  1. I hear Revy is where it's at, they keep getting pumped daily with snow. But much too far for a day trip.
  2. How does one compete in the nationals? Is there a regional qualifier or something of the matter? I would hope it would be a local or board member who wins. Please keep us informed of how we can volunteer, I would be willing to help.
  3. Headed cat boarding tomorrow, excellent surprise Christmas present from the wife. I will be with only the second group to head to the area in the cat, so should be really good. Can't wait! Then off to whitefish for 5 days on Saturday with a stop off in fernie on the way back.
  4. I have the travel light silver sonic waders. Love them. Super light, seem to be really tough, only thing I don't like is te suspenders, but I think they are different on orvis other models. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me.
  5. Like Tungsten said, fly fishing is very personal and choosing a fly rod, reel and line is different for everyone. My suggestion: If they have shown some interest in fly fishing then why not purchase them a 1 day fly fishing course at one of the local fly shops (CP, fish tales, hansons etc?) These usually run all day, and go through all of the basics. In addition you also get to try out many different fly rods, to get a better feel for what you like. These courses usually run about $125, if your goal is to spend $300 then you could also get them a gift card for $100 at the same shop for the purchase of thier future fly rod. Most shops will usually give you a discount on your first setup as well.
  6. Awesome photos, in fact so good I went back and looked at mine and they all look like crap now. You were able to capture so much more than the typical grip and grin. You should consider doing a workshop....seriously....something I would definitely sign up for. Is that a Yellowstone cutt or golden in series 6?
  7. Holy smokes, have no idea how those top two have gained 1700 votes in a week.
  8. Gained 300 votes in a couple of days, gaining ground.
  9. Darn it, can one of you mods move this to the fishing related topic, put it in the wrong one. I blame it on my iPhone and huge fingers.
  10. Was at F3T yesterday and learnt that, TUC was accepted as 1 of 6 projects who are in the running for a $100,000 grant from the Shell Fuelling change project. Their aim is to increase flows of the Mallard side channel to stable rate by reducing sediment that has built up in the floods of 2005 and the last two high water events, hopefully increasing uitable spawning habitat. (you can read more about the goals on the website. The overall project will cost $200,000 so this would go a long way. They are currently in 5th. Here are the steps. 1. Go to http://fuellingchange.com/ 2. Register at the top right, this will instantly give you 10 votes. 3. Once you are registered select the blue water tab 4. Select the $100,000 prize amount. 5. Now you should see the Mallard point project. Additionally anytime you purchase anything from a shell store: gas, chocolate bar, pop, smokes whatever, you can go back to the website, enter your receipt number and you will get another 10 votes. Cheers!
  11. A change in regulation would definitely prevent redds from being disturbed but I think Flyon hit the true nail on the head. Education is far superior to a general closure, and would help all waterbodies. I would like to see something similiar to the online hunter safety program. You must complete the online Angling education program before you are able to purchase a license. It would be good for 5-10 years (allowing for updates), and could potentially stop a lot of the things that we complain about on this board. Could cover tons of topics: identification, handling, etiquette, spawning habits, regulations, water safety, invasives, RAP just to name a few. This could also be an extra revenue stream for SRD for our already cash strapped conservation officers and biologists.
  12. Why only protect brown trout? Would it not be better to protect all species? I'm sure the bows and whites could equally use the rest from all the anglers. If a new change were going to happen, I think SRD would probably look to create continuity, ie: they would most likely adopt the NW regulations. Closed Oct 1 - Nov 30 AND Apr 1 - may 31
  13. Awesome footage Dave! Can't wait to see the completed film.
  14. Hopefully the cooling weather will kill most of the spores, unfortunately spores are unusually hardy, so some will survive a cold winter.
  15. That is a very nice Caddis Jordo! Have you ever tried tying it with an Etha Wing instead of the CDC? I bought a couple of etha wing caddis this summer and found the they floated really well and fish absolutely loved them. Might have to try tying them myself this winter.
  16. I don't need a box, just shove all my san juan worms in my pocket and go.... Nothing like a quintuple san juan worm rig to slay fish. Just remember to whip it behind your head 500-600 times. Create that worm hatch.
  17. I think the 3:30ish mark is my fav. Dave did you sneak up that close to that fish, or did it move into position beside you? Great shots, well planned, nice edits, love how most of the focus was on the fish and the take. Looks like a snorkel might have been handy at 1:30. When you headed back?
  18. Hank Patterson episode 3 is out.
  19. Holy Jebus that thing is huge. Awesome fish Paula, and such an amazing picture.
  20. Seen a lot if posts here and on Alberta outdoorsmen forum, I found that being informed is important before jumping to conclusions. Found this on the SRD site. http://www.srd.alberta.ca/FishWildlife/WildlifeDiseases/documents/SaprolegniosisFactSheet-MAR-2010.pdf The only thing I was left wondering is why there seems to be a greater occurrence this year? Cyclical? More large browns spawning? Great spore survival?
  21. You sure do find some fine looking fish and spots Rick. Good on you for exploring and finding a new jem. I hope no one finds it as well, unless they put the effort into looking for it themselves. Great pictures, sure looks like it was cold out, and lots of snow in those mountains already. Hope you guys brought some fireball to keep ya warm.
  22. Now that looks like it could be a bit of fun.
  23. What is the purpose of reputatation? Seems like someone who holds gruge or simply has nothing better to do could go and click on red arrows all day. Do you get a timeout when you get to -(insert number)?
  24. That sounds suspect at best. Not like an "officer" to not state his name and leave contact information such as a file number and how to contact them. It will be interesting to see where this goes. When this issue cme up earlier this year I tweeted Nenshi, and within two days a city employee contacted me and said it would be dealt with. A week later there was the post saying the chain was down, so I thought that was the end of it. Doesn't seem that way now.
