quite heavy however for sure. Lamson, Naulitus, Galvan are all in the 'buy and forget' category. Redington Rise could be one to look at too, it's in the Trion price range, or close. That said, another friend who is the original ham fisted bodger has an Okuma SLV 56 and has been beating on it for 3-4 seasons, and it STILL runs fine, and it cost well under a hundred bucks. For a cast reel, it's tough and the spools are really affordable....and it weighs half what a Trion does.
  8. Great tie lumpy...cool fly. Love the history that goes with......
  9. There are many, many great books on Tying...Charlie Craven, Skip Morris, Randall Kaufman have all written masterpieces.... One that really stuck with me was 'Fly Tying Methods' by Darrel Martin. He stresses materials handling to the highest order and is a great writer as well. It dates from 1987, but is still relevent today. Been reprinted a couple times. Find one....get in.
  10. Galvan Brookie is a very nice piece of kit....! Held one at Troutfitters, it just kept talking to me....'take me out of here, take me home' I have a Sage Click II on my 2 weight.
  11. Well done! I picked up some of these for my relatives Xmas tree's, or to use for whatever as decorations. Sure hope the young man gets his Norvise, I think he will put it to very good use in the future!
  12. Happy Birthday ggp, and thanks for sharing the great ties and inspiration....

    New Vise

Can't go wrong with a Dyna King or a Regal for home tying. (it's all about the jaws) I like my Renzetti Traveller for when I am on the road. One day, I might find a LAW. I got to ty on Lornce's LAW at the Fly Expo last January and it really is as nice a piece of equipment as folks say .....
  14. Eastern Rises is indeed fantastic, and Trout Bum Diaries Vol 1 Patagonia is pretty good too. Only problem with Eastern Rises, your friend will be frantically trying to raise the 10K so he can actually go!
  15. Thanks for creating and sharing! Really well done...(and great inspiration too)

  17. No, but I first read of it in the Nick Karas book many moons ago, and have always always wanted to go. As far as trips go, it is not as expensive as some might think.......
  18. To add, as far as schools go, the two major High Scools in that area, Viscount Bennett and Ernest Manning are gone, Viscount closed and Manning closed and moved moved much further west over to Aspen Glen. Your kids, will be bused a long way to High School, either Central Memorial, Western Canada, or to the new Ernest Manning. Looking on a map, these distances (actually ALL map distances in Calgary) may deceive you...it may only look like an inch or two on the map...but you need to come here and drive them yourself. Are you working downtown? Most folks take the LRT.......parking is 400 plus a month DT... and no LRT in Glamorgan, your driving to Westbrook, 10-15 mins....each way in traffic.
  19. I grew up in Lakeview....just south of Glamorgan..I can remember going to Weasel Head when we first moved there in 1965 with a .22 rifle, and a fishing rod....it was pretty wild there back then in that part of the Elbow Valley.....and the keg parties, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles just added to the flavour of the place. Fishing the Elbow River from Weasel Head to the Army Base was never really good, except for spawning pike in the canals in June.... It was/is much better further west, from Twin Bridges downstream, south of Highway 8. Access is much harder now in this area. I would not base a house purchase in Glamorgan based on Elbow River access upriver from the Glenmore Res..... It's a nice area to be sure, but, Glenmore Park (a nearby large park on the north shore of the Reservoir) ) is a very busy overrun place these days. However, Weasel Head and hiking or biking to the south side of the Res is very enjoyable during the week, very busy on weekends... IMHO
  20. Deer Run, Parkland, Acadia, Maple Ridge, Fairview....for S.E. Woodlands, Oakridge, Woodbine, Southwood...for S.W. IMHO
  21. Dream trip? Can't just have one....how bout 3? -New Zealand....I'll need 3 weeks -Patagonia.....4 weeks required -Kamchatka.....actually scratch that one for awhile given current events, I'm thinking God's River, Manitoba instead....
  22. Ditto, I have a few Signature Series IM6 rods...in 4, 5 ,7wt and a 5wt Finesse. For what I paid for them, they are a nice casting piece of gear. I have mostly Sage and a single Winston, but the TFO SS IM6 rods and the Finesse surprised me with how nice they worked on the water! I have no experience with thier faster action rods......never casted them.
